CHAPTER SIXTEEN

1369 Words

ISABEL'S POV. I jolted awake, my scream muffled by the thick old blanket that was wrapped around me, before I drifted off to sleep last night. Panting heavily from the horrors of the dream, I quickly pushed myself to the corner of my bed, my knees pulled tightly against my chest as if somehow that would shield me from the lingering terror of the nightmare that I could still feel all around me. "It's not real, it's not real." "Don't be scared, Isabel, get a hold of yourself. You're fine, you're safe." I continued to whisper the words to myself as my eyes darted around in fright. But even I couldn't believe my own words if I tried. Because I wasn't fine. I wasn't safe, not after what I just saw. It was just a dream, I tried to convince myself, even as I felt the sweat heavily on my skin.
