Chapter 21

Drake and Raquelle walked hand in hand in school together. They had become some sort of power couple and seeing them together no longer caused a stir between the students but that didn't mean people still didn't turn and stare whenever they walked. They were pretty close to them but ever since discovering they were mates, they were a lot closer and even though the humans at school didn't know that, they could also sense the closeness. Of course, another reason for their stares could also be because people couldn't get enough of Drake's eyes. He had taken to wearing his shades a whole lot less and unsurprisingly, his silver eyes took a lot of people by surprise. He didn't care though. They could think whatever they wanted but as long as he had Raquelle by his side, he was way past caring. Raquelle as well drew a lot of comfort from him. At first, the stares made her uncomfortable. She wasn't a fan of the attention and she almost wanted to shrink into a ball of herself but Drake always had a way of making her feel calm and protected. Plus he was used to getting negative attention from the school so he knew how to deflect it pretty easily. They were a little early and class wasn't starting for another ten minutes so they walked into the first empty classroom they saw to chill before they had to leave. “So...", Drake began, trying to sound casual. Raquelle narrowed her eyes at him. “So what?" “This is going to sound really crazy but I need you to not freak out", he said taking her hands in his and giving her pleading looks. “Now I am freaking out. What's going on?" Raquelle asked, sounding very suspicious. “Nothing's going on. It's just..." he started but couldn't finish. Raquelle took her hands from his so she could fold her arms across her chest. “It's just what Drake?" she asked, her eyes narrowed in suspicion. “I want to you to come with me to see the pack... I... I want you to meet my grandparents", he said, carefully watching to see her reaction. Her face was blank and devoid of any emotion. “Raquelle, did you hear me?" Oh she heard him alright. She heard him loud and clear but she was still in shock. She wasn't sure if she was quite ready for meet the parents yet even though it wasn't technically parents. They had just started dating. Were they even dating? He technically didn't ask her to be his girlfriend but they're mates which is a much stronger bond than boyfriend-girlfriend. But since he had met her mom, it was only right she met his but she never introduced him to her mom as her significant other. Okay wow Drake was right, she was freaking out. “Raquelle, Raquelle. Calm down", Drake said bringing her out of her thoughts. “We don't have to go today. I was just letting it out there. We can go whenever you're ready. I just wanted you to know it's something I'd been thinking about", he said gently. Without thinking she wrapped her arms around him in a warm hug. It took him by surprise but he hugged her back. “Thank you", Raquelle said. Drake chuckled, a bit confused. “What am I getting thanked for?" “For being the most understanding person in the whole universe", she replied. She wasn't sure he'd ever have any idea how grateful she was that he didn't pressure her or force her into making huge steps. He understood that this was a whole new world for her and he agreed to let her go at the pace that was comfortable for her even though they might be too slow for him. She didn't know that much about werewolves but she had been talking to Violet and Joanne and even Mason and she had been learning a lot. She knew how huge of a deal the mate bond was and she felt a lot guilty that she wasn't taking it as he'd hoped but Drake never felt that way. He was perfectly happy taking things slow for her. She pulled back from the hug only to kiss him. He kissed her back, just as passionately and they were already slipping into that little bubble of theirs but the bell rang and they were pulled back into the real world. “We should head to class", Drake said placing one final peck on her lips. “Ugh", Raquelle groaned, “I'd really much rather be here in this moment". She then proceeded to clasp her arms around his neck. Drake laughed, his hands easily going around her waist. “Well this class is about to get filled up any second now and I don't know about you but I think it would be really embarrassing if we were caught in this position". “Since when did you care what people thought?" she asked him, pouting. Drake laughed. “You will be the end of me Luna", he said. His brain paused. He had never called her that before nor had he ever consciously thought of her as his Luna before but the name just came naturally because at the end of the day, she was his mate and his Luna. She, having heard that train of thought, turned an adorable shade of pink. He smiled at how cute she was. He sighed then. They really had to leave. Using all of his power of restraint, he pulled back. “Come on Raven. We've gotta go", he said taking her hand and his bag as he lead them out the door. “I have never understood why you call me Raven", Raquelle mentioned on their way to class. Drake shrugged. “Because you have Raven colored hair". “So I'm assuming you call me Hazel because of my eyes then?" “I knew you were a smart one", he teased. She playfully hit his back. ********* Hours later, it was time for lunch. Raquelle had texted Drake that she wouldn't be sitting with him. She had been accosted by Diane who accused her of ditching them for Drake. Of course she couldn't exactly say anything in her defense because it was a little true so she decided she'd do a little damage control by sitting with them at lunch. She invited Drake but he said he'd much rather pull out his own hair. And he had such gorgeous hair. One of her favorite pastimes was running her fingers through his curls and she'd hate for him to pull them out. Raquelle carried her tray and made her way to their table. “Hey guys", she greeted in her most cheerful voice, “mind if I sit?" “Well well well, if it isn't Westwood's royalty, come to dine with the peasants?" Mike teased. Raquelle rolled her eyes at his antics. “Of course you can sit Raquelle. Pay no attention to Mike", Mia said, a smile on her face. “Thanks M", she said as she plopped down beside her. Diane simply just smirked at her. “So how have you been? It's certainly been a while", David commented. “You've certainly been settling in nicely", Diane said, “so you guys are officially a thing now?" Raquelle paused with a mouthful of sandwich in her mouth. After her mini breakdown that morning, she thought that question would be harder to answer but it was as easy as breathing. Swallowing first, she smiled when she answered with all confidence. “Yeah. We are". “Okay wow, somebody's all smiles. Raquelle has definitely fallen head over heels. I still can't believe it", Mike said. “What exactly can't you believe Mike?" Mia asked, her eyebrows raised. Raquelle was taken aback by that and she realized she may have stayed away for longer than she thought because the last thing she remembered was that Mia had a huge crush on Mike and was constantly timid about it and she never countered him as fiercely as she did now. She wondered what changed. “Oh yeah. She did have a crush on Mike but then she found out he had screwed more than his fair share of girls in the school and she finally decided to let go because she deserved better", Drake's voice answered in her head. “How do you know all this?" she asked. “When you have enhanced hearing you pick up on a lot of school gossip", he answered. He had a point there. Raquelle quickly shut him out so her friends wouldn't see her distracted. “We all judged Drake without getting to know him and that's something Raquelle didn't do and now they're literally the cutest couple at this school", Mia said matter of factly. “Hey!!" Diane and David whined. “No offense guys", she said. “Am I missing something?" Raquelle thought. Last she remembered, Diane and David were just best friends. “They started dating a while ago", Drake answered in her head. “You sure know a lot of school gossip", Raquelle replied. “When you have no friends and no one to talk to, you make a habit out of listening in. Plus I have really good memory". Raquelle chuckled. “So Diane and David are a couple. I totally ship". “Aww thanks Raquelle", David said making her realize she had said that out loud instead of in her head like she had planned. “Uh, you're welcome", she replied, “you guys look really cute together". “Thanks", Diane said as she took David's hand in hers. “So when did you guys finally get together? Tell me everything I've missed". “Well it all started....." A while later, lunch ended and they had to go to class. She had a fun time with them and she realized she missed them. She had just been so busy with learning her powers and with Drake that she just hasn't factored them into the equation. She was going to do better at that. She wasn't going to neglect her friends. They were the first people to be nice to her and she had to do a better job of being their friend. If she could get Drake to hang with them, it would be a lot easier. That was her new mission. It would be hard but not impossible. Making up her mind, she decided to focus on what was being taught in class. Time passed quickly and just like that, it was the last class of the day, the one she shared with Drake. She took her seat beside him, flashing him a big smile. “Someone looks happy to see me", Drake teased. “I am happy to see you. It's been a really long day", Raquelle admitted. “I'm a lot happier to see you Luna", he said taking her hand in his and kissing the back. Just then, the teacher walked in. “Damn, we really can't catch a break today, can we?" Raquelle groaned. Drake just laughed quietly. The class began and Drake tuned in, pretty focused. Raquelle on the other hand kept thinking about what Drake said this morning. She kept thinking it was too soon in a normal relationship for her to meet his grandparents but this wasn't a normal relationship and if she was being honest with herself, she liked that it wasn't and she wouldn't want it to be a normal relationship. And she had to admit to herself, it would be cool to meet more werewolves and maybe learn more about them. Although she was still nervous about meeting his grandparents though because she was scared they wouldn't approve of her. She was sure if they had a chance to pick a mate for their grandson, they wouldn't have picked her. They would have picked a werewolf and a strong one too. The idea of that made goosebumps appear on her skin. The thought of Drake with another mate sickened her. The bell rang, signalling the end of class and Raquelle couldn't believe she had spent the whole of class lost in thought. She also couldn't believe Drake hadn't interrupted those thoughts. Ever since their telepathic communication started, he was almost always in her head. She found it nice and adorable and sometimes a little annoying. He must have been really focused on the class or she was getting better at blocking him out. They walked to his car together and were about to get in when she stopped him. “Hey Drake, when are you going to visit the pack next?" she asked. “Today, after I drop you off at home and pick up Mason. Why?" “I wanna come with you", she announced. Drake's face lit up in pleasant surprise. “Are you sure? You know you don't have to do this, we can go an—" She shut him up with a kiss. “I know Drake but I want to go today. Will you please take me with you?" He smiled at her. “Let's go".
