Chapter 3Pulsifini's POV.
The party officially began. We retreated behind the curtain to stand by.
I was still in shock. Our Alpha was intimidating, and the glance I had just received still left me feeling breathless and with a strange surge of heat inside me. Do I have such little guts? I pondered.
"Pulsifini!" I heard someone call out to me. As soon as I turned around, I saw Erin walking over. "Erin! What can I do for you?"
She took my hand straight away, "You'll find out if you come with me."
"But I'm still on call."
"Don't worry, there are enough people here."
Erin led me through the mansion until I came around to an isolated area. At a small pavilion, I saw Lillian, who had a birthday cake and some treats on a table in front of her.
"Happy Birthday Pulsifini!" Lillian said, opening her arms towards me.
I jumped over happily, "Thank you."
Lillian hugged me and spun me around several times. Did Lillian tell you that?"
"No, Pulsifini, you know. All these years I've been hoping you could feel happy today too."
"I feel it." I hugged her. "I've always been happy because of you."
Erin led me to the table and I sat down. The cake was lovely, my favorite strawberry flavor.
Lillian lit the candles for me, "Come make a wish."
I looked at the moon, folded my hands, and said in my heart, "I wish that everyone I care about will be healthy and live a long life. I wish I could be braver in the new year."
I opened my eyes and saw Erin and Lillian both watching me tenderly in the wavering candlelight.
I blow out the candles.
"Happy birthday!"
Yeah, happy birthday to me.
I took a bite of the strawberry, but my body suddenly began to heat up and a violent burning sensation made me dry heave.
"Pulsifini!"
"Are you alright?"
I braced myself against the table and waved my hands feebly.
The burning continued. It almost made me faint. As the pain climbed to its peak, I hallucinated. For I heard a voice, which suddenly appeared in my mind.
"Pulsifini, name me."
"What's wrong?" Erin took my hand in hers.
"Awake...awake."
"What's awake?" Lillian asked anxiously.
Erin realized what had happened to me and she returned to her gentle eyes, "It's your wolf, Pulsifini. Congratulations you're officially an adult."
Just as she had said, my pain receded the moment the voice sounded as if the snow had melted, and immediately no evidence of its existence could be found.
"Is it pretty?"
"Yeah." I saw it, in my mind. She was very beautiful, with fur as white as snow and eyes of a haunting purple.
"Hello, Pulsifini."
"Hello."
"Name me."
"Sorry, I haven't thought of a name yet."
"No hurry." Its tone was slow, like a nursery rhyme to settle the mind.
Suddenly, a fragrance of cedar, spirits, and tobacco wafted over, growing stronger and stronger. Just as I was puzzled, my wolf alertly pricked up its ears. She took a deep breath, then stood up.
"Go, Pulsifini. Your mate has appeared."
"What? My... my mate?"
"Yes."
As soon as the words left my mouth, my body moved forward uncontrollably. I stumbled and jumped down the steps of the pavilion and ran straight ahead.
I turned back with difficulty, "I suddenly have something to do, see you!"
"Where are you going?" Lillian asked.
Erin patted her shoulder, "Don't worry, our beautiful wolf is going to start looking for love."
My wolf led me into the hinterland of the party. Seeing the crowd getting thicker, I started to get nervous.
"Tefnut, let's call you Tefnut first. There are too many people here. Is it okay if we don't do anything rash then?"
"Don't talk, honey. Feel with your nose and heart, he's around here."
I tensed up to the point where my whole body tensed up and tried not to draw attention to myself as I looked around. Where was him?
But how could a maid-like person look out into the crowd and not attract attention? More and more eyes were directed at me, and my heart was about to give out.
In pain, I asked, "Have you found it?"
Suddenly, I felt all eyes converge on me. I stood in the heart of the circle that had formed at some point and looked up with difficulty. Only to realize that they were looking behind me.
I subconsciously looked down and saw a huge shadow looming behind me. Tefnut perked up and it kept wagging its tail in my head. "That's him, Pulsifini!
The sudden joy mixed with curiosity dulled my fears. I turned around slowly, still with my head bowed. Turned to face the source of the shadow directly.
The first thing that caught my eye was a familiar pair of shoes. I raised my head in an instant when realizing who its owner was.
I think the moon god should have revealed a miracle at this moment, she sent the moonlight to light up my mate.
His ice-blue eyes shone with light, and all eyes were converging on me at this moment.
I remembered the wish I had just made in front of the moon god, when I devoutly hoped that as an adult I could be braver. Now I feel the same way.
"Don't hesitate any longer!" Tefnut shouted in my head.
Yes, that's right.
I gently reached out and grabbed his wrist.
Although like to compare his body to rock-like great hardness. But the touch of the fingertips at the moment was warm. I felt in that moment happiness and stability transmitted along his wrist and my fingertips, and I was sent to the moon goddess by happiness.
But the next moment my fingertips touched his wrist, he immediately shook my hand away, as fast as if he had touched a pot on the fire by mistake.
I heard a few sneers from the crowd, and whispers began to form around me.
My nervousness returned and I couldn't understand why he disliked me so much, and I looked up to confirm his attitude.
However, he returned my gaze with nothing more than a cold stare.
He said with disdain, "A maid."
This was the greatest insult I had ever experienced, and my eyes could no longer hold tears. A flood of water blurred my eyes.
I curtsied in his direction. Then turned around and rushed out with my head covered.
On the way home, only the moon lit the way for me. But I couldn't see the moon anymore. I was resentful and irritated. I felt in my heart that the moon goddess must be teasing me. Why did she find such a mate for me?
"I hope to find a mate like my father, a gentle and kind gamma. No more, finding a commoner is fine. I have never been disgusted with my commoner birth. But why on earth? Why did you give me such a noble mate, the Moon Goddess, who is omnipotent? He also disliked me like that. How much courage do I have to have to go to him?"
Still wearing the maid's clothes, I ran back home without stopping. I had cried until I was trembling all over.
Ursula opened the door for me, and she was taken aback. "What has happened? My dear Pulsifini?"
I was already trembling to the point of being unable to speak.
"No...nothing... I want to go and rest."
I bypassed Ursula and her probing gaze and went upstairs.
Ursula called out to me from the doorway, "Pulsifini, I have put hot milk at the door, don't forget to drink it. Be sure to open the door even if you don't drink it. I brought a letter for you from your father. He asked me to give it to you until the day you turn eighteen."
The day was up and down, but it was a message that was enough to sustain me to get up and open the door. After I heard Ursula's footsteps move away, I braced myself and got up to retrieve the hot milk and the letter.
It was my father's handwriting, and I examined it carefully against the desk lamp. The envelope read, "To my dear daughter Pulsifini." My tears began to fall silently again.
"To my dear daughter Pulsifini, you will be eighteen years old by the time you receive this letter. Happy eighteenth birthday to you. When your mother was pregnant with you, we had countless visions of our future. Unfortunately, your mother was not able to be a part of it. I have never considered myself gifted when it comes to raising my daughter. I had no way to better understand your heart other than to do my best to ensure your healthy development. Then it was good to meet Ursula again. she is not only a qualified explorer but also a qualified mother. I am very relieved to have her take care of you.
I am writing this letter mainly to cheer you up for your future. I am not good at expressing myself, so I thought what if on your 18th birthday, there is still no way to say what is in your heart? So on this day, I plan to write them down.
We are all members of the Blood Moon Pack, it s our pride. As the pack's gamma, it has also always wished to dedicate its life to the cause of the pack. Although you are a girl, and your studies are good. But I hope you still don't forget your identity as a werewolf. The werewolf blood flowing in your bloodline will surely guide you back to the pack.
Our Blood Moon Pack is not completely safe. Many people spy on our happy lives in the shadows. For example, Spencer Crest and his son Douglas Crest, both of whom are likely to destroy our peace someday in the future.
So Pulsifini, I hope you will carry on my will and move forward bravely for the safety of our pack!
Do you remember the snowy mountain in front of the gate? I used to say that the snowy mountain in front of the gate has not yet been surmounted by anyone. But what if every generation of us tried a little harder? There will be hope.
My dear Pulsifini, hope you always be happy.
Love you forever,
Daddy"
My tears have dried up. I turned my head again to look at the moon in the sky. She was still hanging in the sky shining on all things on the earth. Perhaps this is the will of the moon goddess. Happiness comes at the price of pain as the price of growth.
I pressed the letter under my pillow, curled up under the covers, and with all my happiness and sadness, I soon fell into a deep sleep.
