CHAPTER 5 Her body couldn’t do anything but stare. She had rehearsed this very second so many times since Drisklay and his team relocated her up here. She had imagined how it would feel, the initial surprise, then the shock giving way to euphoria. She had pictured herself running to him, envisioned that first embrace spanning so many tumultuous years. The pain would wash away like marker lines on a dry-erase board. Instead, she froze in the middle of her own apartment. He stood. He looked different. Older. Had she aged that much, too? How could she tell?
