“Amy?” I hear someone softly trying to wake my mate, and I am instantly alert. Normally this means one of the pups has taken ill, but this voice sounds older than a pup. Nor did this someone call her mom. Must be one of her sisters then.
“Mmmph?” I hear my mate respond quietly, apparently having awoken from a sound sleep. “Jan? What’s the matter, dearest?”
“Is it usual for male wolves to be violent towards their mate?” Jan whispers, sounding very distressed. Crap, this late night visit probably means that something went horribly wrong!
