Aksana and I waved at the little boy, and he waved back as he clung to Margarita. As soon as we’re out of the orphanage, my mate sighs and leans on me.
“Do you want to talk about it?” I asked, hoping that she would talk to me and not bundle everything up.
“When we got to the pick up site, I could see the fear in their eyes. We had to assure them that we meant no harm, but their guard was still up. I don't blame them after everything they have been through. Once they were in the SUVs, I could see the hunger and exhaustion, but the fear never left. No one should have to feel like that. Looking over their shoulders every second to see who is coming to hurt them. I can’t imagine what they have gone through”, my beautiful mate says.
