PROMISE HE MADE

Third Person’s P.O.V. “Did you get the information on her that I asked you?” I asked my man who was standing in front of me with a file in his hand. “Yes Sir… here are the complete details of her”, he handed me the file and opened it. I signalled him to brief me and I started reading whatever he got about her. “Her full name is Mariam Lockhart. She is from Auburndale, Queens. She is 23 and lives with her mother. Her father died due to illness when she was only 7 years old. She is a wildlife photographer by profession. She came here on a vacation with her fiancée Warrick Roberts, an Accountant by profession and working in a reputed firm there. Her cousin Valerie Ranger is an Interior Designer by profession and she works as a freelancer. They both betrayed her and paid a good amount of money to a local gang here to kidnap her and kill her. The reason why they planned this k********g is that Mariam has a joint account with Warrick that holds some million and a joint property that also worth some million left by her father to her”, he paused and I twitched my lips in amusement. Once again someone was betrayed by her dear ones because of money. What a thing that men made the money is? I chuckled and closed the file. She was indeed a beautiful and innocent woman who wanted nothing but a normal life with a loving husband and a few children. I looked at the screen where I saw her lying on her bed. She was still on heavy anaesthesia because of her state. She was almost dead when I saved her from the forest bed. “Keep eyes on her fiancee and her friend. Inform me about their next move. Also, pass a message to her mother that her daughter is safe and also that her life is in danger so not tell anyone about she receive the message”, I instructed him and he nodded immediately. He went out of the room and I leaned down on the sofa where I was sitting right now. I looked at the closed file on my lap. The same money that betrayed me years ago had betrayed this woman. I didn’t know whether she knows the truth about her k********g or not. I hoped that she knows because then it would be possible for her to get her life on track easily. I saw her crying silently whenever she came back to her sense. The doctor had already told me that she was not s*xually abused and it was only a good thing that had happened with her. She was completely covered in the bandages and she didn’t know but she had lost her eyesight too. It was temporarily according to the doctor yet none of us had told her that she was temporarily blind. She once asked me how I could work in the darkness so easily. I wanted to tell her that it was not me who was working in the darkness but I let her think like that. I had some plans for the future and I wanted her to work with me. I needed her help and I wished that she agrees to help me. It had been almost three months that I had her here. She was healing good still a long way to go. Time to visit her now. I saw her groaning that meant she was awake. I took the medical box with a bottle of water from the refrigerator and then went towards her room. I opened the room and went straight to the bed where she was lying now covered with wires and pipes. Her whole body was numb so that she couldn’t feel a thing and this was the only thing that was keeping her sane otherwise she would have died till now due to pain.   Mariam’s P.O.V. I didn’t know who was taking care of me and what his intention was by keeping me here in this dark place. All I knew was that someone came to me every day. He fed me, changed my bandages, gave me medicine but I was not able to see him because of the darkness around me. Sometimes I freaked out about that person because it was impossible for a human to work so efficiently in darkness. I wanted to talk to him but was not able to speak so much because my throat hurt so much. “A…are you… here?” I asked when I heard his footsteps. I guess my other senses other than my eyes were working efficiently now as I could hear better than before or might be due to the silence all around me. Sometimes I heard a faint beeping sound around me but I never saw anything around me. It was clear that I was not in the hospital room because the mattress was soft. The disinfectant smell is also not as strong as it happens to be in the hospital. As always, he didn’t answer me. He lifted my head a little up and I felt the coldness of a tumbler. I drank the water greedily as my throat was “Slowly, you will hurt your throat”, he whispered in a cold but gentle voice. I smiled while drinking the water. He always spoke whenever he felt speaking. He never answered my question. The thing that put me in an uncomfortable situation was that I was not able to feel his touch too. “I am going to change your bandages”, he told me and I nodded. We both were again silent. I knew that he would never answer me. So, there was nothing that I could ask him right now. I felt something moving on my body but didn’t feel the pain much. He once told me that I was severely injured. It might be possible that he had given me something that was keeping my body numb so that I couldn’t feel the pain. It was the only valid reason that I could think this time according to the circumstances that I had right now. “You are healing better. I am sure that soon you will be as good as you were before”, he spoke again in her cold yet gentle voice. I smiled and replied, “Cr…dits goe..s to..you”. It was really hard to stay silent when I was a very talkative person. I felt a touch on my nose. I guess he brushed his finger on my nose. His touch was as cold as his voice was but it made me feel safe. “It’s time to eat”, he said and I smiled again. I didn’t know about the time that I had spent here till now. He always gave me something in liquid. I craved for something solid but I guess my throat was not ready to get anything in solid. I felt my body lifting a bit up and then heard his voice again. “Open your mouth slowly”, he instructed me again and I sighed. I opened my mouth and something warm touched my lips at first and then my tongue. It was a bit sour but tasted good. The warmth of the soup caressed my throat too. He fed me in silence again. I guess he was a kind of reserved person who didn’t like to talk much. He wiped my lips a few times in the middle of feeding me. I wanted to ask him so much but I couldn’t. We finished eating after I didn’t know how much time. He then made me drink water again. He then gave me medicine and patted my cheek lightly as if I was a porcelain doll who would break if he touched harder than this. “Rest now… you need a lot of rest”, he said and then I felt his cold lips on my forehead. It was a friendly gesture since the beginning he started taking care of me. I inhaled sharply and his perfume invaded my nostrils. He smelt like fresh rain and I like this smell of him. I heard footsteps going away from me. I closed my eyes again. It didn’t matter whether my eyes were open or close. The room stayed dark anyways. I only wanted to know what happened to my mom. Was she okay? Did she try to find me? What lie they weave to feed everyone? There were so many questions in my mind but I needed to wait to get the answer until I got healed. My saviour once told me that he would help me go back to my home once I heal completely. I wished that he stays on his words and help me in the future. Soon, I was drifting in my dreamland again where I could see whatever I wanted to see.
