Bridgette went to confront the King, but the poor excuse of a father who wanted her back in his life refused to have a conversation with her. With the man’s behaviour, she believed that Lucienne had told her the truth. The King lied to her to get her out of Greenhill. However, what was the reason?
Since she grew up in the palace, until one of her father’s concubines plotted something against her mother, Bridgette was familiar with every nooks and corner. There were no significant changes in the interior design of the King’s residence, so she was optimistic that her Uncle Thomas was nearby. Hence, she tried knocking on each door to search for her uncle when nobody replied to her inquiry about the man’s accommodation.
She failed to find the man who convinced her to return to the palace because that’s where she belonged, and she felt lost inside the castle walls. Although there were thousands of people nearby, she missed her uncle, and she was dying to have a conversation with him or probably convince him that they would return to Greenhill.
Bridgette paced back and forth inside her cubicle while thinking of a concrete solution for her dilemma. She wanted to return to her uncle's residence, but several guards on standby watched her every move since she was reinstated as a princess. She couldn’t even go to another part of the castle without the group, and it wasn't delightful! She was pissed!
When it was time for dinner, she lied about being indisposed because she didn’t want to disturb her concentration. She was warned about the dangers in the palace, so with the absence of her UUncle, she wasunclehensive. She couldn’t even blink her eyes and just stared at the door. She couldn’t risk being in danger!
“Don’t you know how to knock?” Bridgette screamed when she saw a woman enter without asking for permission first. She could tell that she’s been working as a servant in the royal household based on her clothing. “What is that?” She asked about the tray that the woman was carrying.
“It is your dinner, milady.”
“Did my words mean anything to those people? I clearly said that I had no appetite to have my dinner,” she murmured, her disappointment that her voice was powerless inside the castle. As she looked at the servant who couldn’t lift her head, she immediately felt sorry towards her. “I didn’t mean to scold you. What’s your name?”
“Camilla,” she replied in a low voice.
“Alright, Camilla. You must be aware that I came here with my uncle, but I couldn’t find him now. Did he join the dinner?” She inquired, and Camilla bit the bottom of her lip as if she had something to tell but was so afraid to speak. “Rest assured, and they will never know that the information came from you.”
“Prince Thomas was banned from the palace for the time being,” Camilla replied.
“Banned? Until when?”
“Until the wedding.”
When Camilla mentioned the wedding, she smiled bitterly because there’s no doubt that it was the wedding of Lucienne and Zacharias Blackwood. “It must be a grand wedding,” she commented, and Camilla just nodded her head.
“Yes, milady.”
“You can go now and just leave me alone,” she ordered, but Camilla shook her head in response.
“The King ordered me to stay at your side all the time,” she replied.
Bridgette laughed at the predicament she was in. It’s only her first day in the castle, but the people living there are treated like prisoners! “Are you saying that whenever I go, you have to be with me?”
“Yes, milady.”
Bridgette took a deep breath before opening her mouth to speak. “You seem to be a woman with a kind heart, Camilla, so I have nothing against you. However, I don’t think it’s fair,” she said.
“What do you mean, milady?”
“I have to speak with the King right now,” she decided before strolling towards the door. She believed that if they couldn’t afford to give her the same treatment and courtesy that her younger sister enjoyed, then there’s no point in staying in the castle.
“The King ordered us to stop you from leaving this quarter, milady.”
