It’s been a little over 7 months since I finished Uni and to get this opportunity in my industry is not heard off. My boss Tim Booth, CEO of CCJ Productions, has been pushing me to get exactly what I have been wanting most of my adult life. To be an assistant to the director which may not be exactly where I want to be, but it is one step closer to the Director.
So, as we have our last meeting about the location and the exact itinerary for the filming and production, I know he is counting on me to prove to the others that I am the best choice. I may not have the experience of others, but I have the passion and he knows I will put my heart and soul into it.
"Don't let me down Darcy” Tim says with a cheeky smile “of course you won't, you’re my number one girl." He smiles bigger and hands me the last of the files to be taken to location.
"I won't. You can count on me." I tell him, hoping and praying silently that I don't f**k it up.
"Go get them, you have your tickets and passport, you’re all packed and I'm sure Savio is hovering about here somewhere." He says as he looks through the door over my shoulder and as if he knew he was being talked about, in waltzes Savio, all suave and clearly ready to be on location with his outfit of choice.
“How are you my gorgeous sunflower? Are you packed and ready? Mr Booth, how are you sir? Looking radiant as always.” He says with a hip c****d and hand flying in the air.
“Thank you, Savio.” Tim chuckles and shakes his head.
“Right girlfriend, we gotta get ready to bounce on out of here, taxi in 30 minutes. Don't have me waiting you know I sweat like crazy in a cab.... later Mr B....” Savio says as he picks up my laptop case and swings his hips out the door.
Clearly, I wasn’t meant to hear what he said next, not quite sure he knew I was right behind him and waving to Mr Booth as I left his office. "What I would do to have that man in my bed.”
As we headed to the cab, Savio gives me an update on the schedule for today. It is not going to be an exciting day, flights and cab journeys and resort book ins. Oh how exciting, note the sarcasm.
The minute the cab door closes my phone rings showing my best friend facetiming. With a smile I answer the call and instantly wish I hadn’t.
“Stop screaming" I chuckle as Molly eventually stops screaming and catches her breath. God that girl is crazy, but I love her anyways.
“Time of arrival?" she laughs out, clearly embarrassed with herself.
“We are just in the cab on the way to the airport.” I tell her as I get myself more comfortable as the cab ride will take about half hour.
We chat back and forth as I update Molly on the happenings of the last few days. Molly has been on location a few days now and has a handle on where everything is basically where all the decent bars and restaurants are, and she has also mentioned a few single guys floating about the resort.
The minute that we get too comfortable chatting back and forth, Savio is clearly not happy he isn't getting my attention.
“Give it here girl, I want to catch eyes on Jonathan.“ I giggle as Molly scoffs at Savio.
That is the thing with Savio, he knows Johnathan is one hundred percent straight and loves how he can make him uncomfortable, but in a friendly way. I know that may sound just darn right weird, but it is how we have been for ages.
Savio is having the time of his life chatting away with Molly “right girl, where is that boyfriend you keep hiding from me all the time. I want to have a peek. Oh, Jonathan Where you at? Come talk to Savio”
Molly is ushering Jonathan to come join the chat, he reluctantly peaks his head into the phone, Savio grins “well hello there, young man, I will be with you two in approximately 12 hrs so have the cocktails ready for us Jonathan.“ We finish the phone call, and I can’t stop giggling away to myself, Savio is so playing with Jonathan you can see terror in his eye but it’s so funny.
We arrive at the airport, it’s a Monday mid-morning so most of the flights have left but LAX is still hustling with activity. We go to check in our bags and get our boarding passes for our seats I was thinking we would be in economy “Miss Summers, Mr Rincon, two seats together in first class, the waiting lounge is up to your right, enjoy.” The check-in clerk tells us.
First time for me being in first class, I’m going to make the most of it. We go to the bar and Savio orders for the both of us ”s*x on the beach for me and pina colada for gorgeous here, keep them flowing barkeep.” God a bit early, but I suppose it will help sooth my nerves a little.
As we sit waiting for boarding, I’m texting Molly trying to get a lay of the land for when we arrive making sure the director has everything he needs for filming, and I give her a few things I need for when I get there. I also ask what the cast are like, but she says ‘wait till you get here not fair me telling you what they are like…’
After what seems like an eternity, we are still waiting and Savio being Savio is chatting away to himself about every woman or man that passes. He cracks me up with some of the things he says “blonde bimmmmmbooo , too skinny. Oh you need a sunbed, my girl.“ I really do love him to bits. We kinda share everything with each other, but for some he is too much, but he makes me laugh constantly and is my rock when we are away.
Before we know it, we’re being called for boarding. First, we make are our way through the departure gate and then we board the plane. First class is amazing. Champagne handed to us as we’re being seated, and fresh towels to clean your hands and face. As I look at Savio, he has it on his face “Oh, I needed this. Sweetie, can I get a refill and another towel. Darcy babe, do you need anything? I think a refill is required, babe.”
As we drink champagne, we have a good catch up on what’s been going on lately. He’s asking if I’m seeing anyone. I don't really have time for that sort of thing, I’m always too immersed in my work, my schedules are crazy and locations just as bad… he is always seeing someone when we talk, but this time when I ask, he is really coy and does not really answer, which is not like him, but I let it go. I will not push to find out.
Savio continues to tell me about some of the cast, which Molly would not. “Andre is my kind of heaven. Payton is a self-righteous pompous and fed by the silver spoon b***h. Oh I can see drama ahead with her.” Savio really does have a way with words. He tells me about a few of the other cast members, which he said were all really nice. He did say to watch out for Serena Nunez the public relations rep his words “the psycho b***h from hell.”
For the next couple of hours on the flight, we drink and giggle at stories from our past. We have a lovely first-class meal, we only have maybe two hours left on the flight, I so hate long haul flights, when Savio says to me. “I’m going to check out the talent in economy and stretch my legs, Chika “ I nod and say “don't be too long” as he trundles off with his little swagger. I decide to check emails, maybe have missed something from L.A. and right enough there is an email from Tim, nothing major but telling us to behave on the flight. Little peculiar, he has never said that before when we have previously gone to location.
I email Tim back saying of course we are and tell him I have everything under control on location, even though we have not actually arrived yet. Molly’s team as always are amazing. They usually have it all under control only been once were everything went to s**t but that was not their fault really. There is also a few emails from suppliers and the resort we are staying in and an email from Serena just going over P.R related stuff, that I think to myself I will leave till we arrive and settle in.
Sitting with about fifty minutes till we land, I wonder where on earth has Savio got to and just like that he appears. I swear he can hear me thinking.
“Oh, working already, are we? You are so naughty, Darcy girl “ he says as he slides back into his seat.
“Me? Never, Sav. I’m just replying to some emails. I need off this plane, it’s been so long since I was outside” I say as I look out the window. Not seeing much but water beneath us.
We have landed in mainland Tahiti Faa’a International Airport for our connecting flight to Bora Bora and then we will take a boat ride to the Four Season’s Resort. OMG, it's absolutely amazing. The water looks so clear and beaches so clean with white sand. This has to be in the top three locations.
We make our way through the airport and collect our cases. Savio reminds me we have a driver assigned to us for the duration of our stay. We get to the boat and the driver takes our bags, helps us into the boat and says, “30 minutes ride guys, so just relax.” I swear it feels like 10 minutes in the boat and we had arrived. Oh my lord, this place is gorgeous.
As we make our way to the main reception, Molly appears just as the driver leaves our luggage at the desk. Molly is squealing with excitement and by the looks of her she has had a few cocktails while she waited on our arrival.
“Darcy, Savio, about bloody time you guys arrived.” She practically slurs her words.
Yeah, she has definitely had one too many cocktails, but then we are not on set for another few days, so technically she is still on a kind of holiday, but she better not be too hungover as we have a few meetings to attend and cast to formally meet.
“Mols, show me the cocktails, I am in desperate need of one” Savio says to her, making her clap her hands giddy with excitement.
“We need to check-in first, Sav” I tell him shaking my head. The guy is an absolute rocket, but I wouldn’t want him any other way.
We are given our keys to our villas and a very cute busboy puts our luggage onto a trolley and shows us the way.
Even though I love Sav, I am so glad we have separate little villas to stay, so if he decides to break some rules and entertain crew members or even the resort staff, I am safe and sound in my own little haven.
After a little disagreement about what our plans are, I manage to persuade Savio to hold off on the cocktails until we are unpacked and freshened up. Nothing worse than sitting on a plane and travelling and stinking the resort out. So with that in mind, I quickly unpack and have a nice cool shower. To be honest, I have no idea what time of day it is as I have not changed my watch and haven’t even looked at my phone since we got on the boat.
The minute I turn off the shower and wrap a fluffy towel around my body there is a knock at the door and a very familiar voice shouting “it’s me.” Yeah, that will be Molly, clearly getting impatient. In she saunters with cocktails in hand and Johnathan tailing behind her.
“Hey, Darcy” Johnathan greets me and takes the glasses from Molly, he isn't even bothered that I am standing here in my towel. To be honest, we have been friends for years, but still give me a chance to change, jeez.
“Hey, Johnathan. You got the time on ya?” I ask, needing to know what to wear and how long I have before I can climb into the comfy bed that is right in front of me now.
“It's just before 8pm Molly. You all confused with the travelling?” Johnathan asks with a chuckle.
“You could say that, and the fact we had quite a bit of champagne on the first leg of our journey. Oh, and I am starving” I chuckle as I shout through from the bathroom as I quickly get dressed.
The weather is still warm even at this time of night, so I put on a thin summer dress with my sandals, anything to keep me cool, well until I get climatised to the weather. Normally on location, it takes me a few days to get used to the different weather and conditions, but I have a feeling this time round it may be a bit longer, and then by the time I get used to the weather, it's on to the next location. This time round we are here for a good few weeks.
I had just picked up my glass and took a sip of my cocktail when in walks Savio, in his bright pink short shorts and a skin-tight white silk shirt.
“Let’s get this party started, chichas.”
