Chapter 5The heavens opened as Jay pulled into his driveway. They had been lucky to escape the rain during the barbecue, but he wished it could have held off a few minutes longer until he was safely inside the house. Icy drops stung as they hit, whether it was the top of his head or against his windbreaker, and he bolted for his front door with renewed energy. The wind drove the rain at an angle, soaking his hands as he pushed the key into the lock, but he had the door open for Frank before the younger man had turned off his headlights. Frank was laughing when he reached the porch. “I’m not sure snow wouldn’t have been warmer.” They both dripped onto the living room carpet, though Frank was mostly dry when he shed his heavy coat.
