11: Making his feelings known

1509 Words
Nolan's POV "We've arrived, sir," my driver informed me, and I opened my eyes as he pulled the door open. Stepping out, I started walking inside. "Boss, do we give you your belongings, or should we come inside?" Jackson asked nervously. I halted in my steps, realizing I had forgotten they were here with me. I motioned for them to come in with a flick of my fingers before heading inside. I lived alone in an apartment that belonged to my father. I didn't stay at the pack house with him because it was too far from my school and, more importantly, due to a very personal issue. My father and I couldn't be in the same room without yelling at each other. I also detested his family. I couldn't stand them. I was sure he sent me far away for schooling because his wife was uncomfortable with me being around. I stopped abruptly when I saw someone sitting in my living room. It was my father's beta, Beta Devon. "Why are you here?" I asked rudely. "No greetings? You might be the Alpha's son, but you should show some respect to your elders, right?" he asked, giving me a disapproving scowl. He was a middle-aged man with wrinkled pale skin, stern brown eyes, and a mustache. He was of average height. "Mighty Beta Devon, thank you for gracing me with your presence. To what do I owe this unpleasant surprise?" I replied sarcastically, shrugging off my jacket and throwing it backward, hoping that for Jackson's sake, he would catch it. "Don't play around, Nolan. I'm here to see if everything is alright around here," he said. "As you can see, everything is alright. The house is clean..." "Don't play dumb with me. You know very well why I'm here," he cut me off impatiently. "Enlighten me because I don't," I said, taking a seat on the couch and crossing my legs. He sighed. "Why are those two still in here? Do you still take your minions around? Get out," he ordered harshly. They glanced at me worriedly. "Didn't you hear me?" he growled. "Boss? What do we do?" they asked anxiously. As much as I enjoyed this, I needed them all to leave my house as soon as possible. I motioned for them to leave, and they quickly scurried away. "Will you leave already? I'm tired after a very long day at school," I said to him. "School? You left school at 12 am today only to roam around and waste the entire day. Is this how you are going to lead the pack? You can't even take care of yourself," he said. "Have you and your Alpha been spying on me?" I asked. I already knew they were, but now it seemed even more serious than I thought. The person must be very good at their job to follow my every move without getting caught. Now that I was aware of how serious this was, I had to find him faster. "The Alpha has been worried about you, which is why he sent me here to check up on you and find out if you are alright..." I stood up from my chair abruptly, catching him off-guard. "That man isn't capable of worrying about anyone. I'm sure he sent you here to find out if I'm doing anything that can soil his name. You can go back and tell him that his stupid reputation is intact. You all have nothing to worry about. Leave now; I have things to do," I retorted angrily before storming towards my room. He could see his way out. I lay on my bed with a sigh. "Well, this is depressing," Remus, my wolf, said. "It is," I mumbled. "Should we beat the truth out of him? I'm sure Devon knows who the spy is. Let's torture him so much that he would be forced to spill," Remus growled. "Devon's lips are literally sealed with duct tape that only the Alpha can open. He could be at the point of death, but Devon will never talk," I responded. "Let's try it out. We won't know until we see for ourselves," he insisted. "I'm telling you it's useless. Let's keep searching for the spy, and when we finally find him..." I paused and chuckled. "You know what will happen," I said. "I can't wait. It's going to be so much fun," he snickered. I closed my eyes with a smile. "So what are we going to do for the rest of the day? Lay here and feel sorry for ourselves?" he inquired. "The thought of that is depressing," I replied when I suddenly heard the sound of a message popping up on my screen. "It's Audrey. I promised her I would accompany her shopping," I informed him as I picked up my phone. "You say that, but then you end up paying for everything she buys," he grumbled. "Another way of wasting dear old daddy's money," I snickered and stood up from my bed. I walked into the living room and picked up my jacket. I headed out of the house. "Car keys," I ordered my driver coldly. "But sir, I was asked to drive you around at all times..." he stopped and quickly handed over the keys when he saw how hard I was trying to control my rage. I snatched them from his hands and got into the car. He stood close to the front of the car, and I started the ignition and drove out of the apartment at a very fast pace, almost running him over. "Go faster! A snail literally just passed us by," Remus said. I increased my pace and rolled down the window, feeling the wind on my face and whipping my head around. "Whoa! That's more like it," he screamed excitedly. I chuckled as we both enjoyed the ride together. I stopped in front of the mall and parked my car. My phone started to ring. "Where are you? I've been here for the past twenty minutes," Audrey asked, sounding upset as soon as I picked up the phone. "I'm already at the mall," I replied, getting off the car. "Well, hurry up already. Don't keep me waiting," she said. I was about to respond when I caught sight of someone who had been on my mind since the day I met her. "Why are you feeling excited all of a sudden?" Remus asked. "It's Genevieve," I responded through the mindlink. "Hello? Nolan, are you there?" Audrey asked, but my attention was far from her. I smiled and started walking towards Genevieve. "You must really like her," Remus said. "Of course not. She intrigues me, and I just want to play with her for a while. Don't you feel anything when you are around her?" I asked curiously, but my eyes were still on Genevieve, who was walking beside the road. If she really was my mate, then Remus would be bound to feel something, like the way I had felt when I saw her for the first time. "I don't. Why? Am I supposed to feel something?" he inquired. I frowned when I noticed her crossing the road. A car was going towards her at a very fast pace, yet she remained motionless, almost as if entranced and unaware of the oncoming vehicle. My eyes darted between her and the car, realizing that I had to act quickly to prevent an accident. I sprinted towards her and managed to pull her out of the road just before the car whizzed past. As we rolled on the ground, I shielded her with my body, driven by the instinct to protect her and keep her from harm. I couldn't help but wonder why I felt such a strong connection to her, even if she turned out not to be my mate and simply an ordinary girl. She was an enigma that I couldn't unravel, no matter how hard I tried. "Hi," I said with a smile while gently brushing strands of hair away from her face. Surprised, she pushed me away and hurriedly got up, dusting herself off. Her blushing cheeks only made her more endearing. "What were you doing?" she asked with a frown, clearly embarrassed by our recent physical contact. I found it advantageous that she was affected by me, as it would make my plans easier. "I just saved your life. Shouldn't you be thanking me?" I replied when she questioned my actions. She scoffed and attempted to leave, but I held her hand firmly, determined not to let her go so easily. "You can't leave like that. You owe me now for saving your life, and you must repay your debts," I declared. Her response was nonchalant, "What do you want?" "You," I retorted bluntly. Her eyes widened in surprise as she tried to pull her hand away, but I held on firmly. "I said I want you," I reiterated with a smile, tilting my head slightly to study her reaction closely.
