I didn’t feel tired at all on my drive into work, at least not at first. I was experiencing two opposite emotions at the exact same time – the magical, disorienting euphoria of sleeping with Jackie Cole after all these years, of seeing those beautiful eyes of hers aimed just at me, and the nauseating anxiety of knowing that there was no way I could possibly hang on to her.
If I somehow succeeded in protecting her long enough for her to achieve her goal and get out of the UT, she’d be gone forever.
