The wires in my brain tried their hardest to fathom how this could work as a coincidence, but it was no use, there was no logical explanation other than at least part of what I had been dreaming was real.
“Uh,” I parted my lips, unable to form a coherent sentence. “Perhaps.” I answered cautiously.
The woman chortled, dismissively waving her hand in the air. “Relax, Willow. No harm will come to you with me.”
I slowly nodded my head, unsure what to believe. It wasn’t exactly like a murderer said ‘hey, come talk to me so I can kill you’ when they met their victim.
But Wroe had told me she would come and she did, which meant he must also be telling the truth about my relationship with him. He really was my brother.
I followed Gladdis in pursuit as she headed to one of the free chairs in the far corner. She patted the seat beside her, directing me to join her.
I awkwardly took a seat, not taking my eyes off her for a moment. “I can sense your distrust, Willow.” She chuckled.
I mean I wouldn’t exactly label it as sensing, I was fairly obviously watching her like a hawk.
“I presume you’ve been experiencing some strange dreams as of late?” She wondered.
I frowned, pouting my lips slightly. “Yeah, although it typically seems to be the same one.”
Gladdis nodded understandingly. “The dream you’re having is your soul attempting to return to its rightful home. You’re aren’t from this universe, Willow.”
I hmph’d in response. “So I’ve been told.” I muttered.
“I’ll do my best to answer as many questions as I can, however there are some that you’ll need to answer on your own.” She sighed. “The book you were just reading, did it mention the Argents?”
I shook my head. “No, I don’t believe so.”
She clicked her tongue as she settled into the wooden seat. “The Argents are a long line of supernatural hunters. They originated in France in the 1800s, Argent means silver in French and silver happens to be deadly to werewolves.”
Alright, we’re just going to chat about werewolves as though they are absolutely real. Sure, why not.
“Their life purpose is to hunt the supernatural beings that pose a threat to humanity. Back in the late 1900s, after thousands of wolves, vampires, faeries, witches and argents were slaughtered, a truce was made between the two kinds of beings. The Argents would only hunt those who actually did threaten to harm the human race, those who wished to coexist peacefully were to be left alone.
This worked for a while, 600 years to be exact, until 1974 when Arthur Whitmoor Argent was born. He despised supernaturals from the get-go, making it his life mission eliminate the supernatural race once and for all. He recruited hundreds of men, building the Argent community bigger than ever before.
King Nathaniel of the Wolves and his faerie Queen got wind of this and attempted to defuse the situation, reminding Arthur of the truce made many moons ago. But it was of no use, Arthur declared war on behalf of the Argents and invalidated the alliance.
Infuriated by the chaos of their children, Zeus and Rhea, with agreement from Selene, banished the Argents and all supernatural beings who were partial to the war to their own realm as punishment for the destruction they were causing amongst the humans.
Somewhere down the line, Arthur got married and had a daughter named Adira. He raised her to be ruthless and cutthroat, to hate the supernatural with every ounce of her heart. She kept up appearances, but she never agreed with her fathers ways.
One day, on one of her fathers hunts, she came across a man named Aire. She was his mate and he fell in love with her instantly, vowing to protect her with his life, but he was a werewolf and her father could never find out about their affair.
They managed to keep their love a secret for many months, until Adira fell pregnant. Of course, they were over the moon with the prospect of having a child, but if her father ever found out then Adira was certain he would kill them all.
Adira and Aire prayed to the deities, Artemis and Selene, to help them find a way to save their child and end the war once and for all.
Unbelievably, their prayers were answered in some form. As it turned out, Adira was pregnant with twins. A boy and a girl.
Selene, the goddess of the wolves, promised to remove the Wolf genetic from the babies, but allowed them to keep their strength and the healing powers they would have otherwise had.
Artemis, the goddess of feminine fertility and the hunt, promised to endure the babies safety until they were born.
However, this all came with a condition.
The baby girl would have a prophecy to fulfil as a result of their help. The goddesses deemed the baby to be the one to bring an end to the suffering, the one who would empower the two kinds and bring the two worlds together, resulting in no further need for the separate realm. The little girl was also blessed with certain abilities from Selene, in order to help her quest.
The destiny for the boy was already sealed, he would live a happy human life and take on the role of an Argent, but Selene had other plans for the girl, for she was the only one who would bring what she envisioned to life.
Adira and Aire instantly agreed, they would do anything to protect their unborn children. However, the actions required for keeping the baby girl safe were much more extreme. In order to keep her out of harms way, she had to be hidden somewhere far away where her identity could never be revealed.
Arthur could never find out about her existence and neither could anyone else, her life would be in constant danger if it was known that she could be the one to end it all.
Many don’t want the war to end, those who enjoy the shed blood wish for it to forever continue.
So upon agreeing to the goddesses conditions, merely hours after she was born, the baby girl left her parents and twin to live with a married couple in the original realm, far away from anyone who could harm her, for the next 21 years.
Upon her 21st birthday, the girl’s powers will awaken and she will return home to finally fulfil her destiny.”
Well… s**t.
