A Blood Moon hung high in the sky. This was one night a year, where no wolf or lycan would dare shift, or they risk losing control of their beast to an uncontrollable blood lust. Children of our kind were rarely, if at all, born on the night of a Blood Moon.
Patrols had been tripled, as everyone was doing their patrols in human form. Robert and I were expecting our third child. We were incredibly excited. But, I had gone into labour earlier in the day. This one, unlike my first, was worse. It hurt a lot more, and we didn't know why. Robert had taken me to hospital earlier that day. We were still there, and I was getting worse by the second.
"What is going on, Doctor Brown? She isn't due for several weeks," Robert asked, stress evident in his voice, as he dabbed my forehead with a cold towel.
"She is running a high fever. Her waters broke, the baby is the right way around, but she isn't dilating like she should be. If she doesn't start dilating soon, we will have to perform a caesarean," Doctor Brown explained.
"Have you ever delivered a baby on a Blood Moon," he asked. I was soo tired, but I was glad Robert was asking the questions that needed to be asked.
"I never even heard of one of our kind having a baby on the night of a Blood Moon," she informed him.
"What does that mean for Violet and our baby?"
Doctor Brown shrugged. I was getting hotter, too hot.
"Can you open the window," I whimpered.
"Of course, my love," Robert replied, gently kissing my forehead, before heading to the window opposite my bed.
He pulled the blinds at the window, before opening the window, allowing the cool night breeze in. He came back to my side, sitting on the bed, pulling my head on to his lap. The Blood Moon moved higher, reaching its peak, which lined up with the window, causing a beam of red light to pour into the room. The moment the red moonlight hit my bump, the contractions began to hit me very quickly. Some kind of magical power seemed to speed up the process of labour. I screamed in pain, as contractions hit me.
"What's going on," Robert asked, worried.
"I have no idea. But, whatever the light of the moon is doing, it is helping her give birth to your pup. She is starting to dilate," Doctor Brown replied, as she examined me.
The pain was excruciating, because I was dilating far quicker than I should have been. Within a few moments, I was dilated enough to start pushing. Doctor Brown said, "Violet, you need to start pushing. You have dilated really quickly. If you experience any sharp pains or discomfort, tell me. Next contraction, I want you to push."
I nodded, gripping Robert's hands tightly, to ready myself. He smiled, placing a gentle kiss on my hand. Another contraction hit me, so I pushed as hard as I could.
"That's it baby, you can do this," whispered Robert.
Contraction subsided and I stopped pushing, as Doctor Brown smiled, "Good job, Violet. I have your baby's head. One more really big push."
I nodded, taking a deep breath. The next contraction hit, and I pushed. As I stopped pushing and the contraction subsided, my third child was born.
"Great job, your majesty. Let me check your baby quickly, and I will come back," She spoke softly, taking my child for their checks.
I cuddled in to Robert, as he whispered, "You have done a great job, Violet. Our third child."
Doctor Brown returned to us, carrying our baby in a blue blanket. We had a son. Looking at Doctor Brown, I could sense something was wrong. She almost seemed shocked.
"Congratulations your majesties, you have a healthy son...." she paused, almost like she couldn't believe her eyes.
She handed me, our son. I looked at her, and asked, "What is it? What is wrong?"
"He has a very red moon-shaped birthmark, just above his bottom. When I opened his eyes..." before she could finish, my son opened his eyes.
His completely red eyes. They glowed red in the light of the Blood Moon.
"What is wrong with his eyes," Robert asked. I could feel his concern for our newborn son.
"Honestly, I have no idea. He is healthy, but I would suggest we keep an exceptionally close eye on him, as he grows up, especially when it is a Blood Moon and even more after he shifts for the first time," Doctor Brown suggested to us.
"Robert, the main thing is he is healthy, whatever this is could wane with the setting of the Blood Moon," I added.
"I agree, but for now, I would suggest waiting until the Blood Moon sets before letting anyone see him. I will make sure that no hospital staff except me comes into this room. Try to feed him and get some rest," Doctor Brown said, as she began to clean everything up.
I looked down at my son, he was happily staring at the Blood Moon. Whatever the moon was doing to him, I will find out what it is and keep him safe.
"He is handsome like you, Robert," I smiled.
"Our little Prince Alexander Keegan Augustus is going to be very handsome. I am concerned about those eyes," Robert spoke, as his eyes wondered over our beautiful Alexander.
We eventually managed to get Alexander to latch on to my breast, so I could feed him. After he had his fill, Robert had cuddles, while I took a nap. The Blood Moon was still high in the sky when I fell asleep. A while later, Robert shook me gently awake, "Violet, baby, you have got to see this."
My eyes shot open, and I almost jumped out of bed. Dawn was breaking, and the Blood Moon was setting. Robert pointed at our son in his crib. His eyes were no longer glowing red. We watched as the red eyes seemed to fade away, to reveal breath- taking chocolate brown eyes. His eyes were brown, maybe his eyes only glow red when the Blood Moon is out. I will have to research this, try to find out what this means for our son. We immediately called Doctor Brown, who checked over our son again, and wrote in a journal, before handing it to me.
"Anything abnormal or unusual, write in this, then we will have a record of when things happen so we can prepare for them, to keep him safe," Doctor Brown explained, as I took it from her, thanking her as I did so.
The months went by, and nothing abnormal happened. He was by all means a happy and perfectly normal Lycan baby. His first birthday reached us, and that night there would be a Blood Moon. All day, he seemed faster, and even stronger than normal. We wrote it down in the journal, just in case it was an effect of the approaching Blood Moon. The moment the sun set and the moon rose into the sky, his eyes changed from the beautiful brown eyes he had everyday for the past year, to the glowing red eyes he had from the moment he was born to the moment the moon set. The Blood Moon affected him in some ways for now, but would it get worse? Doctor Brown was right to give us this journal, we needed to monitor everything about him and make sure he was okay.
Two and a half months before Alexander's first birthday, I gave birth to Prince Jayden Xavier Augustus was born. There was nothing unusual about him, no birth marks, no strange reactions to the moon. All year he was fine, nothing abnormal, but then his second birthday came and another Blood Moon had come. The exact same thing that happened on his first birthday, happened again. Six months after Alexander's second birthday, I gave birth to Prince Jaxon Dimitri Augustus. Jaxon was completely healthy and normal, no birth marks, no strange occurrences on his birthday.
Eljiah and Elisa loved all their little brothers. Elisa loved it when Alexander's eyes glowed red. She would say it reminded her of the red glow in a fire. She has a fascination with fire. I found her once with her book on fire. I put it out immediately, but there was no ignition source around. Only the pages within the covers of the book burnt and were on fire. It was certainly strange.
Elijah was just like his father, protective, strong, and fierce. He would truly make a great King one day.
Amelia, Felicity and I spent some time talking about who we suspected our children's mates would be. We all agreed that Alexander and Ivy had to be mates, because he clung to Amelia when she was pregnant with Ivy. He also would always play with Ivy over anyone else. Jayden clung to Amelia when she was pregnant with Morgan. Jayden actually helped Morgan learn to walk, which was very sweet and quite cute. They would do little dances together, and would copy each other. Hunter was very clingy towards Felicity, he would always be touching her bump and resting his head to listen. Felicity wouldn't tell us if she was having a boy or a girl, or how many she was having. Amelia and I suspected she was having a girl, and possibly a boy, going by how excited Charles was.
With a message of the dangers ahead from Selene, will we be able to save our son from the Blood Moon curse!!!
