Chapter 11 IT WAS ONLY JUST LIGHT when Nellie woke to someone touching her shoulder. She opened her eyes to see that Henrik had kneeled next to her. He held his finger to his lips and said, “The boy is gone.” Nellie pushed herself up. “What do you mean?” Next to her, Hilde was still asleep. Henrik whispered, “The boy. Bruno. He’s gone.” “Are you sure?” “I can’t see him anywhere. We were supposed to start training.” “Maybe he got really keen.” Bruno had not complained as much about getting up early recently. “I don’t think so.
