Chapter Ten
Matthew’s shrill laughter broke the silence in the room. He stared at me like a hungry predator stalking his prey. Looking around, I realized that there was nothing that could have helped me fight the beast in front of me. When he laughed again, my entire body went numb. His menacing laugh petrified me.
He stepped closer and I immediately stood between Matthew and Emily. I had to shelter the woman who was carrying Nick’s unborn baby. I had to stand up to Matthew once and for all.
