Chapter 1 - Sasha - 1 Year Ago
It felt as though I had been washing up for hours. Well it had been hours but somehow it still felt like longer than that, maybe days or weeks. How the heck did one household make so much mess? As though I didn’t have anything better to do on my Saturday than spending the whole day cleaning up after their lazy butts.
I knew that as an omega in this pack my fate was already sealed, but I at least thought that they might wait until I graduated from high school in a couple of months. I was wrong. The moment I turned eighteen I was assigned my role as a maid in the alpha’s mansion and expected to work every evening and weekend until I left school and could take on more hours.
While other people in my class spent their evenings watching the hottest tv show or talking about the hottest guy in class, I was stuck here making the hottest casserole. Many nights I didn’t even get home till 11pm and then I had to make a start on my homework so that I wouldn’t fall behind. It was exhausting.
Most of the other omegas my age have already dropped out of school due to the pressure, but I was determined not to follow that trend. I had plans for my life and they didn’t include remaining here and being a maid for the rest of my life. I was going to escape this piece of s**t pack and make something of my life, and there was going to be nothing they could do to stop me.
“Sasha, I didn’t know you would be working here today.” Jasper purred from somewhere behind me.
“Why would you?” I replied without turning to face him.
Jasper Hartford was so arrogant that he was probably completely unaware of everyone else around him. That is unless he wanted to screw them, in that sense it was probably a very bad sign that he knew my name. He was almost a whole year younger than me but that wouldn’t be enough to stop him from trying something. He has already screwed half the girls in my year at school.
“You should tell me. Better yet, you could agree to spend some time with me after you finish work.”
I glanced over towards the door where Jasper was standing, he was leaning against the door frame as though it was beneath him to actually set foot in the kitchen. He was wearing a dark pair of jeans and a tight fitted t-shirt, he didn’t have any shoes or socks on and his dark hair was still wet from his morning shower. There was something strange about seeing your future alpha in such a casual setting, it felt wrong somehow and I didn’t like it.
“When I finish work I will be going straight home.” I replied, trying my best to keep some of the sarcasm out of my voice.
“Oh Sasha, why do you always have to be so sweet and innocent? You know it isn’t going to do you any good, don’t you?” Jasper replied, crossing the threshold of the kitchen and walking over to me.
“What are you talking about?” I asked.
Jasper came up behind me and placed his hands on hips as he pulled my body back against his. I could feel his erection pressing against me and his warm breath against my ear as he started to rub himself against me.
I shuddered in disgust but Jasper was so arrogant that if he felt it then he would probably think it was in desire. I couldn’t believe this approach ever worked for him. If he wasn’t the future alpha then I am pretty sure he would never get laid, because he had no idea how to talk to women.
“You’re an omega. Nobody expects you to remain pure and even if you were it wouldn’t make a difference. Your mate will probably reject you anyway.”
He said it in such a matter of fact way that I had to bite my lip to prevent the whimper from leaving my lips. I wasn’t completely naive, I knew what happened to omegas in this pack, but I always held out hope that my life would be different. That my mate would happily accept me despite my omega status, and maybe I would even be allowed to have a proper job in addition to my omega duties.
I was an i***t.
Even if I could find a job to take me so I could raise the money I would need to leave this pack, why would my mate ever accept me? What did I really have to offer him? I wasn’t smart or attractive and I certainly wasn’t strong. I was just a regular girl, the only thing I had going for me was my determination, and according to my mother that wasn’t a trait becoming of an omega like me.
“Maybe he will but that doesn’t mean that I would ever sleep with you.” I replied, anger and frustration burning through my system and causing tears to form in my eyes.
“Come on baby, I will make you feel good.” He purred before kissing my neck.
I didn’t want him but my body had other ideas. The feel of his fingers on me and his lips against my neck was stirring something inside of me that I usually only gave into when I was alone in my room. I knew that it was only because I hadn’t let anyone else touch me in this way, but that didn’t make me feel any better about it. Jasper was the biggest asshole in a pack of assholes and the last thing I wanted was him to ‘make me feel good’.
“Jasper, we shouldn't do this.” I whimpered.
“Lizzy.” Jasper shouted, jumping away from me as though he was disgusted by the very thought that anyone would have seen him touching me. Asshole. It wasn’t as though I pushed myself on him, I would have been more than happy for him to leave me alone.
“This isn’t what it looks like, we were only talking.” Jasper pleaded.
I had never heard Jasper plead with anyone before but Elizabeth looked completely oblivious to Jasper’s plight. She was too busy looking at the floor in front of her and shuffling her feet awkwardly. Jasper seemed conflicted, as though he wanted to go over to her but there was something holding him back.
I wonder if anyone else knew that Jasper was secretly in love with his omega adopted sister. It would have been a tasty bit of gossip if I had any close friends to share it with.
“Your dad wants an omega to run an errand for him. I was going to ask Sasha to do it.” She mumbled before backing out of the room, leaving me alone with Jasper once more. But at least Elizabeth had given me an escape route now.
Jasper was still watching the place where Elizabeth had just been standing with a sorrowful look in his eyes. Great, I didn’t want to talk to him anyway. I dried my hands on the towel by the sink, then slipped out of the room before he could regain his senses and try to seduce me again.
By the time that I knocked on the door to alpha Hartford’s office I had finally gotten over the shock of this morning's revelations. Hopefully there wouldn’t be any other strange occurrences today, I was more than ready to get back to my normal uneventful life. I had enough to worry about, I really didn’t need the hassle that came along with being too visible to an alpha.
“Oh Sarah, I’m guessing you are here to help me.”
“My Name’s Sasha.”
“Sorry. I need you to take these documents over to the Graves pack for their alpha to sign.”
I nodded my head and took the documents from him. It was going to take me most of the day to cycle to the pack and back again. But omega’s weren’t permitted to own cars or motorbikes and public transport didn’t travel between packs so I didn’t have any other choice. At least spending the day cycling in the forest was more enjoyable than washing pots and cleaning the house.
