15: Piran Piran The door alert pinged, and Piran called up the sensor, sighed when he saw who it was. Couldn’t she leave him alone? Clearly not. Casey waltzed into his room as he came out of the code. He spun the chair so that he faced her. She scrunched up her nose. “Atmos controls not working?” Of course they were‌—‌and she knew it. Had access to all kinds of data‌—‌what he got from the dispenser, how much water he used, how long he slept. All got filed away, part of his record. And Macklyn wanted it checked regularly. Made out this was for Piran’s safety, but Piran reckoned the boss was a control freak, wanted to know everything about everything. Didn’t trust Piran, did he? Didn’t trust Casey either. Had something on her, trouble in her past, used that to force her to do his work.
