SHE IS NOT PERFECT

2312 Words
Demitry’s P.O.V. “What were you thinking when you brought her here. I mean…. Look at her. She has no class and the way she was talking with all those old folks, from where you found her attractive and worthy enough to be your wife, huh?” I glared at my uncle who was now badmouthing Mariam openly in front of me. “Look at her. Her face was completely caked in make up. Her neck is stiff as if her face will fall off if she tilts her head a bit. The fake smile on her face is plastered completely. Can you tell me when was the last time when she smiled genuinely?” I asked my uncle while pointing towards his wife who was now acting like a stiff plastic doll while talking with some women in a corner of the hall. My uncle glared at me but didn’t say a word. "At least she can smile genuinely and she has her unique way to express herself. I know that she is not perfect but the best thing is that she is not fake", I looked at my uncle from head to toe once and then finished my glass of wine before giving that back to the server who was standing behind us. "You are making a big mistake by giving her the position of your wife", he again opened his mouth to spit venom. "I am not giving her this position, my dear uncle. She is already my wife. We are already married", I said while looking at her with a pissed expression. He looked at me as if I was going to change my statement soon. I just scoffed and signalled the server to serve me another glass of wine. "I am sure that you have promised her a good fortune. That's why she is flaunting about your and her relationship so easily. You should tell her about your condition (I snapped my head towards him with a cold gaze. He had a mocking smile on his lips right now) so that she could play the role of your wife according to that", he mocked at me and this time I scoffed openly. "There is no need to tell anything that is not relevant now", I said while taking a sip of my wine. I didn't look at him, as I knew what his reaction would be. "You are kidding", he exclaimed with disbelief, and I looked at him with a winning smile on my lips. I didn't need to talk with him about my health and the special condition that I was now facing after that accident. "She is not flaunting anything", I spoke again and sipped wine. I heard him gasping in shock and that filled me with disgust for him. They were happy with my accident but I think fate showed mercy on me and sent Mariam to me. She was not perfect but she was better than any other women present here at this prestigious and high-profile birthday party for my grandfather. She was not fake and there was something special in her personality that everyone looked at ease around her except my family members. "Your grandfather is asking for you, sir", suddenly Dexter informed me from behind. I nodded and then looked at my uncle, who was still in shock. "Excuse me", I excused myself from him and then gave the glass back to Dexter. I then walked towards my grandfather who was still sitting with his group. I knew that he was also going to ask me the same question but I was ready to answer that question without any hesitation. I had my cure and my cure was really beautiful with her innocence. "Grandpa... you called me", I said in a gentle and calm tone when I reached him. My grandfather looked at me and a small smile crept onto his lips. "Yes, Demitry... I called for you. Please have a seat with me. I think we need to discuss something very important", he said and I nodded. I took the chair near him and sat down while putting my ankle on another knee. "Before you ask me anything, I have something to say here", I said in a calm tone, and he gave me a curious look. "She is not lying about our relationship and yes, I am cured", I informed him and his expression immediately changed into the surprised one. There was a short pause between us, but I enjoyed this silence now. "Really?" he asked me with a happy expression filled with surprise and I only nodded. He immediately patted my arm. My grandfather was a cunning fox and I could understand why he was like that. He didn't like me much because of my cold and rude behaviour, but he worried about me as a grandfather should if it comes to any personal stuff. I knew that he was happy for me. "This little wife of yours is your lucky charm, Demitry. You need to keep her beside you at any cost", both of us looked at Mariam who was now laughing at something while walking with some women a bit far from us. All of us were laughing hysterically, gaining the attention of others. "What about Rehaana's condition?" he suddenly asked me in a worried tone and I pursed my lips into a thin line. I looked at Mariam who was still laughing wholeheartedly. It was clear that she was enjoying her time with all those ladies here. "You know that she doesn't have much time. Did you get the donor?" he asked me again and I took a deep breath. "You said a while ago that this little wife of mine is my lucky charm, right grandpa?" I looked at him while swirling my glass in my hand. He raised his brows while trying to process what I said. "No way", he exclaimed, and then looked at Mariam with disbelief. We both were now looking at Mariam who was oblivious of our games on her. "How did you meet her?" he suddenly asked me again and averted his gaze from her to me. I didn't want to give him any details about our first encounter. That was our little secret and I wanted to keep it like that. "You can say that we were destined to meet", I said after a while. Grandpa furrowed his brows but didn't ask anything further. We both then looked around to the party. I found Sasha glancing at me from time to time but that was not my concern now. Oliver was still standing with her wrapping his hand around her waist. "Have you talked to her about Rehaan's condition?" he asked again in a low voice this time and I took a deep breath. I looked down at my glass again which was now almost empty. I signalled a server and he immediately replaced my glass with a filled one. I knew that I shouldn't drink so much. My alcohol capacity was good but I didn't want to be drunk in front of Mariam. She was now growing on me and I could lose my sanity in front of her at any time. "No.... we didn't tell her about this yet but I will tell her soon. Dr Reynold has already told me about Rehaana's condition. Rehaana is not convinced about the operation. She is still in denial", I looked at grandpa this time. He looked annoyed at my revelation. "I will talk to her", he said and I nodded. My eyes narrowed when I saw Oliver leaving Sasha with some businessman and going towards Mariam. I couldn't let him approach Mariam. "What are you thinking about the Dubai project?" I was about to stand up when grandpa asked me a question again and I took a deep breath. I couldn't leave him hanging in between our conversations. "I don't have any interest in that project. You can give that project to Oliver", I said in a careless tone and heard him sigh aloud. "You know that value of that project, Demitry and also the terms of that party. Oliver can't handle this kind of a large project", he immediately showed his disagreement with me. "He also needs to grow if he wants to strengthen his feet here. I think we should give him this chance to prove his ability", I said without removing my gaze from Oliver who was now talking with Mariam. My grip around the glass tightened when I saw him giving a flirtatious smile to Mariam. I put my glass on the table beside the couch and was about to stand when I felt my grandpa's hand around my arm. I looked at him questioningly. "Sit down, boy. Let her handle him. If she has to survive in this family then she has to deal with all kinds of snakes", he said in a bitter tone while looking at them. I knew that he was right here. Mariam might be a strong woman but she was not as devious as all of them. She was now talking with Oliver but I could see that she had maintained her distance from him. Suddenly she raised her hand as if she stopped him in the middle of whatever he was asking her or telling her. She smiled again while retreating her hand and then said something to him with a sweet smile on him. By Oliver's facial expression, I could say that he didn't like her answer at all. "Smart girl", grandpa suddenly complimented her with a smirk. She then walked away from him and walked towards me. She looked at her watch and took a deep breath. I also looked at my watch. It was her time to take her medicine. Her medicine routine was strict and she couldn't delay her schedule. I stood up this time and looked at grandpa. "We are leaving, grandpa. I will come again and then we will talk about the project", I said and bowed a little in front of him. "But it's too soon, son. You have to stay till the end of the party", he insisted while looking at Mariam. "What happened?" she asked me and then looked at grandpa who was looking sad now. I narrowed my eyes at him because now he was acting very well. "He wants to leave", he said in a childish voice almost taking me off guard. "What???? Why? You haven't cut the cake yet", she looked at me with confusion and surprise. "It's time", I showed her the watch and she huffed. "I only need a room for a few minutes", she said and I jerked my head back. "I brought them with me", she whispered at me and I nodded. "Grandpa... I am heading to my room. She needs to rest for a while", I told him. He narrowed his eyes on me but didn't ask anything. He only nodded and then I took Mariam's hand and intertwined our fingers. I knew that he would ask me later and I was ready for that. Her medicines were strong and she needed to lay down for at least half an hour after taking them. That was why I didn't want to stay here. I needed to leave her in the room alone and that was the reason for my worry. "I will be okay. You are worrying to much", she said with a smile while going upstairs with me. I wrapped my hand around her shoulder but didn't say anything. I was surprised to see the security chief Andrew outside my room. "What is it, Andrew?" I asked him in a calm tone. Mariam also looked at him with confusion. "Mr Davenport, Sr asked me to stay here until Mrs Mariam Davenport will leave this room again", he informed me and I nodded. "Please ask someone to bring a glass of water for Mrs Davenport", I requested him and he nodded. "Why do I need someone here if I am alone?" Mariam asked me in confusion and I sighed. "Will tell you later. Let's go", I said and then guided her inside my room here in the mansion. "This is the same as we have in our villa", she said while looking around. I nodded in confirmation. "Am I in danger here if I stay alone?" she asked me again in a low tone this time. I looked at her and without saying a word, only nodded. "Stay here and take rest. Call me if you need anything. Andrew is the trusted one by grandpa and I knew that I can rely on him for your safety", I said and she nodded this time while sitting on the bed. I heard a knock and went to the door. I took the glass and jar from Andrew and he closed the door behind me. I found her lying on the bed. She was rubbing her forehead which made me a bit worried for her. "What's wrong?" I asked her and she opened her eyes. I was now standing near the bed. I put the water jar on the nightstand after pouring a glass of water. "Your brother.... what's his name?" she asked me in an annoying tone and I smiled internally. Now Oliver was on her bad side. "Whatever.... he is a real jerk", she said in a bitter tone and I gave the glass to her. She sat up on the bed and took the glass from me. "I can't tell you how I controlled myself for not punching him", she said and then took the medicine. I guess I need a talk with my cousin now. Mariam was not a violent person but he had irked her so much then it was definitely that needed to taken care of.
