Maeve’s POV
When I had returned from my time by the lake the pack house was frantic.
I went to my father’s office to where he and my mother had been waiting for me. They explained that there would be a gathering of Alphas on our land in three days to discuss alliances against the rogues.
Since being informed of this news, I have been running around the pack house helping my mother, the Luna, ensure that everything will be ready in time.

The day finally arrived and there was a sort of nervous energy in the air. Even though this meeting was being held with the intention of various alliances forming, it was always dangerous when there was more that one alpha around and now, we were hosting our seven neighbouring packs.
I was in my room wrapped in a towel after my shower when my mother knocked and entered.
“today is a very important day, honey. We all need to look our best” she spoke softly as she picked up my hairbrush and moved to comb my hair softly.
“what exactly are you implying?” I scoffed.
She chuckled “oh I’m definitely not implying that your hair and clothes usually look like you just got in a fight with a bush. And lost.”
I laughed as she bent forward and placed a small kiss to the top of my head.
She turned to leave but as she reached the door she turned.
“I was implying that today you need to wear one of those many untouched dresses we have gotten you” she smiled sweetly as she glided out the room.
She was always so effortlessly graceful I thought as I made my way to my wardrobe.
I dug out a loose, flowy silk dress from my wardrobe. When I put it on and inspected myself in the mirror, even I had to admit I looked nice. The silver dress complimented my long onyx coloured hair and forest green eyes.
After doing some light makeup, I put on my shoes and raced down the stairs to help with the last-minute preparations.

I was fixing the flowers when my mother announced through mind link that the guests had begun to arrive.
Being the alpha’s daughter, I had to be out front to greet them with my parents, so I quickly scurried out the doors.
My parents and I, along with our betas were surrounded by pack warriors while we waited for the other packs to arrive and settle out front.
Suddenly I smelled something.
The smell was tantalising like a pine forest after a rainstorm. I tried to find the source but couldn’t see over our pack warriors.
“do you smell that?” I whispered to Emily.
“smell wh-” her response cut short by my father’s warning growl.
As my father moved past our warriors to greet our guests, I caught a glimpse of a strong tall man staring directly at me. My vision of him became blocked yet again but I could swear I still feel his eyes trained on me.
