Chapter 4
“What are you doing?” Rick asked the next morning, when he came into the living room.
“Packing up what I want to take with me, if things go as planned tonight.”
“I…see.” Rick hesitated, then went into the kitchen. “Mind if I fix something to eat?”
“Be my guest.”
“Have you eaten?”
“Nope.”
“I can make us omelets.”
Beau glanced at him, nodding. “Sure.”
Rick did, using some of the cheese he found in the fridge, as well as an over-ripe tomato. When they were ready, he put them on plates, taking them to the table. By then, Beau had all his books packed in a box. “No coffee,” he asked with a brief smile.
“Sorry. I’ll fix it. Are you taking the coffeemaker?”
“Depends if I have room. If not,” Beau shrugged.
When the coffee was ready, Rick filled two cups, bringing them to the
