Demitry’s P.O.V.
I threw down the file that my grandfather had sent to me. “How did this happen, Dexter?” I asked Dexter angrily while leaning towards the table. I put my both palms on the table and leaned down. “I have no excuse, sir. The facts that I told you are also right. The driver was not involved in this accident. It was really an accident at his end”, he said and I glared at him while looking at him over my shoulder. “If the driver hadn’t had the knowledge of what was wrong with the truck then how on earth, was he driving the truck?” I almost roared at the end. He flinched at the impact of my tone and lowered his head. I looked back at the point in front of me where I was looking earlier blankly. Whoever had planned this accident had planned very smartly. I knew whatever Dexter was telling me right now was also right.
Warrick and Valerie were not involved in this accident. There were no transactions or any kind of conversation on their phones or anyone with the mafia or any local goons that could lead them to suspicion. It meant that grandpa was right. Someone knew about Mariam being the donor for Rehaana. We had so many enemies and now Mariam was at the top of their hit list. They had tried once and they would try again. I needed to stay alert and do everything to keep the three of them safe and sound. I didn’t want to shift them to our old mansion but that mansion was no less than a castle. My grandfather didn’t like me but he loved Rehaana very much. He would do everything to keep her safe.
“Plan their shifting to the old mansion and secure the villa behind us”, I instructed him. “Yes, sir”, he briefly confirmed my command and went out of the room. I banged the table in anger. I had my suspicion and I knew that they were behind her accident. They tried to kill her because she was the only hope for Rehaana. They wanted to kill her and this was the best way to kill her without being chased by the law. They took Mariam as my weakness too and somehow they were right. She was my weakness and there was no way that I was going to let them hurt her again. I pressed the intercom again. “Come inside”, I commanded and then cut off the line.
“You called, sir”, I heard Dexter again. I wrote the names of the people who they had to investigate. “Investigate their whereabouts and every other thing including how many times they went to the toilet”, I commanded him without looking at him. “I got that sir”, he said and came forward. He took the paper from the table. He was about to go back when I stopped him. “One more thing… investigate Sasha too”, I commanded him again. “Yes, sir”, he said and I closed my eyes. I needed to calm myself down first if I really wanted to think rationally. “There is something that I need to tell you, sir”, I heard him again. I only nodded my head as I didn’t want to open my eyes.
“Ms Wilson visited Dr Reynold’s hospital frequently in the past two months. She is investigating about your health there”, he told me and I opened my eyes this time. I stood up straight and moved towards him. “What do you mean?” I asked him while narrowing my eyes. He came towards me and gave me the file that he had in his hand. “I got this file from Liam a few minutes ago. You have to see this”, he said and I took the file from him. I opened the file and my eyes narrowed on the content of the file. She actually spying on me. “She tried to bribe a few staff there to get the information on you and Mariam too”, he told me further as I read the file.
“So she is still curious about me, huh?” I said in a mocking tone. “She is actually interested in Mariam more than you, sir. This is what Liam told me”, he said and I looked at him while flipping the page. “What about her and Oliver?” I asked while flipping the pages. “They are now living together in his penthouse. Last week, she bought a very expensive jewellery set and according to Liam, they had a huge fight over that”, he said and the corner of my lips curled up. I was sure that I would get the news of their separation soon. They came together only to bring me down emotionally and in business too. They didn’t have any idea about Mariam in my life or else they would come up with any other idea than announcing their engagement.
“I will call you again”, I said to him and then went towards my seat. I was calm now but my anger didn’t have been subsidized completely. I put down the file on the table and closed my eyes. I had seen Mariam in her worst condition when I rescued her from those goons inside that forest. I felt sympathy for her but that didn’t affect me as much as I was when I saw her again in the ICU after this accident. She was once again covered in bandages and her body was again attached with wires and pipes. At that time, I felt that someone had snatched my soul and I was scared of losing her. I didn’t sleep until she woke up. I was known for my merciless tactics still they dared to hurt her to that extent. They would pay with their lives for what they did to her.
Suddenly intercom buzzed and I opened my eyes. “Yeah”, I asked Dexter in a calm tone this time. “Mr Victor Davenport is here to see you, sir”, he informed me and I furrowed my eyes. “Escort him here”, I ordered him and then closed the file that he had given to me. I put down the file in the cabinet beside me and locked it. I heard a knock on the door and asked Dexter to come inside. “Demitry”, uncle immediately passed a fake smile. “Uncle”, I only tilted my head a little but didn’t stand up. I could say that he was a bit piss with my action but gulped down the humiliation. He sat down on the chair across the table in front of me. “What brings you here?” I asked him in a cold tone.
“Well…. I am here to talk about the Dubai project”, he said and I sighed aloud while cracking my neck. “I already have told grandpa and Oliver that I am not interested in that project. Oliver can have that project”, I said in a casual but cold tone. He scoffed and then leaned back on the chair while crossing his legs under the table. “I want to know the reason”, he said and I furrowed my brows. “I want to know why you are not interested when it was you who worked hard for this project”, he explained and I leaned forward and put my hand on the table. “I was interested in that project before and now I am not…. What else”, I said once again in a casual tone. He scoffed once again. I was already in bad mood and he was now worsening the situation right now.
“Dad has already told me about your decision but this is not settling in my guts. You must know something that can affect this project later. I want to know that reason”, he said in an annoying tone this time. “I don’t understand what’s your problem here”, I said while tapping on the table with my knuckles now. We both held our gazes as none of us wanted back out. At last, he moves his gaze away. I could see the frustration on his face now. “Fine…. Since you don’t want to take this project…. I will… now you can’t say that I didn’t give you the opportunity”, I said with a word of finality. His eyes immediately widened in shock. “That’s not what I meant”, he immediately yelled but I held my hand high. “Enough chitchat on this topic. I am fed up with your attitude. You can go now. I will inform grandpa that I am taking over this project", I said and then pulled my laptop in front of me.
“Listen to me, Demitry” I heard him saying something more but I was already pissed. I looked at him with a cold gaze and he gulped hard. “W…. we are going to announce Oliver and Sasha’s marriage soon”, he suddenly told me and I narrowed my eyes on him. “Then go ahead”, I said in a careless tone confused why he told me. “I am sure that you don’t have any objection, right?” he said while looking at me as if he wanted me to object. I shrugged my shoulders and asked him, “Should I object?” my question took him off guard as he jerked his head backwards looking at me with wide eyes in surprise. “If I correctly remember, I am already married and my wife is much better than Sasha in every aspect. So… it doesn’t matter to me whether she marry Oliver or someone. For Oliver, he is also not my concern”, I said nonchalantly stating the fact here that he had forgotten.
There was silence in the room as he was only looking at me while blinking hard. “You seriously think that your wife is better than Sasha?” he asked me after a while and I groaned in anger this time. “What are you trying to do here, my dear uncle?” I asked him in a sarcastic tone. He straightened his back and then cleared his throat. “I only want to ensure that you will not create any mess during Oliver’s marriage”, he said with a fake smile on his lips. I scoffed and then leaned back on my chair. “You can rest assured”, I said and gave him a curt nod. One thing that I knew was that he was not here to discuss these two things with me. He must have some other motive that I needed to find.
He stood up and then straightened his suit. “Okay then… I will take my leave and we will discuss about the Dubai project on Saturday with dad”, he said and I moved my gaze on my laptop again. He stayed at his place for a while but I didn’t pay any attention to him. He then huffed and left the office. I looked at the closed door for a while. I pressed the intercom and called Dexter inside. “Yes sir”, he came inside and asked me. “Check this”, I said while moving my laptop towards him. He sat down on the chair where my uncle was sitting before. He frowned while looking at the screen of the laptop. I let out a sigh and closed my eyes while resting my head at the top of the backrest.
“Ask the security to clean this area before I come back. I am heading home”, I said to him and he nodded. None of them except Dexter knew that I had installed a spy camera right above the entrance door that covered the whole area including the area around my table. “Okay sir”, he said and we both stood up from our chairs. We both came out of the room together. He closed the door behind me. “From now on…. None of my family members will enter my room without my permission. Pass my instruction to the whole staff. Whoever disobeys me will not only lose his job, but I will make sure that he will not get the job anywhere too”, I instructed him in a cold tone while walking towards the elevator. He confirmed my instructions before I entered the elevator. It was time to show them what I could really do.
