LET ME SAVE HER

2421 Words
Demitry’s P.O.V. “For how long you have planned of avoiding her?” I looked up at Rehaana who was now sitting in my office with me. I didn’t answer her and looked at the file that I needed to review for the next meeting. There was again silence in the room. I could feel her gaze on me, but I didn’t look at her. To be honest, I didn’t know the answer of her question. “You know that she wants to talk with my treating doctor?” she asked me again and I pursed my lips into a thin line. “I know”, I briefly answered her without looking at her. She sighed aloud and I closed the file. I put the file on the table again and then looked at her in defeat. “What do you want, Rehaana?” I asked her in a calm tone but I was now irritated by everything. “All I want is an answer from you. Why are you ignoring her when all you need is her?” she asked me in a calm tone, but I knew the look that she was giving to me. “I don’t want to answer this question and no…. I don’t need her”, I was still in denial as I didn’t want to accept that Mariam was what I needed right now. She didn’t belong to my world and she would be in danger if she stays beside me for a long time period. “Admit it, Demitry that you need her”, Rehaana once again tried to put words in my mouth. I banged my hand on the table and stood up. “I told you that I don’t’ need her. I don’t need anyone. Why can’t you understand these simple words”, I gritted my teeth while yelling angrily. The corner of her mouth twitched but she was not fazed by my outburst. She sighed and then stood up. “I guess then it doesn’t matter to you if she wants to go back”, she said while going towards the door. “What?” I yelled and stormed towards her. “Stop Rehaana… now”, I yelled while almost running towards her. She didn’t stop and was about to open the door when I pulled her towards me through her arm. “What did you say?” I asked her in a raised voice. “Geez…. Are you trying to make me deaf?” she yelled while rubbing her ear. “What did you say? Who wants to go back?” I completely ignored her complaint and asked her in a stern voice this time. “Who else…. Of course Mariam”, she shrugged her shoulders as if it was nothing. My heart started racing inside my chest. “She wants to go back to her town. She said that she has no reason to stay here as we treat her as an outsider”, she said in a flat tone but I could feel hurt in her voice. “You are kidding, right?” I said to her while knitting my brows. She huffed and looked at me with blank eyes. “Do I look like that I am kidding right now? I am serious. She already has something in her mind but she doesn’t want to be here with you and me”, she said with a sigh and removed her arm from my grip. I felt that someone had stabbed my heart badly. This pain was not new to me but it was the strongest. “She feels unwanted here and she thought that she is nothing but a burden on us. She is already in talk with a hospital there”, she said in a sad tone this time. “She can’t do this. She has signed an agreement with me. She has to stay here with me and has to fulfil her duty as my wife whenever I need her”, I said in rage. How could she decide on her own to go back? She can’t leave me just like this. “She is injured and bedridden. She has no use as your wife right now, Demitry. She said that she will be back to fulfil the agreement that she has signed with you. She never denied what you have done for her and she is grateful to you….(I snapped my head towards her)… her words, not mine. She said all these things when I tried to make her understand why she needed to stay here”, she immediately raised her hands in surrender. My mind went blank and I felt that I couldn’t breathe. “She can’t go… I will not let her go”, I said and then stormed out of the room. “Demitry…. Wait… where are you going?” I heard Rehaana yelling at me but I didn’t stop. I needed to see her. I needed to talk to her. There is no way that I would allow her to go away from me. She almost died when I left her there. She had to understand. She couldn’t risk her life like this. “Sir”, I heard Dexter yelling behind me but I was not in a mood to listen to anything. “Sir.. wait”, he yelled again but I didn’t stop and entered my personal elevator. He slipped inside just before the door closed. “Now what?” I yelled at him this time. Couldn’t he understand that I was not in a good mood right now? “I received a call from Mariam a while ago, sir”, he immediately said in a calm voice and I narrowed my eyes on him. Now it was my concern and I was glad that he didn’t stop when I was not listening to him. “She asked me to arrange plane tickets for her and her mother”, he said and I sucked on my breath. I had this doubt before that Rehaana was making stories only to make me anxious so that I go to her but not it was clear that Mariam really wanted to go away. Dexter was the only one of my employees who could call her by her name in private because of the bond that they shared together. She trusted him completely. “When did you get the call?” I asked him in a calm tone this time. “A few minutes before, sir. I also got a call from Dr Reynold. A hospital from her town has approached him for her transfer there. I don’t know what’s going on, sir”, he said in a calm tone but he was also anxious. I pursed my lips into a thin line. It seemed that I and Mariam needed a talk. I didn’t know what was her mind right now but there was no way that I was going to let her go away just like this. She is mine and she had to stay here even if I needed to lock her up. “I will take care of everything. Talk with Dr Reynold and ask him not to pass any information of her to anyone without my clearance”, I said to him and he nodded. “Mr Oliver Davenport has requested your permission to meet Mariam too. He got the news about her accident and now he and his fiancée want to meet her”, he said and I nodded. “Tell him that she is not in a state having guests. We will inform him when she will be better”, I instructed him and he nodded. I came out of the elevator and headed towards my car. Dexter didn’t come out and went upstairs again. My mind was now at haywire. I was not ready to let her go. Heck… I don’t think that I would be ready to let her go away from me ever. She had a grip on my heart that I couldn’t think properly without her. I and Sasha were in a relationship for more than four years still I was not so attached to her like this. Her betrayal left me broken but I never felt so scared that I was right now. Mariam and I were known to each other for not more than sixteen months. Still, she owns my heart. I almost jumped out of the driver’s seat when I reached my mansion. I stormed upstairs towards her room. I didn’t know whether her mother was with her or not. “Is her mother inside?” I asked the bodyguard that I had appointed outside her room. “No sir… she is resting in her room”, he informed and I nodded. I opened the door and locked that behind me. She was lying covering her eyes with her hand. She removed her hand and looked at me. She immediately closed her eyes and I felt a stab in my heart again. She was so cold and distant right now. “You want to go back?” I asked her while going towards her bed. “Yeah”, she didn’t open her eyes while answering me. “Why?” I asked her as I sat down near her on the bed. “I feel suffocated here. I… I … think… it will be better if … I go back to my home. I will come back when I will be properly healed”, she said in a calm tone but the pain in her voice was still evident. She was not good at hiding her emotions in front of me. I gulped down the lump formed in my throat. “Mariam”, I called her in a low and gentle tone this time. “Yeah”, she asked but didn’t open her eyes. I took a deep breath and then intertwined her fingers. It was her injured hand. So, I was careful while moving her fingers. This time she opened her eyes. I could see that she was trying hard to keep her tears back. I was lost at words now. I didn’t know what to say to her right now. We just looked at each other for a while. “Do you really think that I will let you go?” I asked her in a calm tone this time while scooting myself towards her. “I don’t see any reason to stay here in this condition. You already have so much on your plate to deal with and my condition is increasing your problems. I will be okay there”, she said in a  monotonous tone but I shook my head in no. “You are not going anywhere, Mariam and I mean it. I left you once and almost lost you. There is no way that I am risking your life again”, I said while rubbing the back of her hand gently through the pad of my thumb. "Let me go, Dem. I am not needed here right now", she said and I glared at her. She looked away without saying a word. I saw a tear dancing at the corner of her eye. I took a deep breath and cupped her face from another hand. I made her look at me and she immediately closed her eyes again. The pain in her face was something that I didn’t want to see on her face ever. “What’s going on in your tiny brain, Mariam. Tell me”, I asked her while caressing her cheeks. A single tear rolled down from her eye and that was enough for me. I immediately wrapped my hand around her head and put her face in between my neck and shoulder. She didn’t protest and let me hug her. All of a sudden my heart was at ease. There was peace in my mind. I closed my eyes and heard her sniffing. “What is bothering you, Mariam”, I asked her again in a soft tone. “I want to go for the test for Bone Marrow Transplant”, she suddenly said out of the blue. I somehow already anticipated this. She was so caring towards Rehaana that she would not let go of this matter so easily. “You have talked to the doctors there, right?” I asked her and she nodded after a while. I smiled and kissed her forehead. I put my face on her forehead and closed my eyes. “You know the risk”, I said as I was still not convinced with the idea of her being the donor. It was my initial thought when I came to know about her blood type and I already had done the test on her. The tissues were also matched. All we needed to do was to confirm the operation. I was desperate to save my sister and still I was but I couldn’t use her just like this now. I loved her and even Rehaana loved her so much that she didn’t want to harm her for a selfish reason. “You know what she means to me, Dem. I can’t let her die on my watch. If… if I have to give the last drop of my blood to save, I won’t hesitate. She may be your sister, but she is also a friend to me. I can’t let her die if I know the cure. If you want me to stop, I dare you”, she said in a cracked voice, but the threat was completely obvious to me. I smiled and I couldn’t tell what I felt right now. She was not related to us still she wanted to do everything that she could do to save Rehaana. No one cared about me and my sister so much before. Her few words broke the dam in my heart that I had pulled inside my heart. My grip tightened around her head. “Please … let me save her. She is young. She deserves to live her life. She deserves to stay alive”, she was now crying while pleading with me. “I love you, Mariam Davenport and you know this right”, I suddenly said without even thinking. I felt her smiling while crying.
