SLY’S POV
I searched everywhere looking for Xander but couldn't find him. No one knew where he was. Ever since Dalia left, we have both been a mess, and we have barely managed to do the things we needed to do, and this is one of those moments that we needed to do our job, but I couldn't find him.
Some alphas were coming over for a meeting, and even though they needed our help and not the other way around, we still needed to respect them because they were senior alphas. And we needed to be as calm as possible before the meeting because talking with those alphas can be very infuriating with their old thinking.
Walking down the long hall, wondering where Xander could be, I suddenly thought of one place. I changed the course of my movements and walked left towards the room.
I pushed the door open slowly, and just as I had suspected, Xander was in the room with his back to the door. He didn't bother to turn around because he must already know that it was me.
“I didn't know you were this emotional person. What has Dalia done to my twin?" I teased Xander, hoping to get a smile from him.
The room he was standing in was the room we had prepared for when we found our mate. The bed was a king-sized bed that can contain 3 people, and apart from the shelves and chair, there was nothing else in the room because we wanted our mate to be comfortable and decide what she wanted the room to look like. After we met Dalia, we thought we had gotten close to finally using this room, but that dream died as soon as it started.
“It's been a long time since we prepared this room. We have been looking for our mate since we turned seventeen, and we finally found her, but we can't have her. She doesn't want us. Do you think we will ever get to use this room?” he asked. His voice was thick with emotions.
“We will get to use it. I have a strong feeling that Dalia will come back, and if she doesn't, we will go to her ourselves. We will do everything we can to get her to love and want us.
Mum has never given us wrong advice, so I know for a fact that mum telling us to give her space for like a week to see if she returns on her own is her doing what she thinks is best for us. If she returns, then we will at least know that the mate bond has a little hold on her, and she likes us, albeit small, and then we can do our best to make her love us.” I said to him.
Xander shot me a look. “Why are you consoling me like you are not in the same situation as me? I know you have barely eaten since she left, and you have come here too to hide and cry.”
“I don't cry! I am not doing this because I am doing better than you, but because we can't be down at the same time. One person has to console the other person; that way we can both stay strong,” I replied.
“Sorry for my outburst; my emotions have just been everywhere these past days,” he apologized.
“It's okay. We need to go; the alphas will be here any minute now for the meeting.” I said to him.
Xander hissed. “I really wish not to meet those Alphas; I know they are going to piss me off, and my patience is already wearing thin, so any little thing will just nudge me over the edge.”
"I don't want to have the meeting either, but we have to do what we have to do. We will hear them out and know if we can help them. Hopefully we don't kill them while at it." I said to him.
The pain I and Sly felt had us almost crying after Dalia left. The last couple of days weren't great; actually, scratch that because it's an understatement. The last couple of days have been hell.
It has been so hard, but we still had to do our duties. Like our mom would always say, “Alphas cannot abandon their duties.”
We got to the office, and our Gamma had already ushered in the Alpha's that we had a meeting with.
“Good morning, Alpha's, and sorry we are a bit late; we had a little something to take care of.” I apologized to them. Mostly out of courtesy, because they needed our help and they could wait for it. Well, if the need be.
They both nodded.
“Will your mother be joining us?” One of them asked.
I glanced at the one that asked, “No! Is there a reason why she needs to be here for this meeting?” I asked.
He shared a look with the other Alpha he was with before he replied. “No, there is no problem. We can go ahead with the meeting,” he replied.
Xander hadn't said a word to them; he was probably trying to hold back his anger and not shred them into pieces.
We proceeded with the meeting and spent a few hours discussing what they were here for.
“What you need from us is something we can do for you; it's the business we run, and to get our services, you need to pay for it. Either you pay monetarily or by giving us something of value in exchange.” I said to them for the millionth time.
“Exactly! And we have already told you that we wish to pay for something of value, which is not money but our daughters. You both haven't found your mates yet, and we are offering our daughter's to you in exchange for the deal.” One of the Alphas said.
“I do not care about how you choose to treat your daughters, but here we do not use women as exchange tools. You are standing on thin ice now, and I think it's time for you to leave.” I said to them,
“Don't you dare talk to me in that way, pup. I became an alpha way before you were even born. If it was not that your father died and allowed a woman to train you boys and run her pack, we wouldn't be having this meeting with you. I think it's time your mother joined this meeting,” one of the alphas said rudely.
“This is why I wanted their mother to be in this meeting with us, or better yet, meet with her without these two in attendance. She is not that good either, but she is better than his two,” the other one said.
“You better watch what you say or believe me when I say that you will not leave here with your heads intact. I dare you to insult my mother one more f*****g and see how you end up in a field dead and vultures eating your flesh.” Xander said with fury in his eyes.
“You both should leave now!” I growled at them.
“Get me your mother; we are not leaving until we see her! You can't threaten us pups!” one of the alphas said.
That seemed to infuriate Xander even more; he raised the table in front of him and threw it to the side and took menacing steps towards the alpha. The alpha's eyes widened in surprise as he saw Xander’s eyes change to his wolf's color.
But before he could make any move, Xander held him by the throat and lifted him into the air. His eyes were already turning white while the other alpha was standing by his side, begging, but Xander paid him no heed. I sat comfortably on my chair, not caring what Xander did, because the Alpha was getting what he deserved.
The door to the office opened forcefully. “Stop that right now!” our mom shouted.
“Mum! He insulted us and went ahead to insult you and also our mate. How dare he!” Xander replied.
“Sly, how could you be here watching this and doing nothing?" My mom yelled at me.
“Mum, he deserves it.” I replied.
“Let him go right now!” My mom ordered him.
"No, I won't! I will kill him for disrespecting us.” Xander blatantly refused, and I supported him.
“So would you rather the first thing your mate sees upon returning to be the body of a man you killed? Do you want to see her smelling like blood?” Our mother asked.
Xander immediately dropped the man, and I stood up from my chair in surprise.
