Tate POV
I should have known from the moment we found our mate that my brothers would try to interfere with my alone time with her. Their lack of trust infuriated me. I wouldn't harm her, but I couldn't just sit back and watch her run away. I could sense that she felt the bond between us, I saw it in her eyes. Maybe she didn't fully comprehend that she was our mate, but she definitely felt the connection. Her personality revealed it too - she wouldn't have stayed this long if she didn't feel it.
Leaving the hotel, I could feel my restless wolf, Hiro, yearning for his mate. He couldn't even touch her or be with her, and it was driving him insane. "Tate, come back," Dean's voice echoed in my mind through our link, but I blocked him out. I blocked everyone out. They wanted me to calm down, so that's what I was doing.
As I continued walking, her scent grew stronger. Whatever she used to mask it was slowly fading. It was the scent of our mate mixed with the scent of a human. I desired her, but at the same time, I worried. We were not just shifters but also lived like immortals. We would outlive her. Maybe we could try to turn her using our vampire nature, but that was something we couldn't force. She would have to accept it willingly.
I kept my distance but eventually caught onto her path towards the club. What were Dean and Cade thinking? Did they really just let her leave? Sure, Cade got her a room, but I didn't trust that she wouldn't just disappear. I followed her all the way to the club. Although it would be closing in about fifteen minutes, the place was still packed. So much for her avoiding the crowd. People stood outside now that the storm had calmed down.
I watched as she pushed through the crowd, several people trying to stop her, including two guys. She managed to make her way through and disappeared for a few moments, only to reappear in what looked like a bikini top and short shorts, showcasing her perfect body. It only served to upset me even more.
And then, finally, a tall and menacing werewolf male stopped her in her tracks. I stayed back, my eyes fixated on the scene unfolding before me. "You really have a thing for me tonight, huh?" she said to him, her voice laced with a hint of amusement.
"I just want my money's worth," he replied, his voice dripping with arrogance. Hiro growled in my head, his frustration mirroring my own, but I resisted the urge to intervene. I wanted to see what she would do.
With a surprising display of strength, she grabbed his collar and pulled him along with her. "One drink, one dance," she demanded, her determination evident in her gaze.
"Stop her," Hero snapped, but I hesitated, my curiosity getting the better of me. The thumping music filled the air as they disappeared into the club.
Some single she-wolves noticed my presence and approached me. Their enticing offers fell on deaf ears as my attention remained fixed on Calista, who seemed oblivious to everything around her. "You three left so early on your birthday. Come have a little fun with us before the club closes," one of the she-wolves seductively suggested.
"Dance then," I replied, pulling her onto the dance floor while keeping a small distance. Her excitement was palpable, thinking she had been chosen, but my focus remained on Calista.
The werewolf's hands roamed freely over her body as she moved to the rhythm of the music, causing a surge of anger to course through my veins.
"What's up with that girl? She's nothing special," the she-wolf dancing with me sneered. Ignoring her comment, I continued to sway to the music, my eyes locked on Calista.
"She's perfect," I murmured under my breath, unable to tear my gaze away as the werewolf's touch fueled my jealousy.
Unable to bear it any longer, I broke away from the she-wolf, causing her to protest, and made my way towards Calista. Placing my hand firmly on her back, I growled, "f**k OFF," to the male clinging to her. Calista turned to look at me, her expression a mix of shock and confusion. Thankfully, the werewolf knew his place and left without a word.
"You want to dance? Then it's with me," I asserted, my voice filled with possessiveness.
"You could have just asked instead of making a scene, sheesh," she retorted, her voice tinged with annoyance.
"Dance with me," I demanded, pulling her closer to my body. As the music enveloped us, her movements against me were hypnotizing, captivating my senses.
"Did you follow me here?" she inquired, her voice filled with curiosity.
"Yes," I admitted, unable to deny the truth. Pulling her even tighter against me, I whispered, "I have a condition to add to my brother's job for you."
Intrigued, she asked, "And what's that?" as we continued to dance, lost in the intoxicating rhythm.
"You aren't allowed to let another male touch you, Calista, for this week, you're ours," I growled against her, my voice low and menacing. Her scent, a mix of vanilla and lavender, filled my nostrils, adding to the intensity of the moment.
"I won't sell myself," she said defiantly. As I gripped her body, the smoothness of her skin sent a shiver down my spine.
"Looks like you just did for a drink," I murmured against her, my words barely audible. I moved my hands up her body, my touch firm and possessive, but she stopped me with a sudden strength.
"Are you jealous, wolf? We hardly know each other, yet me dancing with another wolf seems to have you all worked up," she taunted, her voice filled with a mix of curiosity and defiance. She moved my hand against her, her warmth and softness pressing against my fingertips.
"What is it you really want from me? Is it what everyone else wants?" she questioned, her voice filled with a mix of vulnerability and defiance. As she slid my hand down her body, the electric current of our bond sparked through my fingertips.
"I mean, you can't deny what I'm asking, wolf. I can feel your arousal against me, but I'm off-limits. So have your fun right now because this is the last time you will ever be touching me," she declared.
Hero, my wolf, pushed forward, fighting fiercely within me as I turned her in my arms so we were facing each other.
"You say that now. You say this is the last. You say we have only one week. But soon, you will be begging us to touch you, Calista. You want us, you just refuse to speak the truth," I said, my voice dripping with desire. I leaned in, dangerously close to kissing her, the anticipation electrifying the air around us.
"Your eyes, come with me," she abruptly stopped me, catching me off guard. With surprising strength, she yanked me away, guiding me through a set of doors.
We entered a rundown office, the musty smell of old furniture and dampness filling the air. A worn-out couch sat in the corner, surrounded by piles of bikinis, shirts, and shorts. Was this where she was living?
"Your brother, he told me when your eyes are like that, your wolf is fighting you. So take a moment and get a hold of yourself," she said, her voice filled with concern. The touch of her hand on my arm sent a comforting warmth through my body.
Did she really bring me back here to help me? This right here was proof that she cared, that she felt it. The mate bond between us was undeniable.
"Go figure they would warn you," I huffed, the frustration evident in my voice, as she opened a small mini fridge. The hum of the refrigerator filled the air as she handed me a chilled bottle of water.
"Sit, chill," she said, her voice calm and soothing. I could feel the condensation on the bottle as I took a seat.
"That wolf I was dancing with, if you had waited just a few seconds more, you would have been very entertained," she chuckled. "I was planning on making sure he could not sit for a few weeks, maybe more."
"I don't let anyone touch me. I can handle myself, so you don't need to go rescuing me," she stated firmly. Her words hung in the air, the sense of her independence palpable.
"I wasn't rescuing you. I just wanted to dance with you, that's all," I clarified. Her doubt was apparent in her response.
"I don't believe that," she retorted. Her skepticism was laced with a hint of amusement.
"You aren't afraid of me?" I questioned, genuinely curious. Her laughter filled the room
"Should I be? I mean, your brothers warned me and even told me to keep my distance when your eyes, well, they are the way they are now. But I'm not afraid. I can handle you if something happened. I'll stop you from doing anything stupid," she assured me. Her confidence resonated in her words.
"Does it hurt?" she asked, her voice tinged with concern. "Does fighting your wolf hurt?"
"No, I just get easily unsettled. He is calming down now," I explained. The tension in my body slowly dissipated.
"So, care to tell me why he is getting set off with me?" she inquired. I studied her carefully, sensing her genuine curiosity.
"He wants you," I confessed. Her reaction was immediate.
"Well, no s**t! Why? We are strangers," she laughed, her voice filled with disbelief.
"You're our mate," I revealed, causing her to freeze. I knew Dean and Cade would not be pleased with my choice of telling her.
"MATE!" she snapped loudly. "No, no, nope, that can't be. No, I can't be your mate. I'm not your kind," she stammered, her voice filled with panic.
"Yet you feel it," I said softly, trying to reassure her. "We are strangers, yet based on what others said about you at the club, in the time you have been here, you turn everyone down. Yet you went with us. Sure, the crowd was an excuse, but you keep coming back to us. You feel something towards me and my brothers."
"Brothers? Wait, what are you getting at?" she asked, her confusion evident.
"Our mate, Calista. Mine, Dean's, and Cade's," I explained.
"All three of you?" she practically yelled, her voice filled with disbelief.
"Yes, we're triplets. It's normal for us to share a mate," I clarified.
"My life couldn't get any worse," she muttered, the frustration evident in her voice.
"You three...you don't want me. Nor does this change anything for me. In one week, I'm leaving," she declared, her resolve unyielding. But deep within me, Hero growled, sensing her resistance.
"Ya, you keep saying that, but I don't think you will," I countered, a hint of certainty in my voice.
"Why is that?" she asked, her voice laced with curiosity.
"Because you want us. Sure, you felt my arousal, but I smelled yours," I revealed, a mischievous smirk forming on my face.
"Gross," she responded. I couldn't help but laugh.
"Pack your s**t. I'm taking you with me," I declared, determined to show her that she belonged with us.
"You really think I'm coming now that you told me that?" she asked, her voice filled with skepticism.
"Yes, I do," I replied. "If you don't, I'll just be carrying you out with me. Best not to make a scene, right?"
"I'd like to see you try," she countered, a hint of challenge in her tone.
"Don't tempt me," I warned. "I'm not like my brothers. I take what I want, Calista. I wouldn't toy with me unless you want me."
She shoved her belongings into a small bag, the sound of zippers and fabric rustling filling the air. "Packed," she declared, throwing her bag at me. "Might as well make use of you," she added with a hint of amusement.
I shook my head, but she wasn't fighting me on coming anymore. I decided to let her win.
We left the club, the distant sound of music fading away as we walked. I followed her closely, aware that I had caused enough trouble for the night.
The walk was silent, the only sounds being our footsteps on the pavement. As we approached the hotel, I noticed both Cade and Dean waiting outside. The sight of me alone with Calista set them off. Dean growled at me, his displeasure evident.
"I see you got Tate to carry your stuff," Cade remarked, his voice filled with slight annoyance.
"Yeah, put him to work," she teased, a playful lilt in her voice.
"Don't worry, he was a good horn dog. Now, if you all don't mind, I'm going to bed," she announced, taking her bag from me and effortlessly walking into the hotel.
I went to follow her, but Cade grabbed hold of my shirt, his grip firm. "Not so fast," he snarled.
"I'm tired. I'm going to bed," I growled, my fatigue evident. Cade let go, clearly pissed off.
"Oh yeah, I told her she was our mate," I said as the heavy door to the hotel closed behind me, leaving my brothers outside.
