Chapter 4 Nick wasn’t thrilled about the prospect of being stuck in the basement safe house with John Ruger, but he’d dealt with the presence of Todd’s father this long, he could tolerate it a bit longer. At least Todd would be there, even if they wouldn’t have any privacy. With Todd as a buffer, Nick wouldn’t have to interact with the man anymore. He’d already had enough of it for one lifetime, possibly two. When they mounted the horses waiting outside the prison, Nick was happy to slide his arms around Todd’s middle and squeeze gently. Todd glanced back over his shoulder, smiled softly, and patted Nick’s hands as he set the horse into motion. Witze and Jimmy led the way through the streets, John next, then Todd and Nick, hanging to the back. “You doing okay?” Todd asked as they rode.
