Eric pondered this for a moment. “Personally, I think it’s too dangerous for us to rush in there with insufficient information. In this world, we should be pessimistic; we should always assume the worst. Of course, I think what you said is reasonable. If we could get more information about this settlement and this group of people, it wouldn’t be too late for us to make a decision.”
Eric’s judgment was the result of careful consideration. He had really grown up a lot since waking up in the new world. His ability and mentality had made him more than ready for the struggle to survive.
Andy was a little idealistic, but his ability to analyze and gather information was also strong. It was not unreasonable that the two of them had survived together survive to this day, and might continue to do so for some time.
If only I could get in touch with these people! Hostility can be disarmed through communication. This has been true for the whole of human existence.
“Andy, is there any way you can find these people on the Internet, maybe even contact them? Isn’t it safer to know what kind of people they are before we decide to join them or not?”
“OK, I’ll try. Hey, don’t watch over me. You won’t understand what I’m doing. Have the rice first; it’s getting cold!”
Although Andy said he wasn’t a good cook, Eric had to say his fried rice with ham was delicious! With only oil and salt, he had somehow made it taste delicious. Obviously, this guy had cooked this dish often.
“Well, Andy, if there were a doomsday restaurant specializing in fried rice, you could be the head chef! This is great!!”
“Very funny, Eric! But don’t laugh at me right now, you’re interrupting my work...”
Just then, Eric remembered that he didn’t know if anyone else had felt the same physical and mental benefit that he had after killing a zombie. It really felt as if he had taken drugs! He dared not talk to a stranger about this, but he felt he could ask Andy.
“Andy, did you feel your spirits were lifted when we killed the zombies and the dog?” Eric deliberately kept his wording vague. If Andy didn’t have the same kind of feeling, he wouldn’t understand no matter how detailed he was. He might also lie and pretend that he understood.
“No way! I was going to ask you that as well! I thought I was hallucinating! When we killed the zombie dog I felt a kind of power go into my eyes and I felt more energetic afterwards!” Andy immediately closed the laptop and looked up at Eric with excitement.
So it was true! Eric no longer doubted himself. He spoke openly about what he had experienced. It was a great relief for Andy too; he had worried that it had been some strange mind trick. He nodded in agreement at Eric’s descriptions.
They continued discussing this topic for a long time, but they still couldn’t explain why or how there would be this phenomenon. In any case, there were many things that science had been unable to explain previously; this was nothing new.
After returning to their own things for a while, it suddenly occurred to Eric that it would be great to have a telescope, or something that would improve his range of vision.
Thinking about this, he said to Andy, “You stay here. I’ll go outside and see if I can bring a telescope back. I have a feeling that it will be useful.”
Andy looked up, worried. “Eric... It’s almost 6 o’clock. It’ll be getting dark soon. Be careful...”
Eric hit him playfully on the head. “Sounds like you’re worried about me! Ha ha. But fortune favours the bold, my friend. How could I be afraid? I’ll be in the car most of the time and if I’m on foot, how could I run slower than those i***t zombies? I’ll be back soon. Wish me luck!"
When he went out Eric was well prepared, bringing with him the crossbow, truncheon and dagger. He was particularly fond of his new dagger. It was an expensive looking bit of gear, probably military-grade. Given that it was more lethal than his truncheon, he decided to carry this instead.
In a few minutes, he arrived at the entrance of the supermarket. Of course he couldn’t guarantee that they would have binoculars but it was worth a try.
After a careful scan of his surroundings, it appeared there were no zombies around. Safe! Eric pulled up to the door and walked into the small supermarket.
He found a small pair of plastic binoculars in the children’s toy aisle. He picked them up and looked out the window with them as a test. They worked well!
As he casually scanned the building across the street with his new toy, he let out a gasp. Oh, no! Through the binoculars he could see a girl standing on a wall on the third floor with a large group of zombies struggling to reach her!
