Chapter One

692 Words
Five creatures-dressed in armor made of bone-jumped down from the trees, landing in front of the teens. They were all huge, standing at about 7ft their bodies putting a bodybuilder to shame. The one standing in front of the girl looked like a hyena, the others all leopards. I'm going to die.     Fear paralyzed her body, rendering her immobile as the creature reached for her. He placed his furry hands on her hips and lifted her until she was at eye level with it. It inspected the girl, checking for something.     She finally gained enough control and was able to turn her head. The other creatures tossed the other teens over their shoulders and headed back into the dark, humid forest. The girl’s gaze snapped back to the one that held her and she began to struggle. She had-no needed to getaway. To get to my family.     It's grip on her tightened and she yelped in pain. The struggling didn't stop. No, it only increased. The creature snarled and his teeth lengthened, his green eyes glowing brighter. She began to kick him and claw at his hands.     “Let me go!"     He growled and sucked in a deep breath. She froze and stared. What is he-     He released a booming roar and her hands flew to her ears. Her body trembled and the ground shook. She began to feel lightheaded, fear jumping to a whole new level. Black webs weaved throughout her vision, consuming her mind and taking her captive. -------------------------------------     Her body swayed, her arms dangling and moving side to side. She felt a rough hand on her left thigh and something dug painfully into her stomach. What is-     Her eyes shot open and she was greeted by bone covered legs and the ground. She heard laughter and growling behind her and her heart seemed to stop. Oh God no. She began to beat her fists against the creature’s back as she tried to wiggle out of his grip. Her efforts were useless though. It was like trying to find the color red on a piece of white paper. Completely and utterly idiotic and useless.     She began to tire and soon her body went lax, too tired to struggle. As her eyes stared at the leaves and twigs on the ground she saw shadows and even a few paws. God help me... Her life was in God's hands now. The choice to decide how it went was ripped away from her and she prayed God got a hold of it before for someone else.     She was lifted up and placed on the ground, forced to kneel before a row of three large tents made of animal fur. The one in the middle was the biggest. She was kneeled at the end of a horizontal line, her shoulder occasionally brushing against the older girl beside me. She looked at me and gave me a weak smile. The young girl didn't return it though. She merely let out a shaky breath and looked at the ground.     The sound of heavy footsteps neared them and her body quaked with each step, the fear eating away at her. She began to mutter a prayer, the words unintelligible due to how fast and shaky she was saying each word.     She quieted as the female beside her was lifted, her sobs echoing throughout the night as she was carried off. What are they going to do to her? She squeezed her eyes shut, her body violently trembling.     What are they going to do to me?     She felt a light breeze cascade on her bowed head and she stopped breathing, her brain frozen, unable to contemplate her predicament. She felt a finger grip her chin and turn her head in different angles. It was inspecting her. Why?     She shrieked as she was suddenly lifted by her arm, the creature forcing her to stand. She still kept her eyes closed, fearful of what she’d see if she were to open them. It pulled her, away from its fellow monsters. Away from the light and into the dark, toward her doom. God, protect me.
