Thankfully, Peter let Kate ride in silence the rest of the way to the ranch. She needed the time to pull her thoughts together. Eventually, he pulled off the main road near a wooden sign carved with the words Whispering Creek Ranch. She watched the large meadows on either side roll by, one side full of cows and a scattered herd of bulls on the other, both behind electric fences. “Well, here we are, Kate. My home.” Kate scanned the scene before her, devoting a couple of moments to thoughts of sneaking off and running back down the road for home. “Are these beef cattle?” “Yes.
