After work, Caeleb and I headed back to the house and he walked over to his truck to leave. I looked around and saw that Aaron and Jenna still weren’t home. I wasn’t ready for him to leave so I did something crazy and yelled out to him. “Caeleb, you want to stay for dinner?” “I don’t want to cause any problems for you, Skyla.” “You won’t. I don’t like when Aaron stays gone all day and his girlfriend isn’t here either. Knowing them they probably won’t be home until after midnight.” “I don’t know if I should. If your brother comes home and sees me here what is going to think?” “That you stayed for dinner. It’s not like I’m inviting you to spend the night. It’s just dinner. I hate being alone in this house.” “Ok, Skyla. I will stay for dinner but I have to go after that.” “Thank you and that’s fine. I’ll probably shower and go to bed after dinner anyway.” What in the hell is wrong with me? I just talked to him about taking a shower. Keep calm Skyla. Don’t start acting weird now. I thought to myself as I walked into the house. I washed my hands and opened the fridge to see hamburger meat was already sitting there for me to cook. I decided on making quick pan fried burgers. I reached up to grab the skillet and with me being short, the handle slipped out of my hand and it started to fall. I went to shield my face from it hitting me when I felt a hard body slam against me. I froze. Great! He is now pressed against my backside and I don’t know what to do or how to react to this. I just stood there staring at the wall until I felt him back away. I slowly turned to see his reaction and it was pretty much the same as mine. Awkward! “F*u*c*k. I’m so sorry Skyla! I wasn’t trying to do anything inappropriate. I was trying to catch the pan before it hit you.” “I know, Caeleb. Thank you.” “I think I should go.” “Please stay. You didn’t do anything wrong, Caeleb. You were keeping me from getting hurt that’s all.” “I don’t want you to think I was trying anything, Skyla.” “I don’t. I know why you did that. Now let me get dinner started so we can eat.” Caeleb sat down at the table and watched me make the burgers. When they were almost ready I asked if he wanted cheese on his. He smiled at me and said he did. I finished up the burgers and grabbed a bag of chips from the pantry. I grabbed the sweet tea from the fridge and 2 glasses. I sat down with Caeleb and we added what we liked on our burgers and began eating. It was too quiet for me so I decided to try and make small talk. “Do you have a girlfriend?” Small talk plus me equals bad idea. That’s the first thing out of my mouth and he sat there for a moment before responding to me. “No. I haven’t really found anyone who could fill that position. Do you have a boyfriend?” My heart began racing and felt like it was going to beat out of my chest when he asked me that. “No. None of the guys around here are of my taste. They all want to play video games and act like they are 10.” “What exactly is your taste then?” “I don’t know. I have only had 1 boyfriend and he was a big nerd and neither of us were feeling it anymore so we broke up.” “So you haven’t tested waters to see what you like?” “No. I don’t find any of the guys I know attractive.” “Is there a guy you don’t know that you think you might be into?” “Uh-Um-I.” “Relax, Skyla. You don’t have to answer that if you don’t want to. I was just making small talk like you were doing but if you do want to answer it, your secret is safe with me.” “There is a guy that I do find attractive but I don’t think he would ever be into me.” “Oh. Someone your age or one of the guys from the field?” “I-um-he.. ugh. I’d rather not say where I know him from.” “Ok. Not going to push you into telling me.” After we finished eating, Caeleb thanked me for dinner and he left. I washed the dishes and then headed up to take a shower.
