New Command

1800 Words
Walking to the new Command Center inside the captured city hall, Amy was nervous as she knew the General was supposedly waiting for her to arrive. As soon as she entered however she saw the programming shift, as his Executive Secretary walked her into his office and shut the door behind her. "Lt. Snips, good of you to come so quickly. It seems your actions here have gained the attention of command, and they have ordered you return to Britain for a post at a position they are just now creating. I do not have the details, and a plane is standing by to take you as soon as you have packed your things. As discussed however, I still have a reward for you for your heroic actions here today. You will be promoted to 1st Lieutenant, and I have informed the supply station to make a few upgrades for your weapons available. I have also submitted you for several medals, as your actions went above and beyond the call of duty. Good luck Lt. Snips." he said giving her the orders to report to Central European Command in London England. "Thank you sir." she said before walking out to the supply depot to see what kind of upgrades they had available. The Supply Station wasn't far away, and it had some basic upgrades until the Supply Officer came over with three different boxes that contained some seriously good upgrade items. One was for her carbine, the other 2 were for her sniper rifle, and the barrel that was laying there she could tell was the best of them all. It was the one she selected, and as soon as she did it equipped itself to her gun enhancing the range by 300 meters. She purchased a few other things from the supply depot, because she found that because of the kills she had been rewarded with a fair bit of money to spend. She was also glad she had put a few points into strength, as it would have easily overwhelmed her previous weight limit to carry. She looked around and smiled while she and her team walked to the plane, as she had been given command of the 5 partial squads she had made follow her, also glad that she had increased her Charisma and would be able to fill them out with the type of troops she felt she would need for her missions. As soon as they stepped foot on the plane however, the scene went bright white for a second before she found herself standing in another Generals office saluting him. "Welcome to London Lt. Snips, thank you for coming so quickly. In light of your achievement, we here at command believe it would be a waste of your talents to remain in one Battalion, and have therefore created a new combat force that we ask you to lead the testing of. We have many places that could use the kind of terror you waged against the enemy in your last engagement, and with the new transporter technology we have just developed, will be able to send you to any combat zone you are needed at. "As such we have your first mission, as we are expecting another large scale attack from the Russians. You have 12 hours to recruit the men to fill in your Platoon, and depart for the front lines of this battle. Your Platoon will only answer to you, and your success will be measured by number of kills you and they obtain. You will have the pick of any man currently in London, no matter what their current orders are. You will be placed under Colonel Davis, who will show you and your team where your new staging area is. This technology is top secret, and cannot fall into enemy hands. As such, you are ordered to destroy it should your deem it necessary. Any questions?" General Marks asked her. "No sir." she replied as it was clear what she was meant to do. "Dismissed Lieutenant, and good hunting." Marks said before they saluted each other and she walked out into a bustling base with a Corporal escorting her to where she needed to go first and recruit 15 men. It wouldn't be a full Platoon, but it was the most she could have under her command at once for the moment. Amy was amazed at her new Command Station, as it had everything she and her troops would need to conduct training. It was also where they would deploy from, and had it's own supply depot as well. Her own office was way bigger than she expected, but assumed it would be the equivalent of a Generals office designed so that it wouldn't have to expand as they went up the ranks in the game. The first thing she did was sit down at her computer and fill out her Platoon, adding 2 mortar teams, heavy infantry, another sniper and spotter, as well as some other roles including a demolitions expert. She wanted to be able to confront as many possibilities as possible, and smiled as she realized it had only taken her 30 minutes real time so far to get to this point. The game however had a 10 minute timer for her new troops to arrive, so she used the time to see if the upgrades for her weapons available here were any better than the ones she had been able to select at the last supply depot. This was when she discovered what was available was based on rank, and because of her very slight promotion it had unlocked a larger clip for her M110A2, as well as smoke grenades for the M40 attached to her M4 that would allow for near pinpoint artillery strikes. She smiled as she went back into her office and looked through her supplies and the mission parameters, and decided what she would and wouldn't take with her. As soon as her new troops arrived she assembled them in the staging area, all of the new comers confused about why they had suddenly been reassigned to a new outfit. Most of them had remained with the people they had gone to boot camp with, and were headed for frontline deployments. All 31 of them were seated waiting for her as she has spread word as soon as they arrived. "For those of you just joining us, welcome to the Ghost Unit. I know a few of you are likely confused about your sudden transfers, and we will get to that in a moment. To begin, I am Lt. Snips, and I am the CO of Ghost Unit. We are a rapid deployment team, meant to be the best of the best and by the time this war is over, that is exactly what we shall be." she said before pausing for a minute while she looked at them. "As such, we have access to some of the best gear available during this war and I strongly suggest you go to our dedicated supply officer for any specific requests for weapon upgrades. As far as what is expected of you, is to do your job and follow the orders of those in command. Unlike other front line units, this will be our base of operations." she told them as a few of them began grumbling about what she said. "Our mission is to support the areas of the front line that need it most, and we will do so to the best of our abilities. You might be wondering hiw a Platoon based in London can be considered a front line unit, when the fronts are hundreds if not thousands of miles away. Thanks to the boys in R and D, the answer is simple. We will be deploying and returning via a new classified device known as a transporter. We will walk through a portal here, and be delivered to where we are needed most. Once we have achieved our objectives, we will return the same way via a similar device that is in my possession." she explained as the programmed coordinates were accepted and the portal opened behind her which shocked them all. "Ma'am, is it safe?" one of the new recruits asked. "I have no idea, but we shall find out together." she answered before the portal closed and a hologram of their mission location came up. "Todays mission, is to halt the Russian advance at the town of Suceava. We will be split into two equal Squads made up of 4 teams, and will use our advantage to accomplish our mission. We will have artillery and air support on this mission, and will have a sniper team in these two towers. Each squad will defend these locations, as it is critical this location not fall into enemy hands. 5,000 Russians will be advancing on us, and we will have the support of 3rd Armies 12th Battalion. They will be engaging the enemy here with everything we have, while the sniper teams call in strikes and take out targets if opportunity. Some of you may see no action, which is our primary objective. However you must be ready to engage at any moment, and defend the sniper positions at all costs. There are no other locations with the advantage of these two towers, so if we lose them we lose our artillery and air strike support." she said as they realized that they were being thrown intonthe thick of it. "Ma'am, is this a suicide mission?" one of the new Corporals asked. "No, we have this. 3,000 for us and 2,000 for the Battalion. I like those odds." 1st Sergeant Cooper said as the 16 mew guys looked at him. "What? Lt. Snips with her strikes last time killed 3,500 troops and took out a general with a 2200 meter head shot. How many sniper kills did you get in that battle?" he asked her as she smiled. "382, closest encounter 900 meters." she replied to him. "This may seem like a tall tale to those just joining this unit, but it is not a suicide mission. We will never embark on a mission unless I believe there is a decent chance of us obtaining our objective." she told them all as they all nodded to her as she looked around the room. "You have one hour to gear up and get whatever you need from supply. After that we go to our mission area and prepare the best we can. I will lead team 1 in tower Alpha, 1st Sergeant Cooper will command team 2 at tower bravo. Dismissed." she ordered as they all stood and saluted her before the chaos of getting ready to deploy enveloped them.
