Chapter 01

You must never take this necklace off. No matter what happens, promise me to never take it off.' A woman in her early thirties shook the child's shoulder hard as if it would make the child not forget her words. The woman was crying as she repeatedly whispered those words over and again while hugging the child. 'You alone should survive. You deserve to.' As the woman finished her words she pushed the child hard making the child stumble back and in an instant a loud explosion occurred where the woman was standing and made the child fly far away because of the impact. Seolurrie woke up and immediately sat up while grasping her chest. Pant, pant. She was panting heavily. After a moment she gradually calmed down. 'A dream. That dream again. I've been dreaming about the same thing for the past few days now. That didn't even happen to me.' Seolurrie got off from her bed and headed to the bathroom inside her unusually large room while murmuring to herself. "I should stop reading nightmarish books for a while. It's making me have nightmares." She brushed her teeth and took a bath. She was wearing her clothes only to stop briefly. 'Have I even been reading those kinds of books?' She shook her head to dismiss the thought. She looked at the wall clock and saw that it's time for Zara to arrive. And sure enough before she could even turn around the door on her room sprang open. "Good morning, my dear. You're quiet early today." She smiled and walked over to Seolurrie. Zara made her sit in front of the mirror so she could brush hair. "Nery will come later with your breakfast, she will also take your laundry." Seolurrie smiled at Zara in the mirror, but deep inside she was smiling sadly. 'When will I be able to go outside?' She wanted to ask Zara but chose not to. She still remembers the enraged Zara when she first asked that. She was scared of the angry Zara. Of course that was the first and last time she asked that. She doesn't want to see that side of Zara ever again. 'I felt traumatized until now when I think about it.' As soon as Zara finished brushing Seolurrie's hair she spoke in a soft voice but Seolurrie caught a slight threatening sound behind it. "Make sure to always follow my requests. Especially the one I always tell you not to do." Zara saw herself out after giving Seolurrie a kiss on both of her cheeks. Seolurrie didn't bother to ask what Zara meant on what she said earlier because she clearly knew what she meant. It is to never go outside of these walls. She still remembers the times when Zara told her those. When she was still a child Zara always told her not to go outside because there are monsters out there. When she was a teenager she was told that a lot of bad people were after her so she mustn't go outside ever. Seolurrie often asks Zara why there are bad people after her but Zara always silently shrugs. And after sometime she grew tired longing for an answer on that particular thing and never bothered to ask ever again. She realized that the questions she really wanted to be answered were never meant to be answered at all. She sighed and stood up from the chair and roamed around her room that resembled a library. She picked a book from one of the shelves and sat by the window couch. She stared outside. There was a painting covering the view but because of the theme of the painting it feels like she's looking at a realistic view. The painting was a sight of nature with different kinds of trees and a lake in the distance. She lowered her gaze in her book and started to read. A couple of hours passed, Seolurrie didn't notice the time because she is so engrossed in her book that if not for her stomach rumbling she wouldn't have stopped reading. 'Why is Nery still not here?' Seolurrie thought to herself and glanced at the wall clock. It stated that it was already eleven o'clock in the morning. 'Could it be because she forgot about it?' Seolurrie was confused why Nery was still not in yet. She started thinking of the possible reasons, but she could not find one. First, because Nery never skipped coming into her room. Second, Nery was never late. And third, Nery was a very responsible woman. 'Then what could be the reason?' Seolurrie tried to get up from the couch only to fall to her butt. The ground began shaking terribly and the books on the bookshelves fell to the floor. She started to get dizzy, but before she completely lost consciousness she heard a loud shattering of glass and a loud explosion and some rumbling. *** Seolurrie grabbed her head as she tried to sit up. Only to hiss from the pain on her hand. She looked at her hand and saw some glass shreds penetrated there. She looked around the room even when her head was still aching and her vision still blurry. Her room was a complete mess of books scattered on the floor, the windows were shattered and a part of her wall had a huge hole in it. She stared at the hole in her wall for a moment, not moving an inch and then she came to her senses. She quickly stood up and walked rather fast to the hole on her wall. She stopped only a few meters away. One thought kept repeating in her mind. 'Can I finally go outside? Am I able to see the outside world?' She hesitantly walked closer to the hole that is big enough for a medium size tree to fit. She was breathing heavily while anticipation could be seen in her dark blue eyes. When she finally stepped past the big hole she felt like her heart fell to her stomach. The scenery that she saw was a completely different sight she was expecting to see.
