The next morning, Minerva had to leave early to return to her people, but before she left, she spoke with Harper about the mission both her and I would have to go in. After everyone had breakfast, Harper met with me in Robert’s office. It was meant to be a school day for the children, so I had to speak with Amelia first about what the kids were meant to be doing. Quinn had agreed to stay with Amelia to help her with the children, who were not old enough for school and make sure the others did their school work. That way I could do this training with Harper, and Robert could come with me. I know he wanted to make sure it worked.
Harper arrived at Robert’s office, just as I finished speaking with Amelia about the school work that needed to be done. Myles had come with Harper too. Robert smiled at them, “Harper, Myles, what can we do for you?”
“I am going to come and help Harper today. I have enough gems to make more of the charm necklaces for the rest of your pack, but I showed the others that arrived last night to make them. I will periodically check on them to make sure they have been doing things properly,” Myles explained.
Harper looked at me and asked, “What is your beast called? I know you each give names to your beasts.”
“We don’t give names to them. When they first speak to us, that is when we first learn what their names are. Mine is Snow. That was her name when I was just a werewolf, and it is still her name now that she is a Lycan.” I shared the correct information and what my Lycan is called.
“Ah, right. So, when you shift, will I be talking to Snow or you?”
“Both of us, but say Snow, as she will respond or I will respond through her. Our minds are the same but she can be a bit more violent than me at the best of times.”
Harper nodded, “So, are we ready?”
“Yes, I do believe we are. Go outside, I am going to chuck some old clothes on so I can shift.”
Robert smiled, “I will make sure to grab some blankets on the way, for when you shift back.”
I nodded and we both went to go give the kids a quick kiss and hug. While the rest made their way down to the front of the palace, I quickly ran off to change into some old clothing. Before heading down to meet with the others.
“Right, so quick question, how far is that thing from the palace,” I asked.
“Our trackers estimate that it is about ten miles from here to the meadow,” Robert replied.
“ It should take me about thirty minutes to run there and the same length of time back. So, including the time it would take for Harper to gather what she needs to do for the next spell, we are looking at about one hour to an hour and a half, for the entire mission,” I supposed.
Robert nodded, “That would be about right.”
Harper smiled, “It should take me no longer than ten minutes to gather what I need.”
“That is good. Right, I have arranged, I guess, a bit of a race course, with Lycans all along the path down to the lake on our land, to the south. I suggest you collect soil from there, but just so we can make sure it works with just one hand touching Violet, while you gather with the other,” Robert informed us.
“I know the route you are on about,” I nodded.
“Should we get started,” Harper asked.
I nodded, “Oh, and when I shift, try not pull my fur out when you hold on, and when my beast tries to talk to you, you will hear her voice in your head. So, don’t panic, it is how they communicate.”
I kissed Robert, as Harper nodded. I stood away from everyone, and I shifted into Snow, allowing her to take control of our body. I had shifted into Snow so many times that my bones breaking and reforming, happened far more quickly and were now completely painless.
Snow walked up to Robert, and rubbed her head against him. Robert rubbed behind her ear, smiling as he did so. Snow turned her attention to Harper, and she linked their minds together so that Harper could hear what Snow said to her.
“Can you hear us, Harper,” Snow asked.
“I can hear you in my head. Do I need to speak like this, or will you be able to hear my thoughts,” Harper asked, completely stunned.
“You can speak normally, even a whisper, and we will hear you,” Snow replied.
Harper smiled, “Alright, thank you for telling me. Now, I will perform the spell on myself to make me invisible, and then the extension charm. Once done, I will touch Snow with one hand, and hopefully you will go invisible. If that works, I will be climbing on, and we will go for a run on the race course. King Robert set up.”
Everyone nodded. Snow did too. Harper took a few steps away, before performing the invisibility spell. She uttered words in a strange language, and as she finished speaking, she disappeared right before our eyes. Thanks to our immunity to magic, Snow and I were able to see Harper faintly. It was like an outline of a person and their features. She was hard to see but we could just about see her, which was going to be most helpful on this mission. She began speaking again in what I could only presume was the same language which we were all able to hear.
After she had finished, she walked towards Snow, and touching us with one hand, we then became invisible. I only knew this because Robert gasped, “Violet, Snow, it worked, you are invisible.”
Snow immediately laid down on the ground, to make it easier for Harper to climb on to our backs. Snow said, in Harper’s mind, “Climb on, I am lying down.”
Harper climbed on to our back, before Snow said, “Hold on tight.”
I opened a mindlink to Robert, “We will do the run, time us.”
“I will,” Robert nodded, as he replied in the mindlink.
“Now, what,” asked Harper.
“We do the run, but you have to be as quiet as you can, so whisper if you need to say something, we will hear you,” Snow replied, in Harper’s mind.
The moment Snow finished speaking, she bolted off down the race course that Robert had set up for us. It took us just shy of thirty minutes to reach the lake, it took about ten minutes for Harper to collect soil that she would need, before climbing back on to our back. The moment she was on my back, we sped back off towards the palace, which took us slightly more time.
Upon arriving back at the palace, I asked Robert, in our mindlink, “How did we do?”
“It took you one hour and five minutes,” Robert said, aloud, so everyone could hear.
“That isn’t bad. Should we go again, Queen Violet, Snow,” Harper asked.
“I can do it one more time, then I will need to rest so we can do the mission tonight,” Snow said, in Harper’s mind.
“Alright, one more time,” Harper whispered.
The moment she said that, Snow took off again. This time around it took a little longer, because Snow was getting tired. Upon our return, the spell had worn off, and Robert wrapped the blanket over Snow’s torso, so we could shift back into human form. Once back in human form, Robert helped me up to our room, so I could rest and be ready for tonight, which is what we agreed upon.
When night fell, I met with everyone outside the palace again. I gave each of my children kisses and cuddles, and as I did, Elisa begged, “Mummy, don’t go?”
“I have too, but I will be back in less than two hours, I promise,” I reassured her, as I hugged her tighter.
After Harper and I had finished saying our goodbyes, I shifted into Snow, while Harper began casting her spell. Once her spells were cast, she climbed on to our back. Snow turned and bolted towards the border; the patrols had been warned that we would be in the area. We dodged trees and fallen logs, straight to the border. Even as we reached it, Snow didn’t slow down. The border to the dark witches’ land was on top of a hill, so we were essentially looking down into a sort of valley. There was a thick forest of trees going all the way from the back garden of the palace to the meadow where they were constructing a monument. All we had to do was pass through those trees just past our border, and get on to the land of the meadow, without being seen. If that happened, the plan might just work.
Snow sped through the trees, she loved being able to run like that. Running with a purpose, with a task in mind. She had never been allowed on patrol, because she went straight from keeping her identity a secret to becoming the Queen of the Lycan pack, and Queen of all beasts. I guess for this mission, she felt like she had something to prove, because I had never ever seen her run so hard and fast in all my life.
We had just reached the edge of the woods, when we all saw the dark witches swarming around the monument. We could see it was still being constructed, but it looked near completion. It just made our mission that much more important. Snow decided to take things slow from here. She treaded lightly and as quietly as she could. We had made it about twenty feet from the tree line, when Harper whispered, as close as she could to our ear, “Here, is fine.”
“Okay, but be quick. There are more witches than I expected here, and something tells me that they are preparing a meeting or something,” Snow replied to Harper, in her mind.
Harper slipped off our back, and began to load her satchel with earth. I watched through Snow’s eyes, as all the witches gathered together, one dark witch stepped forward. I guess she was the dark witches’ leader, and she shouted out to her people, “Soon, we will change the world and when we do change, we will rule over two worlds, people will fear us and beg for mercy.”
Just then, another witch came up to her and whispered something that I was too far away to hear. But the leader screamed, “Protect the monument, those disgusting Lycans are sending people to destroy it.”
“We have been betrayed, Harper, on my back now. We have to get out of here, before we are trapped,” Snow growled, in Harper’s mind.
It caused her to jump, but she still managed to get the satchel over her shoulder, and get on our back without getting scared. The moment she was on our back, Snow said, “Hold on tight and stay low for me.”
With that, Snow charged back to the forest. Dark witches began to cast spells to try to find us. We were half way back to the border, and safety, when the invisibility spell wore off. Harper whispered, “Damn it, the spell wore off.”
She began to utter the strange words again. As we kept running, I mind-linked Robert, “Get the witches and as many Lycans as you can, we maybe coming in hot.”
“I will,” were the only words I got back.
“The spell isn’t working. How far away are we,” Harper whispered.
In the distance, Snow and I could see the border, and Robert was there with all the witches and some Lycan warriors. Snow spoke to Harper in her head, “You will be able to see the border, now.”
Just then, we were spotted by the dark witches. They began throwing fire balls at us that exploded upon impact with any surface. Snow dodged them incredibly well, until we were about ten feet from the border. A fireball hit just beneath us, upon exploding, sending us flying through the air. In mid air, Snow spun herself around, wrapped her paws around Harper, pulling her against our under belly, in an attempt to protect her. Snow crashed into a tree on our land. We crashed in such a way that the bones of our spine broke, but we had protected Harper. She was able to walk away with only a few mere bruises and cuts.
The moment we were on our land, the other witches and warlocks began casting spells that built a barrier around the border of our land, protecting us from dark magic, for awhile at least. Robert and Myles swarmed us. Myles checked over Harper, as Robert tried to comfort me as I screamed in pain as my bones attempted to break and reform into my human form.
“I am taking Violet to the hospital, Finn is in charge,” he shouted, as he lifted me into his arms, bridal style, trying his best to shield my naked body from male eyes.
“Harper, I am taking you to the hospital too. How much earth did you get,” Myles asked, as he carried her?
“Enough for three spells,” she whispered, weakly.
That was the last thing I recall, because everything went black.
