AMARA'S POV
Air swooshed out of my lungs, replaced with ashes and mist. I opened my mouth to drag in air, but it got worse, as I watched Kelvin walk the length of the car park, his hands snaked around Eva's waist— Lisa's twin sister.
Kelvin hadn't said a single word to me since last night, didn't return my numerous texts and calls. I guess he was ‘busy’ with something more important.
I pushed down on the button when Damira grabbed my hands, “What do you think you’re doing?” Her solemn voice made me feel more pitiable than intended. I couldn't decipher if she was angry. “Everyone in the school knows how much of a flirt he is. Heard he went to Hart’s party with Lisa, wondering why he's with her twin sister.”
My heart shattered like a sharp knife was stabbed into it, slicing it into tiny shreds. I pushed back the tears that almost slipped from my eyes, and pressed down on the open button. “f**k this!” I got out of the car and stomped off before Damira would get a hold of me.
“s**t!” She cussed under her breath, and stepped down. “Amy! Stop you don't have to—” Damira halted mid-sentence when she realized it was too late. By the time she could catch up with me, I'd double-crossed the duo, blocking him from getting into his car.
Kelvin arched his eyebrows at me, his face brooked no guilt. “Amy, what has come over you.” his tone was a whisper, “Move out of the way.” He warned.
My heartbeat doubled. Anger sang in my veins at his indignation. “Even if you wanted to do something this stupid, you could have chosen any other girl, not my damn cousin.”
I didn't want to give either Lisa nor her equally rude sister an air of superiority over me. But this…this hit too close to home. Betrayal dug deep into my nerves and my hands trembled with the urge to slam my hands in their faces.
Eva hissed. “And why do you think I give a flip about how you feel?” She locked her arms in his and pasted a kiss on his cheeks, “I and Kelvin have been going out for a while now and it's just normal we make it official, after your show of shame last night.”
I scoffed. “You stupid fool!” Gosh! Amy, get a hold of yourself. I can't. Even if I wanted to, this was too much for me to handle all at once.
I opened my mouth to speak but couldn't utter a single word. Holding eye contact with Kelvin was like walking on broken glass, barefoot. It was one thing to bump into your boyfriend cheating and another, for him to act unbothered.
“For Pete's sake, I am recovering from the pain of not getting my wolf.”
He shrugged. “It's nobody's fault that you're rather unfortunate,” The indignation in his tone perked up. “Look Amy, you're cute and all of that, but as we grow older with responsibilities to not just ourselves but the pack and family business…”
Blah. Blah. Blah. I zoned out of his talks. The PDA’s, the dinner with his parents. Christmas was few weeks away and he'd planned to mark me as his mate. He'd thrown all of that down the abyss, obviously.
“---So you think I'm a failure too?”
Eva grunted, slapping her forehead. “My goodness, isn't that supposed to be the rhetorical question of the year?”
Damira snarked. “Eva, one more silly word from you and I'll make you eat dust.”
They were all scared of Damira. Time and time again, she'd shown them who the boss was and earned her respect. I would beat both Eva and Lisa at sparring but they usually clung to their wolf before I got a chance to strike.
Eva flinched and murmured under her breath. Damira perked her head to the side, “I'm sorry what did you just say?”
“Nothing.”
She sighed, “Thought as much,” Her eyes shot daggers right through Kelvin's head, “Amy do you have something else to say?”
I pressed my lips together, to control my thumping heart. I sniffled, “Just one—”
“Did you ever love me?”
He feing a really fake smile, I almost forgot I was about to break up with my boyfriend and almost bursted into laughter. With that smile, he looked like a clown.
“I used to, when I had faith you would break out of this and get a wolf,” He tsked. “I guess I was wrong, the only thing you're good at is spending time reading up recipes for tea and cakes, nobody wants to be with someone who is irrelevant.”
A punch landed on Kelvin's jaw and he groaned in pain. Damira cheered, and I realized, my fist had moved faster than my thoughts.
“Now that's what I'm talking about,” She hissed. She lurched towards Eva and slapped her hard on the cheeks before the girl had a chance to escape, “That's for hurting your own cousin,”
Hands and screams flew before the security came in to salvage the situation. A nasty smirk lined my cheeks when I saw Kelvin's nose bleeding. I wasn't that bad afterall. Eva on the other hand was a mess. Bloody nose, purple eyes and a few loose buttons that exposed her chest. She gritted her teeth, shivering as she glared at us. Too bad she couldn't get a good punch in, before the security came in.
I and Damira were taken into the principal's office, while Eva and Kelvin went to get some first aid.
“I'm sorry Damira,” I broke the silence.
She scrunched her nose, “It's been long I flexed my hands,” our little chat was cut off by the sound of stilettos clicking against the tiles.
Mrs Walsh the school principal and a gamma known to have a stealth wolf, strutted in. Dressed in a green suit gown she looked every inch ready to put us in detention. Thank goodness, our Dad was the Alpha. We had to have some sort of protection right?
She clapped her hands, “Listen up girls, I don't have all day,” Mrs Walsh paced the perimeter of the waiting area, in the corner of her office, “I had the perfect, perfect punishment to give to you. But the Alpha decided to come in himself—”
I and Damira exchanged perplexed looks, before we both shifted our gaze to the petite woman. “Dad is here!” We gasped.
A wicked smirk tipped the corner of her lips. She tipped her head sideways. We trailed her gesture and our eyes landed on a bulky figure standing by the door. Dad's face looked pale, I couldn't make out his emotions.
Blood drummed violently in my ears, and I almost feared I'd have a heart attack. I quickly broke eye contact, and stared hard on the floor hoping it would open up and swallow me whole.
“Come with me.” His tone was quiet, with a streak of warning.
