The sounds was coming from behind the steel door, getting louder and louder. Eric slowly raised the wrench and smashed it hard against the door! Bang!!!!!! The vibrations from the clash of metal on metal made his hand numb and he could hardly hold the wrench.
Finally, something appeared from the shadows. It was a zombie! Eric stared fixedly at the creature as it approached. In terms of size, it was only about 1.6 meters in height. Eric had the wrench ready in his hand, ready to throw at the zombie's head the moment it got close.
As the zombie banged into the door, Eric finally saw it’s face in the bright light. It was a female zombie! And she was wearing his company’s uniform! Was she a former colleague?
The zombie’s hair was a mess, but he could tell it used to be straight. Wait! Wasn’t this Carmen White from the front desk? This... thing.
Eric racked his brain and recalled that she was only 21 years old, younger than him even. She was hired after the New Year and had only been there a few months.
She wasn’t the most beautiful, but she had a very curvy figure, with huge breasts and long legs. On top of that, she often wore short skirts to work. After entering the office each morning, the first thing many of the male workers did was to take a good look at Carmen and her wholesome features.
But now all Eric could see was her twisted face, red eyes and drooling lips.
“It’s not my old colleague, it’s a female zombie!” Eric kept reminding himself.
Her fingernails were scratching aimlessly at the stainless steel door. This was a fruitless effort, however, as this was one of the most secure doors in the whole city; not something that a person, or indeed a zombie, could move with their fingernails.
Eric began to calm down. He lowered the wrench, but kept a close eye on “Carmen White” to see what she could do with the security door.
Fifteen minutes passed. Perhaps zombies were not so intelligent, for it seemed that having found herself unable to get to the human on the other side of the door, the zombie had no better idea than to whine and leave a few faint marks on the door with her teeth.
Eric really didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, as he watched his former colleague’s ‘zombie self’ scratch at the door. ‘Carmen White’ was bored too. With an indecipherable, moaning sound, she finally turned reluctantly around and walked downstairs until she disappeared from sight.
What the f**k was going on here? The first zombie he encountered after the apocalypse was his former colleague! Eric stood speechless, scratching his head in disbelief.
But then his thoughts turned to another matter, as he heard a loud rumbling coming from his stomach. Right, now that he was sure he was safe, it was time to get back to the search for food and water. There was no way he would let himself starve to death!
Eric thought for a while. The water and packet of biscuits he had could last him one or two days at the most. He could not go downstairs so the canteen he usually ate in on the second floor was off limits. He decided to retreat to the safety of his office on the 35th floor. His encounter with the zombie had been quite frightening.
Eric turned and walked to the elevator. Just as he was about to press the button, he turned to look at the office area on this floor, which happened to be a financial investment company, only to spot a figure on the other side!
Oh my gosh! Eric was almost scared to death again. He immediately grasped his wrench, ready to throw himself into battle with the zombie!
The ‘man’ was banging feebly on the door, his lips moving. But Eric couldn’t hear the whine, only the banging. It seemed that the sound insulation of the glass door was strong.
A series of tough questions flashed through Eric’s mind. What to do now that there were also zombies on this floor? Did God want him to live or die? How many zombies were in this building? Was there no safe place left anywhere?
