Barclay had suggested some of the slave children carry their bags to their suite. Nick’s chest filled with pride when Todd didn’t hesitate even a second before rejecting Barclay’s offer and added a glare that made Barclay fidget and stumble over his words.
“That woman was a pyrahni,” Nick said softly as soon as the door to their accommodations was shut.
Todd sighed and nodded. “They’re like f*****g cockroaches, everywhere.”
Nick set the bags he carried down inside the door and took a careful look around.
“I’ve never been in one of these.”
Todd stopped near a narrow hallway, turned, bags still dangling from both hands and looked Nick up and down as if only just really seeing him. “You grew up here. How could you have never seen the inside of one of these suites?”
