She is bawling her eyes out, cringing away from her father, holding onto the cast iron radiator with both hands...and we see that she has twisted it in her grip. Water spurts from holes in the contorted radiator. Angela wears pajamas with padded feet in them. (As before, her true identity as a female is concealed. She looks like a little boy, but not in such a way that a reader won’t believe she’s been a girl all along when her secret is finally revealed.) Her teddy bear is on the floor beside her.
