Chapter 03: The Fruit of The Past
“Elliot, you’re such a bad liar, Love,” as he spoke those words, Elliot can’t help but tighten his fist. “Look at you. Working here at the poor, unorganized coffee shop where your manager stole your salary for straight two months,” he said. It made Elliot’s jaw fell. Tomás walked closer to him. He was wearing his sweet smile that once captures Elliot’s heart. He caressed his face.
“Tell me the words I want to hear, Love. I promise. The future of you and our son will be much brighter in my hands. Say the truth now,” said Tomás. “Don’t worry. I can still accept your love for me even if you have f****d over and over by that, Bryan bastard. Just apologize and beg for my forgiveness. Maybe then, I can accept it,” he added.
‘Still the same Tomás,’ he said mentally. “Look, Tomás,” pausing himself as he took a deep breath. Realizations and obstacles made him stronger and wiser than he was before. Elliot was fixing his old rusty and ragged clothes as he faked a smile at him.
“We are living differently since before. You’re up there, and I’m here down low. I dreamed of my life to change for good, but since I stepped on your company,” he stopped and let out a bitter chuckle. “Little did I know that my life would be pushed to the pits of hell and thanks to you,” the sarcasm of his voice is making Tomás angry and guilty. Elliot looked heavenwards and tried hard, fighting his tears from rushing down.
“My Baby and I would be safe as long as we are far away from you. Look at what you caused me,” the arrogant man eyed the poor Elliot. He saw how far he is before.
The smiling face and the bright aura have faded away. “Get the hell out of here, and don’t you dare call my son yours because, in the first place, it wasn’t you, who’s the father,” Elliot lied and said it with full of confidence as he intentionally bumped Tomás’s arm. But what made him stop his tracks is when he spoke. Tomás tittered.
“I am his Daddy, and I am your Baby Daddy, Elliot,” he said. Tears were falling from his eyes. “Don’t worry. I’ll get you and Hugo back. One day soon, we’ll be one happy family,” he leaned forward to Elliot and stole a kiss on his rosy-pink lips. Both feel each other’s lips. No one moved. It was magical and yet longing.
“I-I... l-lo,” Tomás paused. “I have to go,” he said. He almost said the words that might change their lives forever. He rushed exiting the store and hopped into his luxurious fancy car. Elliot, on the contrary, froze. But... he is feeling something about him.
Something that would repeat history.
*****
It was Sunday. A day where Elliot could spend the day with his son. As he went home last night, he cried silently as his heart was clenched tightly in loneliness and pity. Elliot saw Hugo sleeping peacefully on the old and rugged bed, sucking his pacifier. He was confident that his son ate on time with the help of Bryan. Bryan was the son of his landlord. Who had fallen deeply in love with Elliot.
He always volunteered to babysit Hugo whenever he is going to work. Bryan was a graduate of business and finance. Three years older than Elliot. He never asked for any p*****t from him, but he is praying and asking that Elliot let him enter his life. He was willing to be the father of his child. But Elliot wasn’t ready to allow another man to enter his life. He had enough, and he had hardly played enough.
“Good morning, Baby,” greeting his child as the rays of the sun were hitting the kid’s face. Elliot was holding a birthday cake for his son. Hugo’s eyes glistened with happiness as he looked at the flavored strawberry cake with a candle of number two on top of it.
“Happy Birthday, my Hugo,” Elliot said. The kid happily got out of the bed as he was clapping his hands. He then rushed, hugging his Mom. “Good morning, too, Mommy. I love you,” the usual greeting he always received from his son.
“I love you more, Baby. Blow your candle now so that we can eat our breakfast,” he said. He bends down, moving closer to the cake to his son’s mouth. Hugo closed his eyes and wished silently. The kid hoped that his Mom, Elliot, would be genuinely happy at all times. Hugo was not selfish nor a prick to him.
Elliot was lucky that his son’s character came from him and not his. Hugo blew the cake and beamed a smile as Elliot was singing him a happy birthday song. The kid squeaked in excitement as he saw his Uncle Bryan holding three boxes of gifts.
“Wow! Is that for me, Uncle Bryan?” asked Hugo. Little did he know that the cake also came from him as Elliot’s salary wasn’t handed to him. Bryan nods and smiled at the kid and gives the gifts. “This is all for you, little guy. I hope this would make you happy,” he said. Elliot was in tears as he saw how Hugo was delighted.
He then looked at Bryan and said, “Thank you, Bry. I’ll pay you when I got my salary.” Bryan shook his head and dangled his arm to Elliot’s neck. He smells the fresh and manly scent of his body and his deodorant. It was attracting him, but Elliot resisted the temptation hard.
“No biggies, Elliot. I’ll help you as long as I’m here,” he beamed a smile.
But what Bryan wanted to say is that he is more than ready to be Elliot’s partner. He believed that the time would come soon, and they will share the same roof with the same love. They all sat down in the table’s chair. “Enjoy your meal, Baby,” said Elliot. Hugo widely smiles at his Mom as his eyes roamed to the food on the table. He can’t help but wonder.
“Mommy? Why am I eating the fried chicken all alone while you and Uncle Bryan is eating porridge?” there was worry on the kid’s tone. It is true.
“A-Ah. Your Uncle Bryan and I already ate chicken while you are asleep. So, that chicken will be all yours, right, Bryan?” he lied as he looked at Bryan while giving him a small wink. Bryan then stuttered. He can’t stand lying to the kid, but it was for the betterment of the whole.
“Ye-Yes, Hugo. Your Mom was right. We already ate the fried chicken while you’re asleep. In fact, your Mom let me share his chicken,” he winked at the kid, causing it to tease his Mom.
