Cade POV The hotel, was nestled just outside the small town. It sat between the school we were attending and the club we had just left. Opting for privacy, we had rented out the largest suite instead of settling for dorm rooms. The school's policy prevented siblings from rooming together, but my brothers and I had always shared a room since childhood. Enrolled in two classes, the three of us had already completed our schooling near home. However, our father had sent us here to keep a watchful eye on the area. We were aware that a malevolent demon was plotting to disrupt the peace, and we were determined to take every possible action to thwart its plans. The demon named Phelan, has been gathering ingredients to unleash a witch that should remain locked away. His home, known as the undercity, was exactly as its name implied - a city beneath a city. It teemed with dark creatures, but we had reached a tenuous peace agreement, allowing Phelan to operate undisturbed as long as he didn't cause trouble outside his domain. Although we suspected Phelan's sinister plans, we hadn't linked any of the recent disturbances outside the undercity to him. Consequently, we lacked grounds to break the delicate peace we held. However, we were certain that he had enlisted others to carry out his bidding in secret. To free the witch, we had discovered that three ingredients were required - a Phoenix's Blood, a unicorn's tears, and a dark siren's lullaby. Phelan had already acquired two out of the three; he just needed to find a dark siren, a being believed to be extinct. Yet, there had been reports of disruptions in small towns lately - demons lurking and their allies aiding them. Some even claimed to have heard a captivating song, capable of entrancing its listeners. This led us to question the existence of the dark siren. The most recent report came from this very town, where someone had briefly heard a lullaby drifting through the night. It was now our duty, mine and my brothers', to uncover the truth and, if we encountered this siren, to capture and protect her from falling into the clutches of the demons. Dark sirens were known to be dangerous, as their voices alone were considered one of the most powerful weapons. In ancient texts, they were depicted as monsters, even more treacherous than demons, yet capable of easily deceiving with their enchanting beauty. It was said that no man could resist their charm. As I pulled the car into the hotel's parking lot, the scent of fresh rain permeated the air. I shifted the car into park. I looked back at my brothers, the dim streetlights casting a soft glow on their faces. "Dean, how about you show Calista to our room, maybe see if any place has late-night food delivery? Tate, stay out here with me for a moment,” I ordered. Tate grumbled in annoyance, his low growl filling the air, but he didn't resist as Dean helped Calista out of the car. She followed him. "Trying to keep me from her, I see. Dean gets her alone, you get her alone, but of course, you two will refuse, I get her alone," Tate muttered angrily. I let out a weary sigh, trying to calm the tension. "I simply want to talk. I understand that you want to be around her, we all do right now. I'm lucky she even agreed to come, and for that, I need to make sure you don't mess things up," I explained. "Gee, thanks," Tate replied sarcastically, his frustration evident in his voice. "She is skittish," I continued, my voice tinged with concern. "She puts on a tough act, but I saw through it. I can tell she's afraid. It's not about us, but something out there that's causing her fear. I asked if she was in trouble, and she denied it, but I could sense she was lying." "She's different, Tate, and if we aren't careful with how we handle her, she will run. And if she does, I don't think we'll ever find her again," I warned him. He leaned against my car, the cool metal pressing against his back. "Does she at least sense the bond we all have?" he asked, his voice filled with uncertainty. "I think she does, but it's hard to tell. But I don't think we'll win her over just because she's our mate. We're going to have to take this slow. The first step is being a friend to her, someone she can talk to. I think her coming with us tonight is a big step for her, so I need you to keep your cool. I know out of the three of us, that's hard for you, but you have to restrain yourself. No more grabbing her or trying to make advances. Understood?" I said firmly. "Yeah, I understand," Tate replied, his voice subdued. "I wasn't going to anyways," he added quietly. I did not enjoy the feeling of coming off as a boss to my brothers, but someone had to keep them in line. Tate, in particular, did not always use his brain. Another issue was his extreme possessiveness. When something is his, he refuses to let go and becomes very angry when anyone tries to take it. I'm sure the same will go for our Mate. Out of the three of us, he has been hurting the most since for her. He has disappeared more than once for weeks at a time on a mission to find her. Now that she is here in our hotel room, I worry he may move too fast, and I know for a fact that will not go over well. Once we entered our room, Tate immediately went in, and we found Dean sitting on the couch with the TV on. "Where is she?" Tate asked. "She's in the bathroom. She asked if she could use the shower. I don't think I've ever seen someone so excited over one," Dean chuckled. "I doubt she has a good shower, if any, if she really lives at that club," I said. "Book a room here for her. I mean, I doubt she will simply accept staying in ours," Tate suggested. "She won't accept it," Dean said. "Did you order food?" I asked. "Pizza. It's the only option at this time. She won't eat meat, so I got cheese, as I know you two won't eat much, if any, of it," Dean said. Tate and I took after our father more, while Dean took after our mother more. Although he still required blood like us, he ate more human food. Tate and I mainly survived off blood and had little taste for human food. "She said the club closes at 3 am. It's a little past midnight right now, but she was very adamant about how she could walk back on her own when it closed," Dean explained. "She really doesn't want to hang out, does she?" Tate sighed. "She doesn't know us. Give her time," I whispered, hearing the water shut off. Tate got up and walked to the small patio, frustrated, as I waited with Dean on the couch. Only a few minutes later, she came out, catching us a little off guard, with only a towel wrapped around her. "Shirt," was all Dean could manage to say as she laughed. Tate came in from the patio, hearing the commotion. "Damn," he said. "Is it really that bad that I'm in a towel? I can go back in and get my bikini on. It's just a little wet," she offered. "Nope, that's fine," Tate said, as Dean threw one of his hoodies from the suitcase to her, along with a pair of his sweatpants. "You know your clothing is way too big for me," she said. "Better than nothing," Dean muttered. "Fine, you three turn," she said, giving us little time as she dropped the towel. I snapped my head away, feeling a rush of air as I turned my gaze. "Wow, you three are more like trained dogs than what they call you," she joked, her voice laced with amusement. The sound of her laughter was like music to my ears. "Thanks, it's refreshing meeting people who actually show some respect," she added, her voice filled with genuine appreciation. "I'm dressed now," she declared, and I couldn't help but notice how Dean's clothing engulfed her petite frame. Despite that, she looked undeniably cute in them. "Thanks for letting me use your shower," she said gratefully. "Stay, and you can use it anytime," Tate offered kindly. But she declined, her voice tinged with caution. I could tell she was hiding something, her quick recovery and hidden flinch when someone knocked on the door were telltale signs. It only confirmed my suspicions that she was in danger. "Pizza," Dean announced as he opened the door and paid for it. The aroma of cheesy bread filled the room as he placed it on the small table. He grabbed a piece and plopped down on the couch. She glanced at me and Tate, curiosity evident in her eyes. "You two aren't eating?" she inquired. "They don't, so more for us."Dean chimed in. Tate quickly countered, "We eat, just not pizza." "If you don't eat pizza, why get it?" she asked, genuinely puzzled. "For you."Dean replied. She turned to face Tate, her eyes narrowing playfully. "And what is it you eat, Tate?" she asked, a hint of mischief in her voice. Tate walked over to her, his movements fast. I couldn't tear my eyes away from him worried he was going to f**k up. "Blood," he said, his voice low and intense. She seemed unfazed by his revelation and turned to face him directly. "Really?" she responded. "Well, if it's mine you want, I warn you, I'm sour," she teased before walking away. I couldn't help but chuckle inwardly. She was strong and could handle herself just fine. Maybe I didn't need to worry about Tate after all. "So you three are princes," she mused. "Seems like you're treated just like celebrities." I nodded in agreement. "Sometimes, but closer to home, not so much thankfully," I replied. "Awww, I've never seen so much chatter over people before." She said. "Did you not know of us before tonight?" I asked, genuinely surprised. "No, but I don't keep up with gossip," she admitted as she reached for a slice of pizza. "So, you work at the pub," Dean remarked, his voice filled with interest. "That I do," she confirmed. "We'll have to check it out," Dean said, his excitement palpable. "It's the only sit-down place in town," she explained. "When do you work next?" Tate inquired. "Are you trying to stalk me, dragon wolf?" she playfully teased. "I think today may have been my last shift, we'll see," she replied, leaving us with a hint of mystery. "Last shift?" Dean echoed, his voice filled with surprise. I could see the worry etched on his face as he furrowed his brow. "As I told you when we first met, I'll be gone before you can even remember me," she said. "So you're leaving?" Tate asked, his voice filled with concern. She nodded in response. The atmosphere was tense, and Dean stood up and walked out to the patio, the sound of his footsteps echoing in the silence. Tate, clearly upset as well, retreated into the room, closing the door with a thud. It wasn't the news any of us wanted to hear, especially since it was hard to tell if she truly sensed the bond or not. She turned to me, confusion evident in her eyes, and asked, "Is the fact that I'm leaving really upsetting? We are all strangers, after all." I took a moment to gather my thoughts before responding, "You're just different, Calista. We don't meet many people we can talk and hang out with, or who see us as anything more than our status. It's nice finally finding someone, but it's disheartening to learn that they're leaving. What if I offered you a job? Would you possibly stay a little longer?" Her response gave me a glimmer of hope as she replied, "Possibly." Encouraged, I continued, "We need to keep an eye out for any suspicious activity near the beach. People who may have been under mind control or anyone who may have heard a random lullaby." She raised an eyebrow, seeking clarification, "Lullaby?" I nodded, explaining, "Singing at random times, but a song that draws them in. Since you work at the pub, you may hear people talking about it. Anything you learn, report to me. I'll pay you for gathering information and get you a room at this hotel so you don't have to stay at the club." "Look, I won't push for why you're living in a club, but I will provide better living arrangements for you."I offered. She hesitated for a moment before conceding, "Fine, but one week max. That's all I can offer you. And if you're covering a room, I don't want you to pay me. That's enough." "Fair. So we have a deal then? You will help me for one week?" She nodded and I extended my hand, "Shake on it then." She placed her hand in mine, and we sealed our agreement. In the back of my mind, my wolf Titan warned me, "Keep watching her. She can't vanish." I acknowledged his warning. I had every intention of doing just that. I wouldn't let her slip away, especially when she was already driving me wild. I wanted her, just as I knew my brothers did.
