I tried to struggle, but they were too strong, and I couldn't move an inch. "Me first," One of the men said. Before I had time to process his words, the man lent down and grabbed my arm, he bit into my flesh, ripping away the skin from my body. I screamed again, but suddenly the man biting me dropped to the ground holding his throat and howling in agony. I was frozen from shock. The stinging in my arm was numbed slightly as I watched the man on the ground. He was screaming and choking as my blood spewed out of his mouth, and he began shaking uncontrollably. His final scream pierced my ears, and then he exploded, covering me and his friend in blood and other body parts. "No!" His friend hollered in my ear. He released my hair, and I dropped to the ground with a loud thud that I barely heard over the thumping of my heart. I started to crawl backwards away from the man as fast as I could, his face terrified me as he gasped open-mouthed at the spot his friend had been lying seconds before. "You!" He screamed at me, "You killed him! I'll kill you!" Even though I had crawled at least twenty feet away from him by then, he jumped and was on me as if I had remained on the ground by his feet. I screamed again, and through my arm up helplessly, a silver force field shot out from my hand and threw the man into the cliff wall. He screamed at me again, but all I could hear was my heart pounding in my ears. My vision was becoming fuzzy, but I got up and started running. I didn't get far before something hard hit me from behind and knocked me face first to the ground, splitting my lip. The man yanked at my arm and pulled me over so we were facing each other, I felt my arm break under the force of his grip and screamed again until he grabbed me around the throat, cutting off my cries of help. I tried to keep screaming, but it was all I could do to gasp for air, I knew he was taking his time killing me, his hands were strong enough to snap my neck in an instant. I threw up my good arm again, hoping that what ever I did before would happen again. This time the silver forcefield shot up like a blade, it cut straight through the man's head. I felt his hands fall, and I struggled under his weight to free myself. I shoved him away and the man fell backwards, slowly and shaking all over. I stood up, I was breathing very hard, each breath burned my throat as air pushed itself down towards my lungs. I looked down at his body in disbelief. It was still squirming around on the ground. I managed to move my feet closer to him and looked at his face. A scream of horror pushed up my scorching throat and left my lips as I watched his face begin to heal itself. "What are you?" I shouted as loudly as my throat would allow. I turned away and ran as fast as I could in the opposite direction. After a few seconds, I could hear his pursuit, and he was gaining on me. I suddenly found myself breaking in a clearing, but I wasn't alone. Two men and a woman stood there in dark cloaks, the hoods of their cloaks made dark shadows across their faces, and all I could see were their eyes, shining in the moon's light. The woman's eyes seemed patient and comforting as she stared back. The man to her left held no surprise or concern at my appearance, but the man on the woman's right stared down at me with an intense panic. Our eyes held, and I couldn't look away, and there was an amazingly comforting smell coming from his body. I noticed that they didn't seem at all surprised to see me, bloody, cut up and gasping for air, it was as if they were waiting for me. I froze once I was halfway towards them. What if he led me to them? I panicked. "Don't be afraid." The woman's gentle voice told me when she saw me stop. "We're here to help you." I couldn't move, I wanted to believe her, I wanted to run to them, but fear had rooted me to the spot. Before I could make up my mind to trust them, a scream of anger howled out behind me, and I turned to see my pursuer as frozen as I was. He stared furiously at the three strangers. "She is mine!" He hollered at them. "Not anymore," The man to the left of the women said calmly. "This is our land. You know the laws. Go on your way." He didn't raise his voice as he spoke to my attacker, but still his voice rang with authority. "She killed my brother!" He yelled back, not taking his black eyes off my face. I was unable to look away from his face also, now that I could see it clearly in the moon's light. I started backing away from him, his eyes were pure black, his skin was pearly white in the light and razor-sharp teeth filled his mouth. He was covered in blood, my own and his brothers, making his appearance even more frightening. "She killed your brother?" The woman's voice was full of confusion and disbelief. "That's impossible. I would have seen it." I risked a glance back at the women. All three of them had removed their hoods. The women was staring at me in wonder and confusion, the others looked at me also. One looked confused whilst the other looked at me in desperation, his hands half out stretched in front of him as if he wanted me to be closer. I suddenly felt safer seeing his face. Did I know this man? I wondered. "You dare call me a liar, witch!" The man snarled. I spun my head back in his direction. The second he spoke, he'd moved closer to me while my back had been turned. I started moving slowly backwards again. I wasn't sure if I could trust these people, but I defiantly knew I didn't want to be anywhere near this man. "He is telling the truth." The man on the left spoke again as the woman opened her mouth to argue by the look on her face. The man and women exchanged an odd look that I didn't understand, it was as if they were delighted but fearful. "I don't care who she killed." She told him, "The girl is on our land, she belongs to us." "Are you sure about her?" The man to the left of the women whispered. "I'm sure." She whispered back, "She's the one." The lone man stared at me with a crazed look. "I will be back for you, they can't protect you forever." He turned and glared at my saviors, "You are making a mistake, this will not help your attempts to get us to join your war." He yelled before vanishing into the forest again. There was silence in the clearing now except for my deep breaths and still racing heart. Was the danger over? I wondered. I stared at the three strangers, suddenly scared as the women's words registered in my mind. 'She belongs to us.' She'd said to the man. What did that mean? Would they attack me now? I looked back at the forest, contemplating running away. "You may leave if you wish" The women informed me gently, though the man to her right shot a pained glance at the women, but quickly composed his face again once he noticed me watching him. "But you should know that it's not safe for you in the woods, not for a human at least." Not for a human? I thought. What was she saying that they weren't human? Witch. That's what the man called her. Was that even possible? Was any of this possible? I looked down at my still bleeding arm where the other one had bitten me. Had he been human? I stared back at the forest once more and collapsed. Before I hit the ground, the man that had been standing to the right of the women caught me, he held me close, and I looked up into his beautiful eyes and fainted.
