Chapter Fifteen
When Cariad climbed into the flitter so that Garwin could fly her out to the Nova Fortuna, she was surprised and pleased to see Kes was in a passenger seat. She’d known he had to be somewhere at the settlement, but she hadn’t had time to go and find him. Finding people was hard in the random arrangement of shelters and general chaos.
They hugged. Cariad was genuinely pleased to see his familiar face despite the slight awkwardness between them.
“How come you’re going out to the ship?” she asked as Garwin started up the vehicle and they began their journey.
“To try to speak with the fila and begin an official dialog,” Kes replied. “There’s so much we don’t know about them and need to find out. I’m really looking forward to it after hearing about their style of communicati
