Chapter Four

Nova Pov
“I’m not leaving Arlo,” I say as I step away again. I only kissed him to distract him enough to break his fixation on rage. I’ve seen Arlo blow up before, it is not good.
“Yes you are,” he deadpans back, no room for argument.
“Is that an order from my Alpha?” I request. My eyes narrow at Arlo.
His brows knit together in confusion, “of course not. I would never do that to you.”
“Then i am staying,” I tell him before turning away and dancing with Raven.
There is a good thirty seconds where I think I’ve got away with it before I am being lifted up. Arlo throws me over his shoulder for the second time today and storms out the barn with me.
“Arlo Jax Bates!” I shout furiously. That’s right, I used his full name in vein. “Put me down right now Arlo!”
He doesn’t respond or even flinch as I assault his back with punches. In fact he doesn’t put me down at all, he carries me over his shoulder all the way to the pack house.
“I want to go home Arlo!” I demand but again he ignores me.
He carries on through the pack house, past his parents.
My face flushed bright red, “hi Alpha and Luna. Your son is a lunatic.”
Unfortunately they just laugh at me as Arlo continues up the stairs. He finally reaches his room and slams his door behind us. He puts me down on my feet but encloses me against the door with his arms. His eyes are closed as he struggles to control his breathing. His face is so close to mine that his breaths are fanning my cheeks.
“Arlo,” I whisper out nervously. I have never seen him this worked up before.
‘Maybe he finally tripped and fell in love with us’ my wolf coos.
‘Don’t be ridiculous Margo’
Arlo looks up at me as his eyes open, they are purple.
“Bodhi?” I say softly. “Can you let Arlo take control back please?”
“Solo il tempo dirà il vero significato dell'anima gemella,” Bodhi whispers softly as he strokes my face.
“What does that mean?” I whisper back.
Bodhi smiles once more before closing his eyes, Arlo is back. He shakes his head as he steps back.
“Sorry Nova,” Arlo says sincerely. “I don’t know what happened.”
“It’s okay Arlo, i think Bodhi is getting stronger. Maybe you should tell your parents about it?” I query but the panic in his eyes tells me his answer.
“No, they can’t know about this Nova.” He starts to run his fingers through his hair.
“Alright,” I say and put my hands up. “I won’t say anything to them. I promise.”
He grabs my raised hand and pulls me into a hug. We decide to relax and watch a film for abit.

Arlo has to go and speak to Nick about the sparring so I head home. When I walk in the door my parents are sitting on the sofa in silence. Looking at me.
“Hey guys,” I greet suspiciously. “What’s going on?”
“Sit down sweetie,” my mother gestures to the arm chair.
I sit down and wait for them to spit it out.
“We found the perfect Alpha for you to be mated to,” my mother squels excitedly.
“What?” I blanch. This was unexpected, I thought I’d have longer to decide. “I’m not even eighteen yet, I can’t see if I find my mate.”
“You don’t have to worry about it sweetie,” my mother shakes her head. “If you mate someone else first then you will never know if you meet your mate.”
“I don’t want that,” I shout as I stand up. “Dad? Please.”
My father looks at me with sympathy, I know they are in a difficult situation and have money problems. They are making a mating agreement involving money.
“We’re just asking you to meet him Nova. The decision is yours.” My father says.
I sigh and close my eyes.
‘I don’t like this Nova. I want my goddess given mate’
‘I know Margo’
I open my eyes and look at my parents, “set up a meeting.” I grumble before going upstairs.

I read in my room for a couple of hours in an attempt to distract myself. I finally feel settled enough to sleep. I snuggle under my quilt and listen to the night wind softly blowing through the open window. I hear a small thump and look up to see Arlo.
“What are doing here?” I whisper but he doesn’t respond. He takes his shoes and T-shirt off before sliding into my bed with me.
“I couldn’t sleep,” he says as he looks at me. His body heat is overwhelming me. I want to tell him about the mating prospect but I can’t. He will be so angry. Plus I can’t let him influence my decision. I will never be with the only person I want. “Sleepover like the old days.” He smiles at me.
I don’t say anything as I close my eyes and allow his warmth to soothe me to sleep.

I wake up the next morning and Arlo is gone, his side of the bed cold. Did he actually come in here or was it a dream?
I lean over to his side and inhale. The smell of him still lingering, Rhubarb and Mint. I inhale once more before a throat clears from my doorway.
“Dad,” I say as I jump back to my own side.
He looks at me intensely for a few seconds. “I don’t want to know.” He mutters with his hands up and backs out my room. “I don’t want to know.”
I sigh as my cheeks are now blushed red with embarrassment.
‘I though that was pretty funny’ Margo chuckles at me. I roll my eyes in response.
“By the way,” my dad says popping his head back around the doorway. “I came to tell you that the Alpha with a proposal will be here this afternoon.”
“What?!” I jump out of bed now. “I can’t meet him this afternoon. Arlo is sparring with Nick for the king. I can’t miss it, he needs me dad.”
“Sorry Nova,” he shrugs helplessly. “It was the only time he could meet with you. Please just be nice. For me.” He smiles nervously before walking away.
Great. Now I have to tell Arlo.
I send him a text message.
Nova: Can you meet me in twenty?
Arlo: No can do. Training all day. I just stopped for a quick water break.
I chew my thumb before slamming my phone down in frustration and get ready. I have a quick shower and throw on some old jogging bottoms and a vest top. I slide my feet into my trainers before jogging downstairs. I grab a breakfast bar on my way through the kitchen. My parents watch me silently until I reach the front door.
“Be back here for twelve please,” my mothers says.
