Chapter Fifteen
THE TWO WOMEN PRECEDED US out of the building. They didn’t speak to us any further, but were talking to each other in Pengali all the way down the narrow staircase.
As soon as we hit the street, the two of them took off at a ridiculous pace in the crowded street. We had to run to keep up.
They went through alleys that were so narrow that we had to run behind one another and turned into even narrower alleyways. They had us climb over walls and scramble up and down steep sets of stairs and rickety ladders.
All I could see was Veyada’s back in front of me. Deyu was right behind me, but I had no idea where the others were or if they still followed.
