PROLOGUE
“TIN, PLEASE… I need your help. I mean, we need your help. Please do something to stop the wedding between me and Ice tomorrow,” Lorraine pleaded.
Kirsten paused wiping the table when she heard what her best friend said. She turned to look at her and gave her a strange look. She scratched her head as she saw the seriousness in her friend’s eyes.
“W-What!? No way! I’d rather clean here forever than look like the villain in your love story in everyone’s eyes,” Kirsten said firmly. It seemed she had no intention of helping her friend.
“But Tin, you know I love someone else, don’t you? Can you bear that? Seeing your friend tied to someone she doesn’t love?” Lorraine said fervently. She glanced at Ice standing at the side and stepped on his foot with her six-inch Gucci heels. “Put some effort here, Ice. What? Am I the only one who doesn’t want this? This was our decision, right?”
Ice sighed and looked at his nanny’s daughter. “Hey, don’t be too dramatic. I’ll pay you.”
Kirsten scoffed at what her boss said. She couldn’t deny that she needed money to buy a new laptop for her night job.
“I’ll think about it,” she said, rolling her eyes at her boss. “But what exactly do you want me to do? What can a housemaid like me even do for you?”
“Just shout to stop the wedding. Then act devastated about it… cry and make a scene inside the church. That’s all, Tin,” Lorraine explained. Her eyes sparkled with hope, clearly happy that her friend might agree to her request.
“What if I do that, but the wedding still pushes through?” Kirsten asked worriedly.
Ice stood and approached her, even putting an arm around her shoulder, which she immediately shrugged off. She was utterly disgusted by his actions. To her, Ice was a walking tupperware—plastic.
“Back off and stop pretending to be nice to me. But Sir Ice, what if the wedding still happens? What if your parents get angry at me? They might fire me and kick me out of your house. What will happen to me? You know I have no family left. This house is all I have.”
Lorraine looked at her friend positively. “I’m here, Tin. I’m your best friend. I won’t abandon you. Just do your best. I trust you.”
“Me too,” Ice said seriously in his deep voice.
Kirsten threw the rag she was holding into her boss’s face. She was just so annoyed with him. For her, he was only acting nice because he needed something from her. He barely noticed her daily. When they crossed paths in the mansion, it was as if she didn’t exist. And whenever he ordered her around, it felt endless.
“You’re such a plastic jerk!” Kirsten shouted, unable to stop herself from getting riled up.
“You’re too violent, huh? I like it,” Ice said, staring at her. “Just do your best… make sure to convince them. Especially Mamita,” he added seriously before turning around and leaving.
Kirsten sighed. “What a conceited man. He’s so annoying.”
“Tin, please be patient with that arrogant guy.” Lorraine stood up and held her friend’s hand, her eyes pleading. “But can you really do what Ice and I are asking?”
Kirsten shook her head. “I don’t know. I’m scared of what might happen.”
“Tin, please… have mercy. What do you want? Should I kneel in front of you? I’ll do it.”
“Don’t do that. I’ll get mad at you, Lorraine.”
“Tin, please. I’m begging you,” Lorraine’s eyes were now brimming with tears.
“Lorraine, let me think about it first. My heart is so close to Ice’s family. They were the ones who took care of me and my mom when she was still alive. They were the ones who sent me to school. I’m scared they’ll be disappointed in me because of what you’re asking me to do. I’m sure they won’t forgive me if I go through with it.”
“What about me?” Tears finally spilled from Lorraine’s eyes. She had lost hope.
“But what about me, too? Sorry, Lorraine. I have to go. I still need to clean upstairs.”
