Chapter 19

1994 Words
Raquelle lay on her bed reading one of the spell books the twins had gotten her. Her mother would freak out if she found out but she was way passed caring about that. She was determined to harness and grow her powers and if her mom wasn't going to help her, she was glad she had friends who would. She had already learned a bunch of basic spells. The twins had told her she had learnt them pretty quickly. A lot faster than most witches learnt them. With all that though, she was having a hard time getting through the book. Her mind kept going back to Drake and her new found knowledge on mates. It had been two days since their party and she hadn't seen him since. Not because he was busy or anything but because she felt like she needed space. At the party, everything had seemed all peppy and great and she was just excited that her crush would be hers forever but then she had woken up the next morning and it all dawned on her. It wasn't as if she didn't want to be his mate, it just seemed so intense to her. The two days that she had spent away from him had been the hardest two days of her life and it scared her. It felt like she was away from the other half of her soul... literally and other than the emotional pain she felt, it also physically exhausted her to be away from him. She wondered how he must be feeling if she, who wasn't even a werewolf was feeling this way. In that second, she already made the decision to reach out to him. He had been exceptionally kind when she asked him for space to be able to properly process everything. She hadn't even stopped to think about how everything would affect him. She felt bad. If there was an exam on being a good mate, she was already failing it. She was determined to make things better. On instinct, she reached out to her phone to call him when she remembered that one of the stuff that came with being mates was telepathic communication. She decided to try that instead. She wasn't sure how it worked so she just let her instincts take over and reached out to him. “Drake?" she called out tentatively. She could feel the surprise emanating from him. “Raquelle", he answered, his voice as clear as day. “This is so weird. I'm hearing you in my head. I'm speaking to you in my head. Am I going crazy? I feel like I'm going crazy", She rambled on. “Relax babe, you're not going crazy. This is really happening. We're communicating telepathically. And honestly, considering the fact that you're a witch with magical powers, this shouldn't be the weirdest thing you've ever done", Drake said calmly, his voice sounding teasing. Raquelle chuckled. “Yeah I guess you're right. So, how are you? How have you been these last few days?". “All well and good considering my mate told me she needed space from me". That stung but she felt like she deserved it. After all, she really wasn't thinking about how he'd feel when she told him that. “Raquelle baby, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said that", Drake apologized when he felt the sting of hurt his words gave her. “No no you're right. I was being selfish and I should have thought about how you'd feel when I asked for space. I'm sorry". “No. You don't need to apologize. This is all so new to you. You spent the majority of your life thinking you were normal and now your life is just one big fantasy novel from the werewolves, to the magic and to now being mates. And you've been so strong, accepting all of it with ease. It's normal for you to want some time to yourself. I admit, it hurt when you told me you wanted time to yourself but I get it". Raquelle couldn't help but smile. “Drake Hart, you are quite the charmer". “Only for you Raquelle Myers. Only for you". “Hey Drake, how do I hang up on this thing?" she asked him out of the blue. “Hang up on the telepathic mind control? You wanna hang up? Why?" he asked, sounding confused. “Just trust me", she said. “Okay fine. Well it's not rocket science. The opposite of the way you reached me. You just feel yourself leaving my head". “Thanks Drake. And I promise, it'll be fine. Just trust me. I can feel your confusion pouring out in waves". “I'll try to reign it in. I trust you". And just like he taught her, she ended their communication. When they were talking, she realized how much she missed him and wanted to see him. She didn't want him to get a whiff of her idea because if it worked, she planned to surprise him which was why she decided to end the telepathic communication. Raquelle remembered a spell she had come across when she was reading the spell book. It was a spell for teleportation. The twins hadn't taught it to her yet but the instructions were in the book and they looked easy enough for her to follow. She opened the book and flipped around until she found the page. All it said was that she'd have to really focus on where she wanted to go and say the words of the spell. “Seems easy enough", she said to herself, crossing her fingers that it would go well. She pictured the inside of Drake's room, making sure to paint a vivid image in her head. She wouldn't want to accidentally transport herself to someone else's room. That would be hard to explain. Concentrating, she drew out her powers and said the spell and in the blink of an eye, she felt herself moving through space at ultra speed. The next thing she knew is she found herself in Drake's room looking at a shocked Drake with his jaw on the floor. Raquelle felt a little dizzy and disoriented but she managed to get her bearings pretty quickly. She couldn't help but feel proud of herself. She got that spell on her first try. She was a natural at being a witch. She couldn't believe she had lived her most of her life as a boring human. She couldn't imagine living life any other way now. The look on Drake's face was priceless. She took out her phone from her pocket and took a quick picture. That seemed to sober him up pretty quickly. “What the hell just happened?" he asked, sounding dumbfounded. Raquelle just laughed and ran to embrace him. At first, he didn't hug her back because he was still in shock but eventually it began to wear off because he tentatively wrapped his arms around her. In that moment, it suddenly felt like all was right with the world. Nothing else mattered, except the two of them in each other's arms. Everything was perfect. Eventually, they pulled back. “I'm sorry for showing up out of the blue but I just...I just really needed to see you", Raquelle explained. Drake took her hand in his and placed a soft, delicate kiss on the back, then he pulled her and lead her to his bed so they could both sit. “You don't have to apologize. This was a really nice surprise. I'd missed you too. A lot more than I should be admitting actually. I didn't know you knew how to teleport though. I don't know much about witch magic but I do know that teleportation is some next level stuff". “Actually, I didn't know I could teleport either. All I know was how much I missed you and then I came across the spell and I just did it and on my first try too". Raquelle couldn't help but let the pride seep into her voice. “My baby girl is so talented", Drake said, smiling at her lovingly. He planted a kiss on her forehead and used that chance to breath in the comforting smell of her scent. “You know I was thinking, if I could teleport in here easily, Esmeralda probably could too. We should think about putting up some sort of barrier to prevent that from happening", she mentioned. “Actually, there is a barrier. One that's been protecting us from her for years. I think the only reason you could go through it is because of our mate bond. No barrier is strong enough to keep us apart". “Awww, that would be so cheesy if it wasn't true", Raquelle teased, laughing. Just then the door opened and Mason popped in. I beamed on seeing him. “I thought I was crazy when I heard your voice", he said. “Oh hi Mason", I greeted. He looked pleasantly surprised to see me. “Hey Raquelle. I feel like I haven't seen you in forever. When did you get here? I didn't hear the front door open", he said, a big smile on his face. “That's because I didn't come through the front door. I teleported here", I said sounding smug. “That is so cool", he said, “I wish I could teleport. Then I wouldn't need Drake or Violet to drive me places. I'd just appear wherever I wanted". Raquelle giggled. “Well I'd be happy to teleport with you whenever you want. As soon as I know how to do that". “I'm glad to see you here Raquelle. Maybe now Drake can stop moping around the house". Raquelle gasped then turned to Drake. “I was not moping around the house", Drake said. Mason turned to me with a conspiring look, lowering his voice to a fake whisper. “He really was. It was getting depressing. I swear this one time I heard him say your name in his sleep". “Aww", Raquelle cooed, feeling a little guilty because she knew why he would have been acting that way. “Well don't worry Mace, he isn't going to be all mopy anymore". “Mason was there anything in particular you wanted?" Drake asked his brother in a fake annoyed tone. “Nothing really, although I don't mind hanging out with Raquelle a little more now that I'm sure she's here". “Get out Mason", Drake said throwing a pillow at his brother, which he swiftly dodged. “Don't worry Mason. I'll be here a while. We're definitely going to hang before I have to go back", Raquelle assured him. “Sounds like a date", he said winking at Raquelle before leaving the room. That had her laughing her ass off. He was so adorable. Drake just rolled his eyes at his brother's behavior. “It's not a date", he yelled, knowing Mason would hear him. Raquelle giggled. “I swear that boy loves you more than he loves me", Drake said, shaking his head. “It's okay. I love him more than I love you too", Raquelle said with a straight face, glancing at her mate to see his reaction. “That is not funny", he said before she burst out laughing again. “It was", Raquelle said, “you should have seen your face". Drake rolled his eyes and threw a pillow at her, causing her to stop laughing abruptly. “Oh you are so gonna regret that", she said before grabbing another pillow and hitting him with it. “It is on Raquelle", Drake said as their pillow fight started. They laughed and played and somehow they found themselves lying flat on his bed with Drake hovering above her. They stared at each other intensely before Drake moved to kiss her. All was right in their world.
