CHAPTER 16

418 Words
At the break of dawn, Zacharias Blackwood decided to leave Greenhill immediately. He might be unconscious earlier, but everything was recorded in his memory. Before venturing into Greenhill, it was his mission to discover if the legend was true, and since he learned the sad truth about it, he didn’t want anyone else to know.               He could be the black sheep in his family, but Zacharias Blackwood was a man with the purest heart. George Blackwood would usually tease him every night because there’s no way he would go to sleep without saying his prayer. He was a believer in God, yet it wasn’t enough to stop him from transforming into a werewolf under the full moon. He tried to subdue the powers of the dark, but the demonic forces were more potent.             When he saw the woman lying on the ground beside him, he assumed he had killed her! He was taken aback when he discovered that the ancient legends about the wolves in Greenhill were true, and he was scared of himself when he transformed into a lycanthrope.             His men were preparing the horses when Thomas Montgomery arrived. Zacharias said his greeting to the Duke and informed the man about his sudden decision to leave. He couldn’t afford another person to see him in his hideous form, and he believed that Bridgette Montgomery wouldn’t be able to speak a word about it to anyone else…after all, the woman was living in sin with Thomas Montgomery.             “It’s still dark, Your Grace. Why don’t you wait until the sunrise, and I will ask the cook to prepare our breakfast?”             Zacharias Blackwood smiled at Thomas Montgomery before he signalled his men to be on their horse immediately. “I appreciate the hospitality, Your Grace, but I can no longer extend my stay in Greenhill. I am not feeling well, and it’s best to recuperate in my own home,” he reasoned out.             “I understand. Please be careful on your way home, Your Grace.”             Zacharias nodded his head, but before he climbed onto his horse, he squinted his eyes at Thomas Montgomery. “I will gladly appreciate it more if you can thank the lady for me,” he said.             “Rest assured, Your Grace.”             “We are going now,” Zacharias said. Before Thomas Montgomery could respond, he immediately urged his horse to go forward. With one last look at Greenhill, he wished not to encounter the woman named Bridgette Montgomery in the future.
