Episode 1: The Mysterious Arrival Lena Hartley’s boots crunched on the gravel as she stepped out of the car and onto the dusty road that would lead her to her new life. Ravensbrook was a town that seemed frozen in time—a place where the past lingered in every corner, and the air carried an unsettling stillness. She inhaled deeply, the smell of pine and damp earth filling her lungs. It was the perfect place to start over. After the tragedy that had claimed her family’s life, she needed the isolation—needed the quiet. The city had been suffocating. But out here, in this small, secluded town, maybe she could find peace. Maybe she could forget. Lena’s new home stood at the edge of the woods, an old Victorian house that had seen better days. It was a bit rundown, with ivy crawling up the sides of the house and windows that seemed to watch her as she approached. But it was hers. No one knew her here, and that was just the way she liked it. With a small sigh, Lena pushed the door open, stepping into the house. The air was stale, thick with the smell of dust and old wood. She ran her fingers along the banister as she climbed the stairs, her heart pounding in her chest. The house felt... off. But she shook off the feeling, telling herself it was just the unfamiliarity of a new place. A few hours later, after unpacking a few of her things, Lena decided to take a walk through the town. She needed to get her bearings, to explore the area and see what Ravensbrook had to offer. Maybe she could find a local coffee shop or a diner where she could grab something to eat. The town was quiet—eerily so. No bustling shops or crowds of people. Just small, weathered houses and winding streets. It wasn’t what Lena had expected, but it felt... safe. Peaceful. As she wandered, she found herself drawn toward the woods at the edge of town. A thick line of trees loomed in the distance, their dark branches reaching out like skeletal fingers. Something about the woods intrigued her, though she couldn’t explain why. She found herself walking toward them, the sounds of the town fading behind her as the wind rustled through the leaves. Suddenly, she stopped. There, in the distance, near the edge of the forest, stood a man. He was tall, with dark, unkempt hair and a broad frame. His back was to her, but Lena could feel his presence—his gaze seemed to cut through the distance, as if he knew she was watching. He didn’t turn around, just stood there, staring into the woods. A shiver ran down Lena’s spine, and she instinctively took a step back. Who was he? Why was he standing there, so still? Before she could think more about it, the man turned and began to walk away, disappearing into the trees as though he had never been there at all. Lena stood frozen for a moment, her heart racing. Had she imagined it? Was she just tired from the move? She shook her head, trying to dismiss the feeling of unease that washed over her. It was probably nothing. Just some local who liked to wander the woods. But something told her it wasn’t nothing. Something told her that this was only the beginning. That evening, Lena found herself at a small diner in the heart of Ravensbrook, hoping to get a cup of coffee and calm her nerves. The place was cozy, with a warm glow emanating from the old-fashioned lights. As she entered, the soft hum of conversation stopped, and several pairs of eyes turned toward her. She smiled politely, trying to ignore the sudden tension in the air. It was as if everyone knew she didn’t belong, as if they were watching her closely. She took a seat at the counter, where a woman with short, graying hair quickly approached. “What can I get for you, hon?” she asked, her voice friendly but with an edge of curiosity. “A coffee, please,” Lena replied, offering a smile. As the woman poured the coffee, Lena couldn’t help but notice the strange looks she was getting from the other patrons. It wasn’t just curiosity—it was something else, something darker. She felt like they were sizing her up, trying to figure out who she was. “New around here, huh?” The woman at the counter asked casually, as if sensing Lena’s discomfort. “Yeah,” Lena answered, trying to sound more at ease than she felt. “Just moved in.” “Must be nice, getting away from all that city noise.” The woman smiled, but her eyes seemed distant, as if she was thinking of something far away. Lena nodded but didn’t respond. She felt something in the air shift, as if the diner’s friendly exterior was just a facade. The people here were hiding something. The door creaked open, and Lena’s attention was immediately drawn to a tall figure standing in the doorway. It was him—the man from the woods. His eyes met hers across the room, and for a moment, the world seemed to stop. His gaze was intense, unreadable. Then, just as quickly, he turned and walked to a booth at the back of the diner, not once glancing back at her. Lena felt her heart race. She wasn’t sure why, but she couldn’t shake the feeling that this was no coincidence. That somehow, her arrival in Ravensbrook was linked to him, and to the unsettling feeling she couldn’t escape. As the night wore on, Lena couldn’t stop thinking about him—the man in the woods. Isaac, she heard someone call him in hushed whispers as they walked past the counter. Isaac Cole. She’d heard the name in passing earlier when people spoke of local families, but now, it held a weight. And something about him felt familiar. Was it just the isolation of the town playing tricks on her? Or was it something more sinister? The next morning, Lena woke to a strange sensation—a feeling as though someone was watching her. She pulled open the curtains and looked out at the foggy morning. The woods were still there, looming in the distance. She caught sight of a shadow moving within the trees. Isaac. He was watching her again. This time, she didn’t turn away. She stood there, looking back at him. He didn’t move. Not an inch. And Lena knew, deep down, that her life in Ravensbrook was about to change in ways she couldn’t yet comprehend. End of Episode 1
