Chapter 4

The next few weeks were uneventful. Aside from the fact that I am trying my hardest to act like Pyro is not around in the packhouse even when he’s in the same room as I am, I have been focused on work. “Are you okay?” Ambrose asked me when he saw me sitting by the porch, drinking champagne as I stared at the empty garden. It’s nighttime and the fountain looks especially fascinating. I looked at him and nodded. “I’m just tired at work,” I replied because I am. I have catered to five magazine shoots for the past five days and that means overtime for five straight days. I’m just thankful that it’s already the weekend tomorrow. I won’t have to wake up early. I am planning to sleep the whole day and recharge. “Pyro has been asking about you,” he said and I couldn’t help but raise my brow. “Why are you avoiding him?” I scoffed. “I’m not avoiding him,” I told him. “I am ignoring him. Tell him that,” I told him. “Why are you ignoring him?” he dared to ask. “I don’t have any reason,” I replied before sipping on my champagne. “I just don’t like seeing him.” I know that Ambrose knows the reason. I just don’t understand why he’s acting dumb right now. It’s not like he doesn’t know that I was denied by that arrogant wolf. He gave me a look and crossed his arms across his chest while leaning on the metal chair. I arched my brows. “What?” I asked, feigning ignorance and innocence at the same time. “I don’t have anything to say to him!” Gods! Why are they making a fuss over that? And why would Pyro tell on me? It’s annoying! He pursed his lips and shook his head. “It’s obvious that you like each other,” he mumbled under his breath but I caught his words. I scoffed. “I don’t like him. It’s my wolf who fancies him,” I defended. He raised his brow. “You and your wolf are one and the same, Dion. Don’t act stupid. You like him and you hate that he chose someone else to be his mate.” He grabbed my glass and drank from it. “Oh, my god, Ambrose! Get your own glass!” I told him and he just shrugged. I rolled my eyes and poured more champagne on the flute. “And that’s already the point. He chose someone else to be his mate when he knew that it was me. I’m just trying to move on from that humiliation.” “That’s the reason why you’re always partying?” “I am always partying, Ambrose. You know that,” I retorted. It’s not like I party just to forget Pyro. I won’t forget him. I will never do. He’s still the person who denied me. He’ll forever be etched in my Top Hated list. “Yeah, but your partying became more frequent when he said he found his mate and it wasn’t you,” he pointed out. “I am stressed at work. I need a way to relieve it,” I reasoned. That’s one factor why I always go to the club. Another is, well, Ambrose is right but I will never admit to it. I heard a loud sigh from him. “You know what? It’s such a pain watching you two,” he began and I looked at him. He’s chuckling lowly while looking out the fountain. “He can’t admit his feelings to you and because of that, he’s on the verge of losing me.” “He won’t lose me. He never had me in the first place.” He let out another heavy sigh as if saying that this whole situation is already doomed. “You won’t solve anything if you keep dodging the problem,” he told me. “You’re old enough, Dionessa. And I have seen how you have matured through the years even without your parents by your side. You worked hard to get to where you are right now. But I know that you’re not the type who ignores the problem when it’s right in front of you.” I inhaled a heavy breath before giving him a look. “The problem isn’t on me, Ambrose. I was unwanted so I tried to move away. Would you expect me to push myself on someone who obviously doesn’t like me? I won’t do that. I know my worth.” I hate that he’s putting it all on me when I’m only reacting based on Pyro’s decisions. He doesn’t accept me as his mate? Fine! But he won’t expect me to act like I am still infatuated with him because I won’t and I will never do that. I just need him to reject me properly. I just need him to tell me that I am not his mate anymore. Face to face. Eye to eye. And everything will be over. My wolf needs to experience all the humiliation she needs for her to finally move on from that bastard. Ambrose looked at me, hopeless. He cannot tell me to solve the problem when it’s not my fault anyway. If Pyro was only man enough to reject me in my face, everyone would have moved on. “Dionessa, Pyro has his own reasons on why he’s doing that,” he told me like I’m already on the edge of his final straw. “You need to talk to him.” “I don’t want to,” I replied. “This is me dealing with my emotions, Ambrose. Can you just leave me be?” I am getting frustrated that he’s telling me what to do when I am already lost in my own world, too. And I hated it more now that he told me that Pyro is also having a hard time about the whole situation. I just don’t get it! But if it’s true, then, it’s not my call. Ambrose sighed, dejected. I don’t know if Pyro asked him to do this but I want both of them to know that I won’t bend just because Pyro has his own issues. I’m done trying to understand him. I’m not the Dionessa a year ago who would do anything to get his attention. It’s different now. “Okay,” he said before standing up, announcing his surrender. “Don’t get drunk on champagne. Good night.” I sighed as I watched him go inside the packhouse while I am stayed there and finished the whole bottle of champagne before finally calling it a night. I washed the flute I used and stayed in the kitchen for a few moments when I noticed someone around me. I pursed my lips and put my guard up until I saw Pyro coming inside. He’s wearing a black shirt and a pair of jersey shorts. And gosh, if that isn’t so hot of him. Damn it, Dionessa. Pick a damn side and stick with it! I pursed my lips and cleared my whole system before I started walking out of the kitchen to final head over to my room. He stilled on his place and watched me walk out. The lights are off but I can see his ocean blue eyes clearly. I stopped in front of him and looked at him. “Don’t talk to Ambrose about how I treat you,” I told him in a warning tone. “I have no intention of dealing with you and your issues. Just don’t take me for a fool.” His gaze trembled and he pressed his lips in a grim line. “I am not taking you for a fool,” he uttered in a low baritone. “I have never ever treated you like that.” I raised my brow. “Oh, yeah? What about you denying me as your mate?” I hissed. “You’re walking around the pack telling everyone that your mate is Wynona. And now, you’re here telling me that you never took me for a fool?” His eyes softened on me. “I’m sorry if you feel that way,” he whispered. He tried to reach for my hand but I stepped back. He sighed dejectedly. “I’m really sorry.” I scoffed and shook my head in disbelief. “Are you in your right mind?” I asked him before nodding eventually. “I can’t win against your stupidity, Pyro. So please do me a favor and make me live in peace, okay?” I smiled sarcastically before going to my room. Ah, f**k this. *** “What’s with the face?” Ryder asked me when he bumped into me. “Did you not sleep?” He narrowed his eyes on me. I rolled my eyes. “Shut up,” I groaned in a weak voice. He chuckled and ruffled his hair. “Go and eat. But Pyro and Wynona are currently eating,” he warned me. “But you don’t care about it anyway?” he smirked. I glared at him and started to go back to my room. “Hey! Where are you going?” he asked me, laughing. “Come on! I’ll join you. Don’t let Wynona get to you. You’re prettier than her!” he winked at me. I snapped my head at him but he just slung his arm around my shoulders and started leading me towards the kitchen. “I know I’m prettier. I am more intelligent and I have more substance compared to her,” I told him and he just laughed until we finally made it to the kitchen. True enough, Pyro and Wynona are eating. Wynona was telling him something but Pyro seemed to not be listening to her. She didn’t seem to notice though. She still looked eager to tell him the story and only stopped when she saw me getting inside. She raised her brow and whispered something to Pyro making him look up and snap his head towards me and Ryder. I ignored him and proceeded on getting my food so I could eat by the front porch because there’s no way that I am eating here. I am not eating here with them. Seeing them makes me lose my damn appetite. “Sorry. The Queen just woke up,” Ryder beamed as if he’s trying to make the mood lighter. I raised my brow at him. “Where’s the real Queen?” I asked. “Alpha and our Luna went to their mansion early this morning. I think they’ll be spending the whole day there because Caitlynn was already worried about her plants,” Pyro answered. Ryder’s eyes widened as he tried to hide the smile that is about to flash out of his lips. He pressed his lips together before clearing his throat. “Ah, yeah,” he mumbled before walking to the fridge to get water. “I got you water, girl. Let’s go.” He must have noticed the brewing tension in the atmosphere inside the kitchen. I nodded and smiled. “Thanks,” I replied to Ryder while I was staring at Pyro who’s looking back at me. I shrugged and looked away before walking out of the kitchen with my plate and with Ryder following after me. I don’t want to ruin my mood this early in the morning. Spare me, Pyro. Ryder gave me a knowing look when he sat on the metal chair. “What was that?” he asked me as he placed the glass of water on the table. I looked at him innocently. “What was what?” I asked back. “I was only asking where the Luna is.” He raised his brow. “Nah, I know that the atmosphere is always tense when the two of you are in the same room but it has never been this intense before,” he replied as he stretched his arm. “I mean, I already know that Pyro lost his balls but it’s not like you cared about that before.” I chuckled at what he said. “I don’t have an issue with him. You’re just imagining things.” I shook my head. “But you were right on the fact that he doesn’t really have balls.” He laughed and clapped like a seal. “You seem stressed. Do you want to go to the club tonight?” he asked me. I raised my brow and he grinned. “There’s this newly opened club near Tucson. It’s far away from here. We can have fun without inhibitions.” Without inhibitions. I like that. “Sure,” I agreed. “What time do we leave?” I asked, already excited because the thought of clubbing relieves me from stress. “Around six? What do you think?” I nodded. “Deal,” I replied and we both got excited planning about tonight.
