02 || Is He Staying...?

1023 Words
These men are part of the vampire council of whatever who had been protecting the identities of vampires, but their ways are far too cruel as much as to killing innocent people who happen to just pass by them. “Why are you getting in the way, Celine? Why must you keep us from having a tasty midnight snack?” dude with the long blonde hair says. “Because he’s mine. Not yours.” the words slipped out of my mouth. What am I saying? Seriously, have you got no brain to filter your damned thoughts and make sure it’s actually not going to get myself in trouble. Whatever happened to living in peace and quiet? Why must I put myself in a situation where I could possibly be killed? “Celine, you of all of our beings know better than to get yourself into such situations.” dude with the black hair says. I forgot their names, okay? Not like their names ever meant something to me, that’s why I never bothered to even remember them. “Can you just back off? It’s not like you guys even run out of midnight snacks as you call it.” I said, rolling my eyes. I am officially dead meat now. “Give us one good reason to not kill the man hiding behind your door like a scared puppy.” the guy with the black hair growled. “He’s my mate, and there is no way in hell I will let you morons touch him without getting to me first.” I snarled. “Your mate?” he smirks. “You? The almighty Celine who has been living in complete isolation has a mate?” the blonde one says with a laugh. “If he is your mate, we will back off. You will have to prove it. We will be watching. For tonight, we will feast on another.” the other guy with the short blonde hair says. Jesus Christ, talk like you’re from this era for f**k’s sake. Weirdo. “Please be so kind as to learn our names, sweetheart.” the guy with the short blonde hair says before they disappeared. I took a deep breath and let out a sigh. I opened the door and the man fell flat on his face. He lets out a groan. “Get in.” I said. He scrambles to his feet and quietly makes his way inside. I couldn’t help but stare at him. Is he really my mate? The mate I’ve been ignoring for my entire existence? I shook my head violently. “Why were those guys after you?” I asked. “I was just buying some noodles at the convenience store and on my way home I passed the alley I usually take to my home, and the next thing I knew they were chasing after me.” he said with a frown. “Those assholes.” I cussed. “Do you know them?” he asked. “Kind of. They’re bad news.” I simply said. “Who are they? What did they want? Did I do something wrong?” he asked in one breath. “Hold your horses there. It’s not a you problem, it’s a them problem. You didn’t do anything wrong. They’re just bad people who pick on people they want to. They just think they can get away with anything. It looks like they’re your shiny new toy.” I explained. “But will they… you know?” he asks. “They might. So, as of today you can be under my protection. If you wish it.” I said deadpanned. If you wish it? How cringe worthy must you be for you to actually say that? Damn it. “So… You’re asking me to move in with you?” he slowly asks as if poking the water to make sure it’s safe to swim in. “In a way, I am. This is mostly for your protection. I know this seems suspicious, and you have every right to decline.” I replied. “Well, it is suspicious.” he frowns. “I was chased down by those men who wanted to kill me, all coincidentally to your place. You also mentioned that you know them and talked to them like you knew them. I don’t really have the assurance that you’re not somebody who is trying to kill me as well.” Well f**k. “Fair point. In my defense, if I wanted to kill you, I would’ve already done it ages ago and not dragged it this far.” I shrugged. His eyes widened at my statement and only then did I realize the gravity of my words. Nice going, moron. You made him think you want to kill him. Why the f**k am I so desperate to make him stay with me anyway? Snap out of it. “You can leave if you want to. The door is over there.” I quietly say. Am I going to regret this? Maybe I will, and maybe I will not. If he is truly my mate shouldn’t I be thinking about his safety and comfort? Don’t say I am, because he is not comfortable in this whole mess. I looked at him, and he was standing his ground not moving an inch from where he’s standing. “If… If I leave, will they kill me as soon as I step out the door?” he mumbles. “I wouldn’t know, honestly. Yes, I do know those men. They are very bad men who kill for fun, but I never associate myself with such people.” I replied. “I’ll stay…” he whispers. “What?” I asked with my eyebrows furrowed. “I said I’ll stay.” he says a bit louder. Oh, I heard him the first time. I just thought my ears were deceiving me. I am 198 years old, and my hearing could be degrading. Obviously, that’s a joke. I’m immortal. If I can’t die, why on earth would my hearing be degrading? Come on. You’re better than that.
