Kai
“My name is Kai Seabrooke,” I state while eyeing the two of them. My eyes flick to the map the short man had just placed on the counter. “I’m going to need that map.”
The woman snorts and rolls up the map, “Well, I was here first.”
I stare at her. There is something about her drawing me to her. She is quite beautiful with her short brown hair and ice blue eyes. But there is something else, like I can sense something deep within her. I shake my head and eye the map in her hand. “I need to find my mother and sister. The giant Xaclos has them.”
The woman slides off the stool and places some money on the counter, “Thank you,” she says to Rainer. She looks right at me as she tries to slink out the door, but I block her. A low, menacing growl comes from her.
A chill runs up my spine as I watch her eyes darken, turning almost black. I gulp. For the last week since I left home, I have been fighting off monsters that just want to kill me for existing. I wonder what sort of monster she is.
“If you two are going to fight, please take it outside,” Rainer says.
“I have to get going,” the woman mumbles and brushes past me.
I watch her leave the bar. For a second, I was unsure of what to do next until I heard a motorcycle start up. “s**t,” I mutter and run out the door. I see her on a bike and run towards her, but she guns it and speeds off. “s**t,” I curse again. I step back into the bar, and Rainer is calmly cleaning the counter. “Is that the only map you had?”
He slowly nods, “Yep.”
“Let me guess,” I sigh. “It’s the only way to get to the realm.”
“Not the only way,” Rainer shrugs. “But it shows the quickest way there; otherwise, you’ll be doomed to wander for decades,” He explains.
“What do you suggest I do?” I ask.
“I suggest you go after her,” Rainer smirks.
“Do you have a vehicle?” I ask.
“Nope,” He responds.
I sigh and hear a few motorcycles outside the bar. Seconds later, several muscular men in leather ambled into the bar.
“Hey, Rains,” One of them barks. “Beers for my buds,” He demands.
“Coming right up, Rip,” Rainer responds.
I eye the bikers for a moment.
“What are you staring at, boy?” The man growls at me. “I ain’t no gay.”
I wrinkle my nose as I formulate a plan. I quietly wander out of the bar and spy their bike parked out front. “Should I?” I mutter.
“You should,” A man with long dreads and a dark complexion wearing all black appears beside me. “Sabre is going to need your help,” he says, handing me a set of keys. “That one,” He points at a black bike with skulls all over it.
“Uh, thanks,” I say to him. “Who are you?” I ask, only to see he has disappeared. I hop on the bike and start it up. “Which way?” I ask.
‘Go west,’ A voice says in my head. It sounds like the man who just gave me the keys.
The bike roars as I gun it down the road. I must find that woman. She is my only hope in finding my mother and sister.
I pass through the small town and out into the country past fields full of cattle and sheep. The smell of a feedlot makes me gag. I pray that I am heading in the right direction. The fields turn to thick woods. Up ahead, several SUVs were parked by the side of the road. I slow down and see her bike crashed in a ditch.
Sighing, I stop and look around. I am startled by howls and a scream coming from the woods. Something tells me to go towards the scream, so I take off running.
“Leave me alone, Brandon,” I hear the woman from the bar yell.
I come to the clearing to see her surrounded by several large wolves. The largest, a black one, has her backed up against a tree as she resists him.
The wolf growls and turns into a naked, muscular man with red hair. “You are mine, Sabre,” The man growls again.
“Werewolves,” I whisper to myself. I had heard of them but had never seen them in person.
“I don’t have time to be your Luna,” Sabre swats at him and goes to grab her.
“Hey!” I shout, distracting the men and the wolves.
The one I assume is Brandon nods at the wolves, who all turn their attention to me. “Take care of him,” Brandon orders.
Sabre is staring at me while trying to fight off Brandon. She punches him, and he lunges at her.
The wolves approach me, and I thrust my hand out, shooting a powerful stream of seawater that knocks them off their feet. They all whimper from being hit and drenched.
Sabre is still trying to get away from that Brandon guy. “Just leave me alone, Brandon,” she pleads.
“You are my mate,” Brandon roars.
Sabre stumbles to the ground, and Brandon goes to grab her, but I shoot another stream of seawater at him. It sends him flying. I run over to Sabre and pick her off the ground.
“Come on,” I say to her, and we run back towards the road with the wolves on our heels. “Do I dare ask what that is all about?”
“No,” Sabre answers.
We get back to the road, and she looks at her bike.
“s**t,” She kicks it. “It’s wrecked.”
I point at my bike, “Mine is okay.”
Sabre grabs a duffle bag from her bike.
“Do you have the map?” I wonder.
“Yes,” she says. “Help me get away from them and we’ll share the map,” Sabre suggests as the wolves howls echo from the woods.
“Come on,” I hold my hand to her, and it tingles when she touches it.
She climbs behind me, and I start the bike just as the wolves break through the woods.
“Hold on!” I shout and gun the bike. Sabre wraps her arms around my waist and holds tight. I glance back, and the SUVs speed our way. I accelerate the bike, and the other vehicles fall behind. I looked ahead, and a black wolf is blocking the road. “s**t!” I yell and nearly collide with it.
“He won’t stop,” Sabre mutters.
I managed to get around the wolf without wrecking. The bike groans, and the road becomes rough, making it difficult to control at high speed. The wolf is right behind us. “How is he so fast?”
“He’s an alpha,” Sabre responds.
The wolf snaps its jaws at my legs, and I swat at it. There is a lake ahead, and I breathe a sigh of relief.
“Okay, Mr. Wolf,” I mutter, gun the bike towards a bridge, and stop halfway.
“What are you doing?” Sabre shouts.
I say nothing as I thrust out my hand and feel the water beneath us. The wolf charges toward me, I flick my wrist and a wave of water crashes over the bridge washing the wolf over the side and into the water. He howls sadly as we take off again.
“Wow, that was amazing,” Sabre remarks.
We drive for a few hours before finally stopping at a truck stop. Sabre climbs off the bike, slumps over to the building, and sits on the ground against the wall. There are tears in her eyes as she looks up.
“So, that guy and the others were werewolves,” I say as I sit beside her.
“Yes,” she nods.
“Are you a werewolf?” I ask.
She nods, “What are you?”
I eye her, “A demigod.”
“My mom is a demigod,” She mentions.
“And Xaclos took her,” I state.
“Yes,” Sabre nods.
"Xaclos took my mother and sister," I mention.
"So, I guess we are working together," She states.
"I guess so," I nod.
